Terrible experience
Booked on day of travel for 11pm collection. Arrived on time (just) and no agent to meet us. Called both provided numbers at 11:03 & 11:06pm to be told by recorded message that the offices are closed.
Asked around and we knew to look for a yellow minibus which never turned up.
Waiting 20 minutes in case agent was dropping other clients off, tried calling again - no response. Used the online support service and they were unable to get through on the same numbers. Then advised to get another car (Over £600) or get a taxi. Struggled to get a taxi which then tried to rip us off...
To add insult to injury, the company "Centauro" has marked the booking as failed to show. They did not try to get in touch and now they are trying to make us pay for a service they failed to provide!
Absolute joke - avoid these companies!

We booked a vehicle for our holiday in Queensland, Australia through Argus Car Hire. Our holiday had to be rescheduled, which Argus obliged and did. However they rescheduled for the wrong dates and we received no email confirmation to validate the dates. When we went to pick up the vehicle, we were told our rescheduled booking was for some 4 weeks earlier and our reservation was classified as a no-show. Our car hire was $686, of which Argus returned $274, with no explanation as to why they would not return the remaining $412. I have given Argus 2 months to return all my money and have received no response. I will never use Argus again.

Made a genuine mistake with the return time and contacted support within 10 minutes of booking. Customer service was polite and did try to help, but the company policy required the booking to be cancelled and repriced, increasing the cost by £55. Cancelling would have incurred a £65 fee, leaving no practical option. Very disappointing policy.

I've used car hire booking sites previously and always found them ok. I recently booked a car using Argus. The company I used, Green Motion, had a rating of 7.5. After an awful experience, where I can only describe as being ripped of, I've investigated Green Motion further, their average rating on Trustpilot is 1.5 out of 5. It's Complaint after complaint of the same issue I had..I've tried to complain to Argus but, I'm going round in circles. The ratings used by Argus doesn't reflect the real world. I was charged €890 for a scratch that was at most €150-€200. I've hired cars every year, some times twice a year for the past 10 years and never had an experience like this.

It is easy to choose car, there is a lot of options. I hope everything keeps in the same way at the moment I receive the car.

The ace company said they can't put amex business cards for insurance, and wanted me to cancel and book again for a huge amount or pay additional 509 dollars for insurance
So I paid another 75 percent (509 dollars)

Close to fraud. Keep away. Payed up front online for out of hours pick-up. Arriving Spit Airport office to pick up the car. XL-car rental who is in companionship with Argus Car Hire demanded new payment for out of hours pick-up. Alas they charge the fee twice. Had orded a automatic car, got a car with manual gear shift. Tryed to sell me insurance even though I already had payed for this online. Took a long time at the desk even though I had uploaded image of both passport and driver licens.

Awful company, complete scam and the help desk are rude and sound like they stink. Won’t give a refund or sort your issues.

Easy process to cancel and rebook. Decent prices too.

Don't use Argus Car Hire!! Booked a car with them and 2 days later, when it was time to collect the car I got an email to say the booking was cancelled. Absolutely useless

I booked care hire for my husband. When he went to collect the care her was being forced to pay an additional £100 for the car hire because he had held his licence for 18 months. I did not see this on the t&cs before booking - all that was highlighted was the driver much be over 5 years old. We left the car in the end and did not receive a refund. I personally think the car hire was mis sold.

Misleading information over Insurance
When I collected the car from Goldcar, I was led to believe I needed to make a payment that I understood was simply a refundable fuel deposit. It later transpired that I had been charged for Goldcar's Premium Super Cover, despite already having insurance through Argus.
When I raised the issue with Argus, they simply relied on Goldcar's statement that I had agreed to the charges at the rental desk. They made no meaningful attempt to investigate whether I had been misled or whether I had knowingly purchased duplicate insurance.
As a customer, I expected far better support from the company through which I made the booking. Instead, I was left feeling that they were more interested in accepting Goldcar's version of events than protecting their own customer.
I would strongly advise anyone booking through Argus to fully understand exactly what their insurance covers and what may be offered again at the rental desk. My experience has left me feeling misled and unsupported.

I have used argus for years and trusted it. But recently it recommended Italy car hire, for my stay in Pisa. This car hire company are fraudsters and robbed me. I wouldn't have had the misfortune of dealing with them if it wasnt for Argus and my trust is lost.

Earlier review updated following response received.
Booking was easy, car was available and as described.
I had an issue with their supplier, Europcar where Europcar added on multiple optional items that I now know was not necessary, not explained, highlighted, discussed, sold or agreed. None of this was Argus’s issue or fault nor could they have know.
So Argus is fine. They did their bit. All good. Would use Argus again

The booking was straight forward. I needed to choose a company in the airport as I will have a mobility issue with a person in our group and needed the provider onsite.

We booked a compact SUV. Upon collection, we were told it was no longer available and received a downgrade to a subcompact model instead. This meant we not only lost space but also paid more for a smaller vehicle.. a lose-lose situation. The rental counter staff wouldn't address this, and email support maintained their position.
I had explicitly seen the smaller model on their website but chose not to book it specifically because of the extra space needed for three children and luggage. You expect the vehicle displayed in your reservation to be the one you get. Notably, dozens of the model we originally booked were parked on-site, yet staff claimed they were reserved for other customers.. despite our reservation for exactly that vehicle.
It feels like a bait-and-switch tactic to downgrade a reserved car simply on the basis that "it's not available."
To make matters worse, the replacement vehicle had three warning lights illuminated within the first hour: oil pressure, coolant level, and tire pressure. This raised serious concerns about the reliability of the vehicle and the maintenance standards of their fleet. We returned it and received another of the same model as replacement. Now, three days into our holiday, both the oil pressure and tire pressure warning lights are on again.

I have found the experience of researching prices, options and details through the Argus online process was more informative and easier than other sites. I have made my booking but yet to do the pick up/drop off of the vehicle. Thus far - well done to Argus.
