Would never use Avis again - dishonest and extortionate "damage" charge

Would never use Avis again. Paid £1,100 for 2 week car hire. On collection, we were overcharged us for an upgrade to an automatic (they told us it was £280 then charged our credit card nearly £400 - still waiting for an explanation from Avis). Barely used the car then, on return, the agent identified a very small white scuff mark (not a scratch or dent) on the bumper which we did not believe we had made but in any case suggested would likely rub off. I checked with the agent inside the Faro airport office and he agreed we would not be charged anything apart from 17 euros for petrol. I wish I had got this in writing but trusted Avis so didn't think to. Then once we were inside the terminal we received an email saying we were being charged over 400 Euros for this mark!! Totally unreasonable and dishonest behaviour. Disgusting from a large reputable company like Avis.

An awful experience

Rented a car through qeeq.com, selected a car and paid for it in April. Collected the car in Jul and to my surprise being charged 4x more as I was told I had only prepaid voucher from Qeeq, not a rental agreement ?? Never before I was charged different price at the desk that I have already paid while booking the car.
Very rude person on Customer Service who hanged up while I was trying to ask why the price is different (4x more). I hope the call was recorded. It was an awful experience.

Avis Hamburg Airport

Avis Hamburg Airport. Avoid at all cost. If you can get any other way of transport, definitely do so.
I took my family for a city break to Hamburg in June. We rented the car in Hamburg Airport. The man at the counter ensured me everything was O.K. with the car, apart from only one small scratch at the back ang gave me the contract to sign. It is a good walk from the office to the car park. When we reached the spot, the car looked a bit strange to us. It was on a Belgian reg(!), it looked more like somebody's private car, there were scratches and dents all around it, so we toook a few pictures. Inside the car was filthy and basically not prepared for rental. As we were under pressure and had to make to our destination on time, there was no time to get back to the office to discuss it. 5 days later the car was returned in exactly the same condition as collected on 19/06. By the time. I got back home, to my surprise, I received an e-mail from Avis with a detailed list and pictures of the damages that according to them, I caused. They even enclosed an accident report for me to fill in, which was an absurd. The total cost of the damages was €3750. It said in the e-mail that if I did not get back to them within 14 days, they would charge me for the damages caused.
I replied to their e-mail the same evening and the following morning. I was also sending e-mails every few days as I was aware the deadline for being charged was approaching. After 12 days I got a reply from a customer service agent Angelo saying I should have not been charged for the damage of the boot(!) so they would credit me for it. Nothing mentioned about the rest of the charges that were unlawfully assigned to me. In the last 3 weeks I have sent numerous e-mails to the customer service and damages department. There has been no response. Well, there has been one. Today I received my credit card statement and they have unlawfully taken the total cost of the damages that somebody else had caused and got away with them. I have been scammed by Avis Germany, which is not so 'richtig' as everyone may think. They do not seem to follow the rule 'Ordnung muss sein' any longer.

Stay clear of AVIS

I think this must be the 12th attempt to speak to someone at Avis to cancel a reserved car. After 35 minutes I reached a person who continued to talk over me and therefore did not understand what I was saying. This is a truely dreadful service. Am still trying to reach someone 'normal' who will hopefully be able to cancel the car that was reserved for me. Even that initial call was very strange. The woman sounded really drunk.

AVIS Germany is literally a scam

I never though that a "reputable" company like AVIS would scam me like they did. I rented a car in Munich for 5 days, agreed rental price was in total 300 EUR. A few days after returning the car, I saw in me bank balance that they had charged me 45 euros. Since then I am complaining and they give no answers, I called them on the phone and they literally said " I can't help you" and they hung up.

Additionally, 4 weeks after the rental they tried to charge me 600 euros, with no explanantion. After sending various emails and calling, they then said it was for an item from the car was missing (this was not true). Luckily I didn't have enough balance in the bank. It took me another 5 calls and 10 e-mails, 2/3 hours of my life, for them to remove the charge of 600 euros. I am still waiting for the other 45.

Please don't ever use this rental company, once they have your card details, you are doomed, they will take money from yout account without explanations. I am sorry for all the customers that don't check their bank balance, AVIS most likely stole a lot of money fromm them. Even if you realize, you will expand some about 10 hours of your time to potentially recover your own money (maybe not even).

🚨 Beware of renting with Avis! 🚨

⚠️ A Cautionary Tale: My Experience with Avis Car Rental ⚠️

As a seasoned traveler, I've had my fair share of car rental experiences, spanning a range of companies and countries. Today, I find myself compelled to share my recent encounter with Avis Car Rental, not out of spite, but in the hope that my experience might serve as a cautionary tale for others.

The Rental Agreement: A Promising Start

It all began with what seemed like a straightforward rental agreement for a vehicle in Mossel Bay, South Africa, under the reference number 829547294. Opting for peace of mind, I chose the Super Cover insurance option, explicitly designed to reduce any excess for damages or theft to zero. This decision was made in good faith, based on clear terms provided at the time of booking.

The Issue: Unwarranted Charges

Upon concluding my rental period, I was surprised to find charges for tyre/wheel damage levied against my account. This was puzzling, given the Super Cover insurance was supposed to cover such incidents. I initiated contact with Avis Customer Service to resolve what I assumed was a simple oversight.

The Response: A Cycle of Frustration

What followed was a prolonged cycle of communications with Avis, characterized by fragmented responses, repeated apologies for inconvenience, and a striking failure to address the core issue at hand. Despite numerous attempts to clarify the situation, the resolution offered by Avis remained elusive.

The Result: A Breakdown in Trust

The lack of a satisfactory response, coupled with the apparent disorganization within the Avis team, led to a significant breakdown in trust. This experience left me with no choice but to instruct my bank to initiate a chargeback for the disputed amount, a decision I did not take lightly.

The Lesson: The Importance of Transparency and Accountability

This ordeal has underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in the car rental industry. Customers enter into agreements based on trust—that terms will be honored, that issues will be addressed fairly, and that service will be provided with integrity. When these expectations are not met, it not only damages the reputation of the company involved but also erodes the trust within the industry as a whole.

For Avis and the Industry

To Avis Car Rental and the broader car rental industry, I urge you to take these experiences to heart. Use them as an opportunity to review your processes, improve your customer service, and, most importantly, uphold the terms of your agreements. It is only through such actions that you can hope to rebuild trust and ensure that customers, like myself, do not have to resort to public forums to seek resolution.

To fellow travelers, I share this story not to deter you from using Avis or any other car rental service but to remind you of the importance of vigilance. Understand your rights, scrutinize your rental agreements, and don’t hesitate to speak up if you feel those rights are being infringed upon.

In a world where the customer experience is paramount, let’s hold companies accountable for the services they promise to deliver.

Fine print change your budget

I am disappointed as I specifically said
that I did not need more personal or luggage insurance since I already
have a policy for that. However, on the final invoice I have $118.32, be careful with the fine print in the contract, they will include all the unnecessary services in the final invoice and the charge will be much higher than the original quote.

AVIS

AVIS, a glowing testament to an organization driven by motivation and passion, truly solidified their excellent reputation during a recent encounter at the Dusseldorf Airport. The iconic experience delivered by the AVIS team on the benchmark date of 26th December 2023, resonated the true spirit of their unwavering commitment to service.
Specifically, the dynamic duo of Susanne and Michaela deserve a special mention. AVIS, and indeed Düsseldorf Airport, shines brighter with such skilled and passionate individuals on board. Hats off to them for making our Christmas travel such a delightful and hassle-free experience. Our CEO was truly impressed and is looking forward to many more such experiences. Dishonest company

Dishonest company. The depot in Munich entered my return date wrong (17 days late) and overcharge me EUR 1727.26. I have spent the last 4 months trying to receive a refund for such simple human error. Every time I call the customer service say "we have people working on your case and you should hear from them in the next day". It's been 4 months.

Scammers

The company is a complete scam. Please avoid.
Car rental we had with Avis earlier this month in Bratislava, Slovakia from August 10th - August 18th.
On return of the car on August 18th, the Avis employee (Martin R) who inspected the car pointed a small mark out, measured it (it was 1 cm long and 3 mm wide scratch) and said that as it was very small we would get our deposit back in full, so for this reason we signed the document on his tablet.
We have now been informed that this needed repair and the cost was €290, which was why our deposit was not returned in full.
This is totally unacceptable!
Firstly, when the Avis employee (Martin K) took us round the car on pick up (August 10th) to show us any existing marks, he did not open the boot, so we would not have seen this.
Secondly, we were told on collection that the size of this scratch found was below any limit for dispute (as per the photo and as per avis.sk website which says 2cm, screen snip below)
Thirdly, the photos provided quite clearly show that this is something that has already been 'repaired'/painted over, as a scratch would not be of a darker colour than the paintwork.
Fourthly, IF this WAS repaired for such a small scratch, €290 is unacceptable and far far higher than this would cost in reality. For just painting over it (as the photos show) this would cost no more than €5!!!!!!! Please people avoid at all cost as you will be also scammed.

Avis Slovakia review

Avis Slovakia review

- deceiving description and opening hours
- they are NOT in the terminal
- you can't collect, not even return car outside opening hours
- if you have early/late flight, you have to drive to the city centre and pay extra fee and then take a taxi, 10km journey to the airport
- hidden fees
- their website says they will put a hold on your credit card, but in fact they will charge you 1500€ instead.
- if you object, they will tell you to go somewhere else and also asure you that you will not get a refund for the resevation you paid for
- when making the booking, I read thoroughly terms & conds of this specific location, but when in Bratislava, they will make you sign something else - on a smartphone with a tiny display, so you don't know what you are signing

- look at their 5star reviews - most of them are not genuine - left by one of their employees.
- one person left all of the 5start reviews several times across all of their accounts

- their customer service is non-existent
- I could not get a reply on their chat for more than 2 hours during business hours

They will scam you!
There are some very tiny scratches, hardly visible to anyone, that they charge you for. and they charge every new customer all over for the same scratches, that you did not notice. Which means, they can easily charge 10k+ on scratches on a single economic/small car, that cost some 15k as a brand new. This is what I call business. Imagine how much is a scratch on a luxury car. Don't get scammed, use any other company.

Btw, did you ever hear, that customer has to go to a car wash, to have the car deep cleaned before the return? if not, get used to it, cos that's avis Slovakia. Otherwise they charge you extra 80€ and will email you days later that they kept 500€ out of your €1500 deposit, as they discovered new scratches "under the dirt"

Absolute scam! Avoid at all costs

There is no need to go into details, nobody reads those. What you need to know is to stay away from Avis Germany at all costs! Use public transport, or even walk to your destination if you have to. Avis will add incredibly ridiculous and unexplainable charges to your contract without your consent and even informing you which will triple your invoice! Unexplainable is literal because they do not even bother to explain. I have been looking at that invoice for a week (and I rent cars all the time - monthly basis, in multiple countries) Their default reaction is "you signed to contract!" There is no customer service, no appeal process. It's somehow legal scam and they just get away with it. My understanding reading other reviews is Avis do not make money from renting cars, their source of income is tricking customers into signing contracts which will make them charge whatever they want with no one stopping them... Do you really think I would have signed that contract if you had told me that my invoice would be three times higher than what I paid at rentalcars.com?? Like does anyone at Avis seriously think that?

Our car broke down in Affi Italy

Our car broke down in Affi Italy. We called the 24/7 line for service. Around 12 they informed us that their colleague will be there 3-4 hours (which is understandable considering you’re in another country. Around 4 I called again and informed us that their colleague is almost there. Around 5:30 I called once again and they informed us to the colleague will not make it, we should get another car rental(6pm all car rentals closed) and they would provide us with a hotel reservation. Waited around 8 pm and still got nothing. It wasn’t until 9pm that they informed us that the Italy Avis 24/7 service breakdown will pick up the case because they cannot help us. Not only did they waste 9 hours that could’ve been use to find an alternate solution but they gave me false information that someone will pick us up, provide a reservation for our hotel and calling us back with information about getting us another replacement. Get yourself a lawyer because it’s a repetitive reputation of false information.

Abzocke bei AVIS Südafrika

Für deutsche Touristen, die Südafrika mit dem Auto planen.....

Rip-Off at AVIS SA
I hired with avis airport Port Elisabeth, I did inspection and there were no dents and I did this inspection in their parking lot on my own in the late evening.
No avis inspector was on site but when I returned the vehicle at captown the inspector went in directly to the back of the vehicle on noted a dent that one wouldn't even see unless you focus on that area and I picked up the car in the night. I let them know that I hadn't bumped the car anywhere to my suprise I got invoice of 386 € without a breakdown of what was done to the vehicle.
I am sure , that no repair have been done and the next client has to pay for the same dent.

Unbedingt das Auto vor Übernahme mit einem AVIS Mitarbeiter auf Schäden kontrollieren!!!!!
