Understanding customer service

My book was initially marked down to $0 due to being an international edition, but Bookbyte's customer service was very understanding and restored this to 50% given the misunderstanding and that it was my first order.

Never using Bookbyte again

Never using Bookbyte again. I sent them several books and my order says “never received.” They basically stole my textbooks or lost them. I am now missing hundreds of dollars in textbooks of mine. Do not use!! :(

They will "reject" your book but still keep it

Do not sell to this company.

They quoted me over $100 for my textbook. I mailed it in as they requested. They never sent another communication. Upon realizing I hadn't heard from them, I checked my account on their website. It said they had "rejected" the book. I emailed customer service to ask when I could expect them to return the book.

Customer service told me that they had rejected my book because it had binding/cover damage. There was no binding/cover damage when I sent the book to them. They then said that they were giving me nothing for the book and would keep the book in accordance with their terms. When I asked for proof of the book's alleged condition, they could not provide any. So, they took my book from me.

I'm posting this to warn others, do not attempt to sell to this company.

Upon receiving your book titled "Federal Courts and The Federal System, by Fallon, 7th Edition", our Buyback team found that it contained cover/binding damage which prevents normal use of the book. Since we are unable to resell books that can not be used, the damaged book was rejected from your order. Your Bookbyte account was updated to reflect this rejected status as of 6/11/2021, which is when your item was inspected.

They basically stole a brand new book…

They basically stole a brand new book from me. Do no sell your books here. They "rejected" my resell after only using the book for one semester and the book had minimal writing and no signs of wear.

This company steals from hard- working…

This company steals from hard- working students trying to recoup some money for their books. I sent them a Pathophysiology book almost 2 weeks ago and haven't received an email, check, or anything. They prey on students offering quotes, take their books, and don't pay. Completely ridiculous our books should be sent back if we don't get paid. To not send them back shows their con artists. No excuses. They will never get another book from me.

3 shipped 2 received??? Same pkg

Thought I was having a good experience, until I got an email telling be they had canceled one of my book buy backs. When confronted, they said they never received the book. Which is incorrect because they got 2 of the 3 books that were in the same package.???

Avoid; a scam company

Not only did six months go by without word from Bookbyte, but they also stole my book. I called them out for it, to which they replied the book I sent had a different ISBN because it was a loose-leaf edition, which isn't true at all. I checked the cover of the book multiple times before sending it and it had to same exact ISBN number as the hardcover. When contacted all BookByte had to say was "the ISBN didn't match, and we will not send unsaleable books back per our policy." So they conveniently get to steal my book from me, legally. :)

Unfortunately we did not receive this ISBN from you. What we received instead was the loose-leaf ISBN 9781319125172. Our prices are based on the ISBN directly on the book we receive therefore your order was updated to reflect that ISBN. Since we are not purchasing copies of the loose-leaf ISBN 9781319125172, the book was rejected. Had the correct ISBN been entered at the time your order was placed, our system would have indicated we were not purchasing that book. This information was updated on your Bookbyte.com account on 5/6/2020.

I do show that you did reach out to our Customer Service team and a payment was processed for the loose-leaf textbook, despite it not currently having a resale value on our website. Zero Accountablity

I sent a package a month ago (August 29th) that contained 3 textbooks. I was not aware that the preprinted label was not insured. That apparently was my error, as there is a tiny drop down option to add it at checkout, but I didn't see it. So, I took it to a mail drop off (that they claim is not on their list, but it was listed as an acceptable location at checkout). The store, My Mailbox, claims USPS picked it up. USPS claims it was never given to them, and Bookbyte is washing their hands of all responsibility since it never arrived. That is $147 towards my daughter's college books that we are SOL. I'm sure someone has reaped the rewards of these very expensive textbooks. I will never do business with Bookbyte again, nor this store. And will avoid using USPS as much as possible moving forward. Bookbyte has done zero to assist me in locating the box in question, and has no intention of reimbursing me for any portion on the lost books. Sellers beware!

Unfortunately as you mentioned, USPS tracking has indicated that they have not received your shipment or scanned in your package. From our previous conversations, I understand that you brought your package to a third-party shipping location, which is not something we recommend when shipping your order. We do recommend taking your package to a staffed official USPS location, where you can also purchase the optional insurance. This way a USPS agent can also provide you with a receipt/confirmation of the shipped package. I would definitely recommend checking with the third-party shipper that you brought your package to, and we have noted your order and are looking out in-case the shipment does still arrive. Scam company ripped me off

Zero stars fit this rating. I should of read reviews first before sending them books. I send them books. It shows delivered. They show items pending ORDER over 3 weeks, which is unacceptable. No excuse for pending that's near a month. They used slow media mail (no insurance) to send in books. They didn't send no PayPal payment.

Worst customer service couldn't even answer a question properly.

This is worst service and won't ever used them again.

I sent my books to this company without reading reviews...

I sent my books to this company without reading reviews. It seemed to good to be true that they would buy my used text books that I paid $500 for. It was to good to be true. After over a month of waiting I haven't received any sort of payment, their website recommends that you send your textbooks in multiple boxes so that in case one gets "lost" you will at least get something. Well I don't think it was a coincidence that the cheap $5 book made it to them (yet still haven't received payment) and the other expensive books showed "delivered" then they just accidentally disappeared. They then had the gall to tell me it was my fault because I shipped them in multiple boxes which messed up the shipping process causing my expensive books to disappear. I'm certain someone else is enjoying my expensive textbooks right now because of this scam company. They also say once they receive the books they own them and you can't get them back period. So whoever has my medical textbooks right now your welcome I hope you get good use out of my donation. As for anybody reading this review I advise you to stay away from this company because they will steal from you.

Update: after a month and a half of back a forth emails and frustration, and calling them out for “loosing my book” they gave me a one time courtesy payment of respecting the offer they initially quoted. Respecting the initial offer shouldn’t be a one time exception it should be the norm of good business practice. I still would recommend you stay away from this company and I won’t be using them again.

VERY DISSATISFING EXPERIENCE!

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!! I sent in one book "Writing Logically Thinking Critically 8th Edition" in Good Condition that was valued at $24 from them but I didn't get anything back!!! I checked the Status of the order and it said it was rejected!! A REFUND AT LEAST WOULD SUFFICE! Never will do business with them again!!!!

Upon receiving books, our Buyback team first checks the ISBN on the book to ensure that it's the same as the ISBN on the order. Then they check the condition of the book. When checking the condition of the book, they also check for book authenticity. Our buyback team inspected your book titled "Writing Logically Thinking Critically (8th Edition)" and found it to be an inauthentic copy. They are investigating how this item was illegally produced, however we are unable to return the book since it is an inauthentic copy and should not be in circulation.

I would again recommend that you contact the location you ordered this item from and advise them of the issue as they will need to reimburse you for the book. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service team directly.

Starting to think this is a scam.

I sold two books to Bookbyte two weeks ago and have not heard anything back. I shipped them in different boxes as instructed. I also sold to Bookstores.com and shipped it the same time as the Bookbyte books. I found it fishy when bookstores.com sent me several emails concerning the status of my order but I have not received a single email from Bookbyte. Bookstores.com said I would receive my check in the mail within 5-10 business days of when they received it but I got it in 3. I still have not heard from Bookbye about the TWO books I sent them and have not received any money from them. A scam. I should have settled to make $2 less and sold all of my books to bookstores.com.

They received my textbook and it has been FIVE days and I have not gotten my $. They steal people's books for FREE and sell them on their website while the seller gets NOTHING. Also how does it make sense to recycle or donate our books if rejected ??? We should get those books BACK.

PLEASE READ THIS. THEY ARE TRUSTWORTHY.

I didn't originally check any reviews. When my book was taking awhile to process, I did look for reviews.
What I have to say is: Many of these reviews didn't take advantage of the quick response times that Bookbyte's customer service offers. If you are unsure of something, SEND THEM AN EMAIL. If you think they are a scam and need proof of what you say was correct, TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR BOOK(S). I did just in case, and didn't need to send any because they are a LEGIT COMPANY.
Bookbyte doesn't accept: looseleaf, instructor's edition, and textbooks that are in bad condition.
If you are unsure of anything, please ask them questions and be respectful! The process is so easy! You print the shipping label (they pay for shipping) and tape it to the envelope your textbook is in. I recommend one that has cushion because media mail arrives by truck and you don't know what packages your books will be mixed in with. My quote was for $101.93 and that's exactly what I received. I got my check 3 days ago, and I sent the textbook on the 4th of april so yes, it does take a bit of time. However, there's delivery, processing, and then the week it takes to get your check. It could take longer, but trust me, if you're unsure about anything, please contact them.I'd 100% sell to them again.

Scammers - update

Update: After a number of back and forth emails the company did fulfill their side of the bargain and gave me the full amount of my quote. I'm glad I have documentation of what I sent. However, I still don't plan on doing any more business with them moving forward.

Original:I am in agreement with the other reviews. This is a scam and stay away. I double-checked everything, included everything that was requested, but they paid a fraction of what was quoted and have kept the other books without any info as to why, etc. I will be reporting them as well. Please stay away from this company! First and last time!

Bookbyte chose to steal my book and not pay for it, I will definitely never use them again. They stated that I put the wrong ISBN when there was an error on their website that used the wrong one instead and now refuse to send my book back so I can sell it to someone else. Horrible service.
UPDATE: they contacted me back and said they could give me 25% of my original quote as a first time courtesy since it was my first order. If you choose to use them make sure to read their policies because I would still have preferred to have gotten my book back and sell it to someone else for more money than $27. I still think it's a little ridiculous they just get to keep your book and give you nothing for it. Had this not been my first order I would be getting nothing and they get to keep my book for free. I will not be using them again sadly.

Scam!!

SCAM! Sent in two and they claim was “not received” and the other “rejected” which is BS. Shipment was tracked and clearly was delivered and my books are never damaged. I always make sure the take care of them and I HATE writing in them. Will be reporting this company. It’s a shame they target students.

Never do a sellback with Bookbyte please. I gave them the item I had but never gave me my money because it's not the book they "expected". The error was clearly on their part and still they kept the book and refuse to pay. Never doing business with them again

An easy and pleasant experience

I had no problem with my transaction. I followed the directions, had a good book, and shipped properly. I had my money less than a week after shipping. I really question the condition of the books or peoples’ ability to follow directions from some of the reviews I read.
