Bought $20K domain - Atom screwed up BIG
We spent $20,000 on a domain from Atom.com for a B2B SaaS - everything was fine for nearly a year, until one day, all of our customer tenants and our site stopped working completely.
Atom "forgot to renew our domain" and it completely lapsed, shutting down all of our services for 12 hours and continuing. They eventually remedied the issue after several hours when I contacted them, although the head of customer support and the CEO blatantly ignored the issue.
I would not trust these people for hosting your domain. I paid off the rest of our domain and transferred it away from Atom ASAP. Seriously, don't trust these guys.

In your case, the domain was hosted through an external registrar. While we have safeguards in place to ensure domains renew automatically, that process unfortunately failed this time. Although this does not excuse the issue, we want to assure you that we have already taken steps to prevent this from happening again.
With the recent launch of our ICANN-Accredited Registrar, Atom Registrar; all new domain purchases will now be hosted directly within our own registrar rather than through external providers.
After assisting more than 50,000 customers, instances like this have been extremely rare and we’ve already updated our internal procedures to further reduce the possibility of future issues.
