AVOID - complete scam!

I sent a textbook in valued at $80, in good overall condition. I even spoke to someone via their chat function to make them aware that it had been used, and they advised the condition I described was fine. As soon as they had it I received a bizarre e-mail saying Bookbyte retained the right to shut down my account for any reason they wished, and that's what they had chosen to do. I contacted them, and they advised the book wasn't suitable for resale and they'd destroyed it. Eventually through formally complaining they gave me $20 as a gesture. I'm under no illusion that this book will now be sold on for $80+, and feel very silly for trusting them in the first place.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I certainly understand your frustration not receiving the full payment you were expecting.

When you placed your buyback order, you were given a quote based on the ISBN that was entered. This is not a guarantee you will receive this amount as all books are carefully inspected upon arrival. Our records indicate the ISBN you entered was for the hardcover textbook titled "Management", by ROBBINS. As you mentioned in your e-mail to us, the book that you sent was a loose-leaf textbook with a cover added by a third-party. Since we would not resell a loose-leaf textbook with a custom cover added to appear like the original/hardcover, that book was rejected from your order.

I do show that you did reach out to our Customer Service team after your book was rejected and payment was made for the amount of the loose-leaf ISBN we received, despite the book no longer being resalable with the custom/improper cover. If you have not yet received this payment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us again.

Thank you,

Bookbyte

I do not recommend this website whatsoever. I sent my books in the beginnings of February and they still have refused to pay for my books and now I'm fighting to get them back with USPS. I am extremely disappointed that Bookbyte was a scam. Please avoid

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and providing your order details. I do understand your frustration not receiving a payment for the package lost by USPS. We do encourage customers to take the proper precautions with their shipping company and to purchase optional insurance through USPS, as we cannot pay for books that are lost or damaged before they reach us.

As you mentioned in your review, you are in contact with USPS which is exactly the next correct step in this situation. If you need a copy of the original prepaid shipping label or tracking number of the package for your trace or claim, please contact our Customer Service team directly and we would be happy to provide that information. Please also feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,

BEWARE

Hello I tried to sell my textbook to them. And got quoted $39 dollars. I sent my book in and 2 weeks later I received an email from a representative Miranda DeSantis that it was a fraudulent copy. Therefore they wouldn't buy it. Then they suspended my account and I have been trying to get my book back but no one has contacted me. I want to warn people not to do business with Bookbyte.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I do understand your frustration not receiving payment for your order so I hope to bring further clarification today.

Upon receiving books, our Buyback team first checks the ISBN on the book to ensure that it's the same as the ISBN on the order. Then they check the condition of the book. When checking the condition of the book, they also check for book authenticity. Unfortunately our buyback team inspected your book and found it to be an inauthentic copy. They are investigating how this item was illegally produced, however we are unable to return the book since it is an inauthentic copy and should not be in circulation.

I would again recommend that you contact the company you ordered this item from and advise them of the issue as they will need to reimburse you for the book. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service team directly.

Thank you,

DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS TO BOOKBYTE

I tried selling my textbooks to BookByte for the first time. This is what I wrote in my complaint to the FTC:

BookByte is a website that both sells and buys textbooks. I used their site to verify the value of 5 textbooks I wanted to sell. My total of quoted prices was supposed to be $107.25. I mailed my books within their delivery window and the condition of the books were good. I got a PayPal payment of $70 from Bookbyte. They no longer provide customer service over the phone, so I had to e-mail them asking why I did not get my full value,

The person I was speaking to over e-mail is Rachel S., their Customer Service Lead. She said one of my textbooks, "Multinational Business Finance" is a *teacher's edition* and they cannot buy back this book. Disappointed, I asked for them to send that book back. She said it's their policy not to do that. I had no indication that my textbooks is a teacher's edition, nor can they prove it to me other than their word and that "they inspected it twice". I can sell that textbook to a few other providers, and they are taking it for free. We've exchanged several e-mails and I told them they're blatantly ripping me off and that I would file a complaint with the FTC. After several e-mails where Rachel implies it's my fault for not reading their policies thoroughly enough, her recent e-mail notified me she had a *supervisor* look over my case and they would give me a 50% value of the book as a *courtesy*. I don't know about their business as a seller of textbooks, but as a buyer, it's a slippery slope of dishonesty. Going back to my e-mail confirmation, they word my buyback as "quoted prices" which Rachel referred to as not the exact value they had to pay, which is subject to change. And the fact that they're keeping my property without giving me cash they told me I would be given once the books arrive is THEFT.

I still have the original e-mail invoice of this textbook to prove my ownership. And not only did attempt to get away with keeping my book because of their company policy (which any company can establish and edit whenever they please) and not at all make an exception to give my book back (not even suggesting I pay them a delivery charge), but attempted to give me only HALF of what they promised to give me AS A COURTESY. They would argue those prices are subject to change and that I would be okay with that risk if I decide to do business with them--my takeaway. That's not a service, that's a bait-and-switch. They either need to start operating honestly or not at all.

If I bought a book from them and I decided their copy (which I've never seen before until I get it) does not meet my standard, would it be fair for me to pay you the value I THINK it's worth by asking my credit company to cancel the charge and pay a fraction? No, that's not fair, right? Well, that's the kind of business Bookbyte is pulling.

Did Bookbyte not pay you the value of your books and just kept it without even the option of returning it to you? File a complaint using the Complaint Assistant on the Federal Trade Commission web site. If there are enough complaints, justice will be served.

Bookbyte--I hope the $42 was worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I certainly understand your frustration not receiving the kind of payment you were expecting and apologize for any confusion or inconvenience.

When you placed the buyback order, you were given a quote based on the ISBNs that were entered. This is not a guarantee you will receive this amount as all books are carefully inspected upon arrival. Our records indicate the ISBN you entered was for the Student Edition of "Multinational Business Finance (14th Edition) (Pearson Series in Finance)"; which is what your $42.00 quote reflected. Unfortunately as you mentioned in your review, the item we received was an Instructor Edition with a different ISBN. We no longer purchase Instructor Editions, therefore the book was rejected.

After reaching out to our Customer Service team, I am showing that payment for the full quoted amount was made for your order. If you haven't already, you may need to log in to your PayPal account to accept the funds. If you have not received your payment or have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly at wecare@bookbyte.com so that we can ensure you receive your full payment for the order.

No Return for a Not Accepted Edition!!

I sent in a college textbook that I had used for a previous semester. They took the book without any indication that they didn't accept instructor's editions. After asking why the book was 'rejected', they emailed saying they did not accept instructor's editions and that it was written in their policy. Furthermore, they refuse to send the textbook back to me. I have to BUY IT BACK if I want it although they did not pay me for the book.

Not happy!

Not happy!! When the first time I sold my books to Bookbyte I didn't have any problems but when the second time I sold two of my brand new books I only got paid for one because according to Bookbyte one of the books had "cover damage" and they take forever to pay you for your books. I put Both of the books in bags so they wouldn't get any damages to them and the books I sold were over $100 each for my business classes and I only got $14. I wouldn't recommend this website!!

Our records show that payments for your books were issued out on 12/27/2018 and 1/3/2019 to the PayPal account on file. If you have not received either of these payments, please reach out to our Customer Service team directly so that we can have them reissued. I have used this site since 2013

I have used this site since 2013, however, I will no longer use this site for anything in the future. This company failed to process one of the two books sent over two months ago, resulting in no payment being issued for the book. I emailed the company to investigate and they asked me to provide proof of the weight of the box. It is unacceptable for an order to provide only one shipping label for two books and not to say that they must be shipped separately, then expect the customer to have to prove that two items were shipped. I am not sure how one book was received and the other was not, but the company did not do anything to find the book. They probably sold it and just never paid me for it. Be cautious when selling this company your books.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I can understand your frustration and I'm hoping I can clear up some confusion today. Since both books were created on the same buyback order, you are correct that they should be shipped together in the same package. Unfortunately when we received your package, it only contained one of the two books originally listed on your order.

The previous representative that you spoke with did request a copy of the shipping receipt you received from USPS, so that we could further investigate the issue and see if there was an issue during it's transit to us. You can still respond with a copy of that shipping confirmation/receipt, or e-mail it to me directly at wecare@bookbyte.com and I would be happy to assist you. We appreciate you choosing us these past years and I would really like to help resolve this issue.

Thank you,
