ATM ate my money

I would like to file a complaint regarding to ATM deposit failure. On Saturday February 7th, 2026, I went to BMO on 99 boulevard de I'Hôpital, Gatineau, QC J8T 7V1 for my deposit. The deposit was around 4:40-4:45pm for the amount of 1560$, the ATM pushed out some money back and appeared 1160$ and asked me to click confirm which I did. Unfortunately then an ATM cancel that transaction and I haven't pay much attention. I continued to my second and third deposit transaction and once I realized that the first transaction wasn't gone though to my account, I stayed for a while, tried to call the customer service which they picked up my call after waiting on the phone for 1hr.

I have been told that it takes up to 10 business days so they adviced me to go to the branch since it would be faster as it's a large amount of money. On Monday February 9th, I went to branch, I have been told that they couldn't verify it now as Gardar would come in the afternoon but the request has been set for urgent so I will be contacted from the bank in 48hrs. I waited until Friday February 13, no call, no update so I went to the bank again, the bank teller told me, unfortunately this is not his main branch, but he has escalated to the manager so I should have received a call on Monday. I kept calling but no solution has been provided. As of today Monday 23, no call no updates at all. This is the worse service I have ever received even though I had advised that I need this fund to pay off my credit as soon as possible.

Had my card for years

Had my card for years, and without notice they canceled my card. And the reason was "I didn't use it enough" they didn't like how I paid off the balance either. And constantly call and email about payments when I do make payments all the time. Stop harassing people! They are rude and insulting as well when you talk to anyone. Worst customer service ever.

One star because Zero is not an option.

One star because Zero is not an option.
Horrendous customer service, and this from a top-tier customer of multiple decades.
BMO arbitrarily decides policies then applies them with unmitigated disregard for the law. Embarrassed to say that I am a customer. Find another / any other bank.

BMO are the greediest bank I’ve ever…

BMO are the greediest bank I’ve ever dealt with. They once harassed me with calls, because they claimed I didn’t make my “minimum monthly payment”. THE PAYMENT WAS UNDER A DOLLAR SHORT. They literally tracked me down via email, phone and text, multiple times, for a few cents. DEAL WITH ANOTHER BANK.

Extremely disappointed former customer

I’ve been a long-time customer of Bank of Montreal and recently had a frustrating experience with their credit card management practices.
Despite actively paying down a significant balance and not missing payments, my credit limit was reduced due to “low usage.” Shortly after, I received only a letter that the account would be closed altogether. This feels counterintuitive and discouraging for customers who are trying to responsibly manage and reduce debt rather than continually use available credit.
Lowering limits while balances remain high can negatively impact credit utilization ratios, which in turn can affect credit scores. For customers working to improve their financial situation, this approach seems punitive rather than supportive.
I understand that financial institutions manage risk, but clearer communication and consideration for long-standing customers would go a long way. After many years of banking history, I expected a more balanced and customer-conscious approach.
I hope BMO reconsiders how it handles low-activity accounts, particularly when customers are actively working to reduce debt.
I will not be using this bank for any product now or in the future. Extremely disappointing experience.

Long wait to handle a simple transaction

I worked in banking for 16 years. It should not take 30 minutes to an hour to handle a simple transaction. I’ve called twice this month on two separate transactions. First one took an hour of waiting and the issue was not resolved. The second transaction was also time consuming. So much back and forth with other departments and constantly asking me to repeat information, I already explained. BMO Telephone Banking needs to get their act together.

Worst Bank, Worst Customer “Service.”

First off, been with BMO 20+ years, have a good credit score, high paying job and although my credit cards are high limits, I always pay way more than my minimums and thousands of dollars a month and never missed a payment. Out of no where, my line of credit was closed, and one of cards, which was a PAID OFF Mastercard (20k limit), was closed out of no where. Two accounts closed with zero reason to close on their end out of the blue. When I asked, guy was very short on the phone, passed me off to his “manager” who just apologized and said nothing they can do. I’ve lost all trust in this bank, who knows if I’ll even have my other credit card in the morning these days. If I was ever late on cards, or over limit myself I would understand but this was completely unjustified. I spend a lot of money with these guys, thousands a month, I also use my card for all my work trips and pay them quickly, also pay an expensive premium for the Infinite Privilege ($499) a year, to be treated with zero respect. Moving forward will be changing banks, and MY respect will be moving to someone else. Blown away.

Anyone reading this, just run.

New customer. Poor customer service

Tried to set up online banking after opening a new account. The teller explained it in detail and it should have been an easy process. After over 2 hours and multiple phone calls because no one could provide me the necessary information I finally had online banking set up. Extremely frustrating as a new client. I was not impressed at the disorganization. This bank needs to fix their system.

So my son went into the bank this…

So my son went into the bank this morning to find out why he was charged $1.25 x 25 and they said for transactions so he asked what transactions and the idiot refused to tell him. Also they changed his account to one that you need a minimum balance of $3000 a month, it doesn't take a genius to see that he doesn't even get $800/month but they decided to change his account WITHOUT HIS CONSENT. I think bmo just hires idiots or scammers to rip off their clients and I think ALL bmos should be shut down and their tellers charged with fraud. What a freakin joke.

They have taken my money hostage!

They have taken my money hostage!! If I could give this communist bank 0 stars they would get -5. Terrible bank all around. If you have money in there RUN TO GET IT OUT ASAP. This institution lies to you, refuses to fulfill your online transfers, won’t deliver your electronic checks with the excuse, the institution you sent the check to refused it. Can’t get anywhere with customer service that’s if you get to talk to a real person. It feels like I am dealing with a Communist Bank.

Poor service results in losing customer

I have had a BMO account and credit card for over 5 years and with no warning at all and a balance of 60$ on my credit card they went and closed the credit card account on me. I went into the bank and they said I had to call the number on the back of the card as they couldn’t help me. I did that to find out my account was closed Jan 21, 2026. When I asked why no one seemed to be able to answer me. I’ve paid all my bills on time and paid off in full every month. Such poor customer service on their end. I do not recommend anyone using BMO.
I have since closed my other accounts and will take my banking elsewhere.

I am currently based in the UK and have…

I am currently based in the UK and have started receiving emails from BMO regarding a credit card account I never opened. Fearing identity theft, I called their customer service team. Despite receiving multiple emails from BMO to my personal address, the agent 'could not verify' me because I didn’t have the full card number (which I obviously don't have, as I didn't open the account!).

There was zero empathy and zero initiative. No offer to escalate to a fraud specialist, no security department email provided, and no reassurance regarding liability. Instead, the advisor became irate and eventually hung up because I couldn't provide data for an account that isn't mine. To top it off, the only 'solution' offered was to visit a branch in person—despite me explaining repeatedly that I live in the UK. BMO needs to stop hidden behind scripts and start treating potential fraud victims like humans. Utterly incompetent and dismissive.

Relentlessly useless

As a business owner I have had to use a BMO $20k limit credit card , little did I know that BMO would call me relentlessly night and day , on sundays , early as 7 am , over and over sometimes up to 5 times per day just to tell me my account is over due a $125 on a payment .This went on for years, literal harassment. I had my lawyer pay them off in full. I will not be using them again and I will tell everyone about my horrible experience when ever I can. I’d rate them Zero out of a 100 stars.

This is literally the worst bank ever

This is literally the worst bank ever. They reversed a dispute for a FRAUD charge that they ADMITTED was fraud to the point of closing my debit card, then reversed it and told me I was liable to pay the charge. They then closed my bank account when I refused to pay and removed my entire bank history so I no longer have access to bank statements. This bank should be investigated for fraud.
