Discrimination experience at Berlin Airport

Horrible experience at Berlin Airport. I had notified airline prior that I would need assistance with my bags to alight flight because I was pregnant and I was abused by airport staff at the gate who refused to help me and told me ‘I shouldn’t travel when I am pregnant then’. Horrible and senseless display of abuse and discrimination.

A complete shambles

A complete shambles - 3 hours waiting in queue at security on arrival. At one point only one security person checking documents. This was even though a flight had arrived from Doha and documentation was needed to be Checked from each passenger. Absolutely no interest in us as passengers . A really poor arrival experience and for a country that portrays itself as super efficient - it really isn’t !

Utter chaos.

Utter chaos.
We spent 3.5hrs queuing to get through passport control as they only had 1 person on the desk. We were coming from the UK so it shouldn’t have been that tricky but the flight before us was from Doha and the paperwork slowed everything down. Why did they not prepare for this !?!?
No apology, no water handed out and no action from staff milling around nearby.
I thought Germany prided itself on efficiency, having spent the weekend there I have a very different view

Just like all the other reviews passport control is unacceptable too slow and not efficient
It maybe worth considering arriving in another airport in Germany and transferring by train could be quicker!!!!!

Long queue at security- xray machines breaking down frequently- security staff attitude terrible - really didn’t give a shit about passengers desperately trying to make flights on time - disorganised and poorly managed - then at the gate staff checking boarding passes and typing details into an old laptop - just slow slow slow! Will avoid in future

We had to wait around 45 minutes in the security queue on a Monday evening. The process was very slow and stressful. I also noticed that belongings were placed several minutes away from where passengers stood, which felt unsafe because items could have been taken without supervision. Staff members were not helpful and the overall experience was disappointing compared to other airports I’ve traveled through. I recommend arriving at least 2 hours before your flight to allow enough time for security.

World's worst security check

Unfortunately the only airport in Berlin. Every time security checks are mental. Been in airports all over the world in all continents and security checks at BER are the slowest and senseless I ever experienced. Rude staff managed to make my experience slow even if with the booked slot I was the first person in line. Today's experience included the woman at the desk proceeding to take all the stuff out of my backpack looking for a power bank that was on the front pocket instead of asking where it was. It took me a lot of time to repack properly. BER staff, this is not about safety: either you think you are the only safe airport in the world or you are doing something wrong; get a lean check process like every other airport on earth.

Airport looks modern and big

Airport looks modern and big, but my experiance was not so smooth. security took very long time and the sings to the gates were confusing.

My flight was delayed becouse the baggage system had some issues, and it was not clear when we would get our luggage. staff were polite, but not very helpfull when I asked for information. food options are ok, but prices are high. in general, the airport works, but the organization still needs improvment.

What a disappointment!

When we last visited Berlin, we were told that they were building a new "state of the art" airport beffiting a cosmopolitan Berlin. What a disapointment!

Our aircraft disembarked with stairs instead of a bridge. No one helped elderly passengers lugging their carryons with great difficulty.
There were only 2 immigration officers attending thousands of travellers for the 2025 Berlin Marathon weekend. Given the popularity of the Berlin Marathon, the influx of passengers was entirely predictable.
An escalator to descend from Immigration to baggage pickup was not working.
I used a toilet and it was overflowing.

What a shambles!

What a shambles! Not enough and very slow staff leading to silly queues - have never experienced anything like it.
Make sure you arrive in plenty of time and when you have passed through the bag checks don't be lulled into a false sense of security ... passport control is even more of a fiasco.
Good luck - you'll need it!

Worst Security Experience Ever - Beware

If I could have given this no stars I would have. The worst security experience of my entire life. Innefficient, rude staff, slow, lacking any sort of customer relation skills.

We arrived at the airport at 6pm for a 9.05pm flight. Bag checked no probs. Headed off round to security. The queues were large and moving extremely slowly. When we go past the first gate to the queues for the 8 or so security lanes, it was clear that it was going to be a long and arduous experience. Firstly the member of staff marshalling the queue was rude, aggressive and I actually witnessed her handling passengers at various times! When we go to the mid point where they send you to the gates on the left (5-8) or the gates on the right (1-4), we were shepherded into the queue on the right just as they closed 1 or 2 of the gates and only left No2 open. From that point I’d estimate that it took 1.5 to 1.75hrs to get to the security gate. In the meantime people when extremely stressed about their flights. The staff were completely oblivious to their plight to the point they were down right rude. Stating that it was not there problem. Where people were probably at real risk of missing their flight, despite arriving in plenty of time, they still did nothing to alleviate their stress. Some passengers tried to get further up the queue and this caused issues with other passengers. In the meantime there were 3 gates open on the left side. Quicker, but still very slow. At one point one of the staff stated “when you are in Berlin, show respect for Berlin” to waiting passengers! When she was quizzed about why 3 lanes were open on the left and only one on the right, she contacted the police! Astonishingly about 1.5hrs into the wait on the right lanes, which I should add had about 12-15 staff at it, they opened another lane on the left side, doing nothing for the passengers waiting at the right sided gates. We got through just before 8pm, about an hour before our flight. That’s having arrived at the airport the recommended 3 hours before our flight. Even this was stressful, but there were plenty of passengers who I am sure would have missed their flights.
I was in Berlin last year also and had a similar, although not quite as bad experience. Shocking for a modern airport in the capital city of a country renowned for efficiency. Flown hundred of places and this must rank the worst ever security experience, and will certainly be a factor in any decision for a future visit. Beware. This was a Monday night, relatively quiet in the airport and therefore no excuse for the chaos and stress caused to passengers.

Worst queues I can remember - give yourself plenty of time

Loads of scanners for security, but they don't open them. Worst queue I can remember and then the guard opened nearly every bag. They also don't have enough trays. Worst security service I can remember. It then gets worse as you queue in front of 20 or so passport check kiosks, of which only four are open. This was at a peak time that was totally predictable. We arrived two hours before our flight and that ended up cutting it fine.

I support the other reviews I have seen…

I support the other reviews I have seen on here. Passport control for non-EU (that includes UK) was terrible. I had a 2 hour delay getting through. Then when I went to collect my luggage, the board was no longer displaying my flight so I tried to ask ask someone behind the baggage issue desk and they were unbelievably rude. They finally spat out my carousel number when they finally agreed to look it up (which actually took 2 second literally). I have never known such an unwelcoming airport.
