Frustrating and Poorly Managed…
Frustrating and Poorly Managed Experience – Tuesday, 12th August
Our experience with City Tour Barcelona was disappointing from the very beginning. Within just 10 minutes of boarding, the bus broke down at a junction, performing multiple emergency stops as the engine repeatedly overheated and the vehicle began rolling backwards. We were eventually transferred to another passing City Tour bus—but it too had to stop to collect passengers from yet another broken-down bus.
We immediately contacted customer service to request a ticket cancellation, but were told we had to submit a complaint via email and wait up to two days for a response. With no alternative offered, we had no choice but to continue the journey.
Unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there. Throughout the day, several audio guide points didn’t work, and in one seat the entire audio unit was missing. I switched seats four times and still couldn’t find a working one. On top of that, multiple seat belts wouldn’t pull across properly, and the condition of the bus overall was outdated and poorly maintained.
Staff on board admitted these weren’t isolated issues and even encouraged us to submit a complaint, noting that the company had ongoing problems. To make matters worse, our planned stop at Avenida Diagonal—clearly listed on the route map and shown on the digital display—was skipped without warning. When we asked, staff informed us it had been removed from the route, though no updates had been made to reflect this.
Despite all of these issues—including safety concerns and poor service—we were told we were not eligible for a refund because we completed the journey and “no one else had complained.”
When we stopped at Sagrada Família, I spoke with other families who were considering joining the tour. After hearing our experience, they decided to go with another (better-known) tour company. They thanked us for the honest feedback—and it’s a reminder that word of mouth can have real impact. While we may not get our money back, I hope this review helps others avoid making the same mistake.
I would not recommend City Tour Barcelona and it ruined our last day of our holiday.
Buses don’t stop at designated bus…
Buses don’t stop at designated bus stops. Waste of time and money. We spent most of our day waiting on the bus to just pass us by. I would not recommend this bus tour.
An over priced waste of time.
An over priced waste of time.
Not enough buses, the equipment often didn't work, the actual commentary was realy superficial & inane. As well, the inside stunk of diesel fumes & the driver kept braking hard, not great when you're descending the stairs.
Avoid this tour at all costs.
Terrible
Terrible! I've done several of these type of hop on hop off buses around Europe and this is the worst by far! Very long waits at stops:10 min at many. Repetitive descriptions and many missed descriptions. Most with very little information.
Awful experience- it advertises hop on…
Awful experience- it advertises hop on hop off, however if you do hop off there’s no guarantee you can get back on another bus - oversold tickets, waiting for hours to get back on- not wanting to gets off for fear of being stranded.
Guides on bus unhelpful- they do not let you know when attractions are closed. Would never do this again.
Over sell tickets - not enough buses
Over sell tickets and don’t supply enough buses to cover so huge queues.
They say “hop on and off” I don’t think so! Not having queued for 45 minutes with no shade.
Staff are good and the tour is nice.
But we have to stress out and feel frustrated easting our valuable time and having paid 33 euros per person to stand in a totally unorganised queue!
Managers sort out your ticket sales and supply the correct amount of buses fir the service 😡
Don't use this company
Was sold 2 tickets (€33 per adult) went to world trading centre in Barcelona & waited over an hour for bus in 30 degrees temperature. When we complained about not enough buses we were told to go back to cruise port for refund. Of course they were long gone when we got back. We never used the tickets, had a baby of 1 year with us so had to buy more ticket from Barcelona BusTuristic to get us around. The guy wouldn't sell tickets to new customers & we're directing them to BusTuristic tours. Lots of other customers who bought tickets were walking away too. We were warned about puck pockets but not this company. Highly recommend BusTuristic.
Excellent tour guides

Outstanding service- you get to see everything with them. I used them a few years ago when it was my first trip to Barcelona- now I know Barcelona like the back of my hand.
on line ticket rip off
Went to Barcelona for a weekend and booked tickets on line for a two day tour. The barcode never came through so was left with no tickets after paying for them. Went to the office and they said that it wasn't through them even though the web page said it was. Have e-mailed them three times to get our money back as we had to purchase new tickets, no response. DO NOT BOOK TICKETS ON LINE IT IS A RIP OFF!
Verry happy with Barcelona City Tours

Thanks,

BARCELONA CITY TOUR/ SAVING MONEY IN BARCELONA
I RECENTLY RETURNED FROM BARCELONA.TIPS ON SAVING MONEY. TAKE CITY BUS NUMBER 46 FROM AIRPORT TO CITY CENTER 2.20 EURO(TAXI COST ABOUT 50 EURO). AERO BUS FROM AIRPORT COST ABOUT 9.20 EUROS. BUY T10 PASS(FOR 10 TRIPS) OR 2 DAY PASS. YOU CAN USE IT TO ACCESS SUBWAY,PUBLIC BUS AND OTHER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. LOTS OF RESTAURANTS IN LOCAL AREAS - GOOD FOOD FOR CHEAPS. DO NOT SPEND AT TOURIST SITE LAS RAMBLAS. TOO EXPENSIVE AND NOT WORTH IT. HOP ON HOP OFF BUS TOUR IS GOOD AND INFORMATIVE IF U ARE SPENDING A FEW DAYS . NOT MUCH TO SEE IN CITY UNLESS U LIKE ARCHITECTURE AND MUSEUMS. LOTS OF PICK POCKETS IN TOURIST AREAS. PUT YOUR MONEY IN YOUR SOCKS. IF YOU DRINK, BUY YOUR BEERS IN SUPERMARKET DIRT CHEAP . 1 BEER IN HOTEL IS 8 EUROS. A 6 PACK IN SUPERMARKET IS 7 EUROS. YOU CAN EVEN HAVE WINES IN SUPERMARKET. DO NOT TAKE THE EXPENSIVE TOURS ADVERTISED ON VIATOR AND OTHER MONEY-HUNGRY SITES. YOU CAN SEE THE CITY FOR PENNIES USING SUBWAY AND HAVING A PLAN OF SITES TO SEE. SUBWAY GOES EVERYWHERE IN BARCELONA - SO WHY NOT USE IT?
I loved it!!!
I loved it, did the two lines and knew the city well. Staff were very friendly. Lots of languages to choose from. I could recommend it.

Poor customer service on Barcelona city tours
We purchased our city bus tickets on board after being reassured we could use the bus all day including the last tour at 8pm.
Not so..
We intended to use our ticket for the day tour and the 8 pm tour with the intention of taking evening photos.
We arrived caught the bus before 8pm only to be told at the next stop at 8.15pm the tour had now finished.
We complained in person and via E-mail to city tours with no satisfactory outcome.
In fact both verbal and E-mail customer services were extremely poor.
We will be using the other bus company Barcelona touristic tours when we return. Turquoise and white bus.
it's cheaper and offers no doubt better customer service.
A BIG rip off scheme
My wife and I bought our tickets online the day before our scheduled bus tour. On the day of travel, we got on the bus, were given the tickets and we left from near our hotel. 15 minutes into the ride the guide tells us that the tickets we purchased cannot be accepted because of some dispute they are having with their agent and gives us 2 choices, get off the bus or repay the fee....Now I'm not sure who is in charge of customer care for that company, but they certainly do not know how to take care of their customers!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a great excursion
Alexandra was a fantastic guide. She had an outstanding knowledge of the Barcelona facts and knew how to pass it on to us beautifully. I would recommend her and the tour company to others.

Full day tour well worth the time.
We were in Barcelona for a few days in October prior to departing for a Mediterranean Cruise. There were certain hi-lights we did not want to miss out on, LaFamilia Sagrada, Parc Gruell, Gothic Quarter, Montjuic - this tour captured them all. Our guide was awesome - he was as enthusiatic as he was informative. There was a bit of walking on the uneven streets so I would definitely recommend appropriate shoes. Barcelona was beautiful - would definitely recommend Barcelona City Tours.
Our tour was excellent!
The tour was easy to book, the bus was easy to find and it was very clean and comfortable. Our guide was outstanding!! I highly recommend that you book a tour with Barcelona City Tours.
