I had little knowledge of hernia operations prior to October 2020, but when I checked into it, I was pretty unsettled to find that the only treatment routinely offered in the UK involved use of a plastic mesh. I didn’t want to be carrying plastic in my body forever and that concern was compounded Victoria Derbyshire’s investigation on the BBC, which revealed a much higher incidence of long-term pain related complications, than was suggested by the official stats. Overall, I was pretty despondent about the lack of options available for this condition.
So, without much hope, I started searching online to learn more about the condition and the management of it, which is how I stumbled across the BioHernia website and read about its work in relation to mesh-free repair. I watched an interview with Nahom and felt an immediate sense of relief that there was an alternative to mesh after all.

From the very start, BioHernia provided a thoroughly professional and responsive service and made all of the arrangements for my trip to Germany. BioHernia’s excellent work was matched by the equally excellent medical team headed by Dr Andreas Koch. From start to finish, the whole experience has been a huge success.

I am sure that each patient’s experience is unique and so my next comment might not apply equally to others, but for me, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there was no pain whatsoever as I recovered from the operation. Inevitably there was some sensitivity around the site of the incision, but there was absolutely no discomfort within my body at any stage. I am a bit of a coward where pain is concerned and the pain free experience I’ve had, was truly appreciated.

Overall, I am extremely pleased I found BioHernia and Dr Andreas Koch and I have absolutely no reservations at all about recommending them and their work to anyone in need. It’s been a truly exceptional experience.

Dr. Martin Wiese operated on my inguinal hernia at his clinic near Frankfurt, Germany in mid November 2020. I experienced minimal pain and after 14 days was able to return to work. It is now more than 6 weeks since I was operated on and I feel able to carry out lifting operations and exercising activities with complete freedom. Further I have not had any nerve pain.
I would recommend this surgeon without hesitation as his technique and specialist experience in this field is exceptional.

I finally decided to get my hernia fixed because it was becoming annoying. Within the Netherlands only rectification with mesh is possible, the operation without mesh I came across watching Radar and this solution seemed for me more logical and reliable compared to bringing foreign materials with many horror stories. Some reluctance was bothering me, what to expect abroad, how reliable is this option, how professional is the surgeon and his team etc.

For an intake I first travelled to Amsterdam and met Dr Koch, he was positive regarding the possibilities to have this repaired successfully and provided immediately firm dates only few weeks after the consult. After consultation on compensation of the cost by the health insurer, despite Corona doubts, I confirmed the surgery for 11 Nov and traveled by car to Cottbus where all hotel reservations were arranged and checked in to visit the clinic same day for intake and pcr test. The clinic is quite sober and rather back in time, but intake etc was professional and swift.

Returning back to the hotel I met quite a lot of Dutch fellow patients, also awaiting their operation same period/week and this gave me actual quite some comfort mentally prior the operation.

The day of the operation, we were picked up, the team of Dr Koch took over on arrival at the clinic, it seemed like a swiss clock work in preparation and operation with many patients coming and going for the same procedure.

The surgery was quick and after recovery I was dropped back to the hotel, all ok, no pain, also next day marginal pain. After 2 days attendance in the hotel by Dr Koch for check up al was fine. Daily more movement possible, I drove home myself on the 3rd day! In the 3 weeks thereafter everyday improving, numbness disappearing and now all movements possible.

Iam very pleased with the whole experience and result of the operation, all back to normal shape!

Dr Koch and team locally are superb in what they do and the way they do it and would recommend anyone to visit Cottbus for this operation rather sooner then awaiting too long.

After 3 years of unsuccessfully trying to fix my hernia naturally it was getting unbearable and large, moving down into my scrotum. I refused the mesh treatment from the NHS last year as I know of a few people who have had serious complications with them.
I was aware of the Shouldice technique in Canada but it is a long way to Canada and very expensive.
I was looking for meshless procedures in Europe and my friend came across Bio Hernia.
5 stars doesn't quite go far enough to say how I feel about them. They were super quick to respond and before I knew it I was booked to go to Cottbus to see the amazing Dr Koch!
The whole process was super slick - even with the current Covid situation. Conor and Nahom are great at what they do and you can really feel the care in their work.
Dr Koch was so professional and reassuring and kept me very much at ease. The operation was very quick and before I knew it I was back in the Hotel. He came to see me everyday that I was in Germany and even rebooked me into a hotel in Berlin for the final day to make my travel plans easier. He also gave me his mobile number and told me to contact him at any point if I had any problems.
Cottbus is such a lovely, tranquil place to help with the healing process and the Sorat hotel where Nahom booked, for me was fantastic as well.
The icing on the cake was that NHS are even refunding me the operation cost!
If you have any issues with a Hernia then look no further that Bio Hernia and Dr Koch and his crew!

After diagnosis of an inguinal hernia and a little research into possible fixes, an old school-friend recommended BioHernia, as he'd opted for non-mesh repair in Germany with them years before.
As the EU transitional arrangements were ending this year, I quickly arranged with BioHernia for treatment in Frankfurt with Dr Wiese - excellent man.
Both Conor & Nahom of BioHernia in UK must be congratulated on their knowledge, consideration and professionalism in all aspects of this matter. No aspect of my treatment could be considered less than 5 Stars.
The UK has a long way to catch up in "mesh-free" Hernia repair treatment, unless you are a wealthy/insured going to Harley Street!

Unable to access surgery in the UK, primarily due to the current Covid situation I happened upon Biohernia during an online search and realised that a non-mesh repair was very much my preferred option. Having realised that my condition was deteriorating fairly quickly and not wanting to wait until I became an A&E case at 69, which seemed increasingly likely, I called Nahom at Biohernia. Following a check of review sites and a number of phone calls during which Nahom at Biohernia with admirable patience and efficiency, referred my case to Dr Martin Weise at a clinic in Kelkheim outside Frankfurt, obtained agreement for treatment, found me flights, booked accommodation at the hotel (Arkaden) adjacent to the clinic, arranged a pre-op consultation and Covid test, provided me with clear written confirmation and a letter signed by the surgeon in both German and English explaining why I needed to travel during lockdown as a matter of medical urgency should I need to explain to border controls in the UK or Frankfurt, I found myself three days later en route to Germany.
Nahom undertook all this without charge and required no up front payment for treatment or accommodation, explaining that I should pay the hotel and clinic direct.
In the event I was not challenged about my reason for travel on departure or arrival. Though I felt quite satisfied that travel for essential medical treatment was allowed even in lockdown it was reassuring to armed with the surgeon's letter.
I travelled out on a Tuesday, and the following day visited the clinic, had a Covid test and met the surgeon Dr Martin Weise for a detailed pre-op review and discussion of options. It transpired that although my preference was for a mesh-free repair, the deciding factor would be the state of my connective tissue as there were indications it might be of reduced quality and a repair without support might carry an increased chance of subsequent failure. I paid for the operation at this point but agreed that I was content for Dr Weise to make a judgement call on the use of a resorbable (absorbable) mesh and pay an additional charge for the mesh afterwards if necessary.
The operation took place the following morning after receiving a negative covid test result. I met Dr Weise both before and after the operation when he explained in very clear language, supported by photos, what he had found and what had had done. That afternoon, accompanied by a fellow hernia repair patient and his partner we were strolling in a nearby park as "the more you walk the less pain you will experience during convalescence" I had follow-up visits to Dr Weise on the following two days, and flew home on the Sunday.
A message from Lufthansa advised me that during my time in Germany the UK had introduced a requirement to register my arrival on line in advance of travel. This generated a response with a QR code which I should present on arrival to show I had recorded my 14 day quarantine details. The hotel printed this off for me but in the event I was not asked for it at Heathrow.
Throughout my time at the clinic I found Dr Weise to be one of the clearest, kindest, most understanding and responsive medics I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. In the event I did have a repair using a resorbable mesh and am entirely content that this was the right decision for me. I see little point in going to a specialist hernia surgeon who has conducted hundreds of successful operations and choosing to ignore his advice concerning the best quality of life outcome. His final action was to ensure I had his mobile number and to understand that I should call him at any time should I have any questions as his care would not stop when I left Germany.
In summary, the whole process from Initial contact to return home took just over a week, the planning by Nahom, surgery by Dr Weise, accommodation and support at the hotel and flights with Lufthansa all contributed to a worry-free experience.
I will return without hesitation should I need my other side attending to.

Excellent intermediary service to get a non-mesh repairment of an inguinal hernia at the clinic of Dr. Koch in Germany. I recovered fast and it was less painfull as I expected. I could act as before within four weeks without having pain.

I decided to get my hernia repaired by a specialist, rather than a general surgeon, and also in Ireland there are no surgeons who don’t use mesh. Found BioHernia who were super helpful, and organised the procedure and hotel. One day after arriving in Kelkheim (Taunus), Germany I attended Dr. Wiese's clinic for assessment and the next morning the operation took place. He is a fantastic doctor and also a great guy. Very satisfied with the whole experience.

In sept 2020, I had mesh free surgery with Dr. Wiese in kelkheim. All went well. 4 weeks after surgery I am back on my bike. The trip details were organised by Biohernia. My view is that Biohernia did an excellent job. I was impressed with the communication & attention to detail.

I found the BioHernia web site whilst researching alternatives to with-mesh hernia repairs following a chance conversation with a friend. He had had a with-mesh hernia repair some years ago, but continues to experience serious pain on occasions.
I was impressed with what I read on the BioHernia web site and filled in the contact form. I then had a number of telephone conversations and email exchanges with Nahom to clarify a few things. He was very patient and helpful throughout, and I decided to go ahead.
I was then given a date just 9 days away! Thankfully I was able to book some flights. I also made the bank transfer for the operation and renewed my passport!! Nahom did the rest, booking the operation, the hotel and the airport transfer.
My operation was performed by Dr Koch in Cottbus and everything went smoothly. The care was first rate including the 2 visits he made to my hotel to check up on me (and 3+ others), on the same evening and next day. I am now 5 weeks post-op and feeling great.
Summary - if you want a mesh-free operation then I fully recommend BioHernia and Dr Koch.

I was looking for a treatment for my bi lateral inguinal hernia that didnt involve the use of mesh and I found BioHernia online .From the moment I decided to to have the operation within less than a week everything was organised and I flew to Germany and had the operation .I cannot thank them enough they organised everything all I had to do was get a flight .Dr. Andreas Koch and his team were really nice and took care of me for my operation and my stay in Germany .Dr Koch visited me most every day to check on me and change my dressings I couldnt have asked for better treatment.I would like to thank them again and wouldnt hesitate to recommend them ,I can now get on with my life as normal all thanks to Biohernia.

I was scheduled to have a inguinal hernia operation in the UK on 1st April 2020, but it was canceled due to the corona virus.

Then l began to research the non-mesh method and found BioHernia.

Nahom was my first contact and he was very helpful. l was a bit concerned about not being able to see a specialist in the UK to determine weather my hernia was suitable for a non-mesh operation but
I decided it was the right thing for me.

BioHernia arranged my accommodation at the hotel Arkaden in Kelkheim, Germany near the Clinic.

So l set off to Frankfurt then Kelkheim where l met with Dr Wiese the surgeon. The moment l met him l liked him and felt l was in safe hands.

Kelkheim is surrounded by forrest and as the weather was good l was able to walk a lot, which was very relaxing before and after the operation.

The whole experience was excellent and one month later l am very pleased and almost back to normal.

My advice is anyone thinking of having a Hernia operation, seriously, consider non-mesh.

Contact was very pleasant from the beginning. I had to be treated for a double inguinal hernia. Everything was arranged for me, I just had to make sure I was on time for the operation itself in Cottbus. Doctor Koch is a very knowledgeable doctor and cares about his patients. The inguinal hernia is resolved without a mesh, in the traditional way that is hardly used anywhere anymore.
