AVIS means Thieves
This is not only the worst company I have ever used but they are THIEVES. I recommend all the clients that used their credit cards to check them. I rent a car in Athens during the months of April and May. I checked my bank account few days ago and they charged a much higher rate. I couldn't believe it. Although I contact them few times not answer at all. They said they will contact me but they never did. I sent an email but no answer.
I am sure that this is a tactic they follow with the majority of clients. So never again with these thieves!!

It was an ok experience
It was an ok experience. I can't say it was very pleasant but at least they were professional. There was a bit of friction about a 4 x 4 car we wanted. After a bit of friction they found a solution but the first day of our vacation was a full of anxiety until the issue was settled.
exceptional service at Rhodes airport
We rented a car at Rhodes international airport and was greeted by Rafeal who spoke very good English and made the collection very easy we were given an upgrade and were delighted that we had been given a BMW! As we wanted to travel around the island.
Unfortunately after the second day of travel a warning light came up on dash board so we decided to return the vehicle to Rafeal . He couldn’t of been more helpful he quickly arranged a replacement vehicle so we could continue our holiday and assured us that if the bmw was fixed he would arrange to have it delivered to our hotel.
He telephoned later in the week to say they had another car a Volkswagen Passat if we would prefer it to the one we had been given and would deliver to the hotel, we were very happy with the car he had sourced when we returned the BMW so decided to keep it for the remainder of the holiday. We all felt that Rafeal gave us all exceptional service and is an asset to the Avis company big thank you Rafeal x
I will never rent a car from them again
I rented a car from the AVIS branch in Athens city centre on Saturday the 12th of August and I returned it on the 14th of August in Athens airport at 6am.
To cover myself for any eventuality I had taken the full insurance pack as recommended by AVIS
To my surprise, when I returned to the UK I was informed by my bank that AVIS blocked the amount of £10792,38 from my bank account, almost my entire savings!!
Needless to say, this caused me huge inconvenience, embarrassment and financial lose as I could not honour my commitments and I was charged with penalties for every direct debit that couldn't be paid.
I called AVIS and, to add to my frustration, the very polite lady that answered the call asked me to send my complaint by email to their customer service department.
I did send the email and received a standard reply saying that they will look into my problem and come back to me. As I didn’t receive anything a couple of days later I called again and I was passed from pillar to post. Several very expensive phone calls later I was informed that their bank (that was located abroad?) blocked my money by mistake and they will sort out the mistake ASAP.
Their ASAP was 4 days later when my money was freed however, by that time I obtained even more financial penalties totalling over £500 without counting for the cost of the calls to Greece from the UK.
Naturally I emailed them asking how will they cover the damage they caused to me and they didn’t even have the decency to send even a reply to me.
I will never rent a car from them again.
NO CAR
I HAD MADE A RESERVATION FOR MYKONOS ISLAND IN AUGUST 2016 FOR A CAR FOR 4 PERSONS AND WHEN I ARIVED THERE WAS NO CAR!!!.
THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL BRING MY CAR TO MY HOTEL AFTER 4 HOURS...
