I sent a textbook in valued at $80, in good overall condition. I even spoke to someone via their chat function to make them aware that it had been used, and they advised the condition I described was fine. As soon as they had it I received a bizarre e-mail saying Bookbyte retained the right to shut down my account for any reason they wished, and that's what they had chosen to do. I contacted them, and they advised the book wasn't suitable for resale and they'd destroyed it. Eventually through formally complaining they gave me $20 as a gesture. I'm under no illusion that this book will now be sold on for $80+, and feel very silly for trusting them in the first place.

I do not recommend this website whatsoever. I sent my books in the beginnings of February and they still have refused to pay for my books and now I'm fighting to get them back with USPS. I am extremely disappointed that Bookbyte was a scam. Please avoid

Horrible service!!!! I sent them my text book and they responded by telling me my book was damaged, which it wasn’t, it was in perfect condition and kept it. I think bookbyte is a scam.

Hello I tried to sell my textbook to them. And got quoted $39 dollars. I sent my book in and 2 weeks later I received an email from a representative Miranda DeSantis that it was a fraudulent copy. Therefore they wouldn't buy it. Then they suspended my account and I have been trying to get my book back but no one has contacted me. I want to warn people not to do business with Bookbyte.

I tried selling my textbooks to BookByte for the first time. This is what I wrote in my complaint to the FTC:
BookByte is a website that both sells and buys textbooks. I used their site to verify the value of 5 textbooks I wanted to sell. My total of quoted prices was supposed to be $107.25. I mailed my books within their delivery window and the condition of the books were good. I got a PayPal payment of $70 from Bookbyte. They no longer provide customer service over the phone, so I had to e-mail them asking why I did not get my full value,
The person I was speaking to over e-mail is Rachel S., their Customer Service Lead. She said one of my textbooks, "Multinational Business Finance" is a *teacher's edition* and they cannot buy back this book. Disappointed, I asked for them to send that book back. She said it's their policy not to do that. I had no indication that my textbooks is a teacher's edition, nor can they prove it to me other than their word and that "they inspected it twice". I can sell that textbook to a few other providers, and they are taking it for free. We've exchanged several e-mails and I told them they're blatantly ripping me off and that I would file a complaint with the FTC. After several e-mails where Rachel implies it's my fault for not reading their policies thoroughly enough, her recent e-mail notified me she had a *supervisor* look over my case and they would give me a 50% value of the book as a *courtesy*. I don't know about their business as a seller of textbooks, but as a buyer, it's a slippery slope of dishonesty. Going back to my e-mail confirmation, they word my buyback as "quoted prices" which Rachel referred to as not the exact value they had to pay, which is subject to change. And the fact that they're keeping my property without giving me cash they told me I would be given once the books arrive is THEFT.
I still have the original e-mail invoice of this textbook to prove my ownership. And not only did attempt to get away with keeping my book because of their company policy (which any company can establish and edit whenever they please) and not at all make an exception to give my book back (not even suggesting I pay them a delivery charge), but attempted to give me only HALF of what they promised to give me AS A COURTESY. They would argue those prices are subject to change and that I would be okay with that risk if I decide to do business with them--my takeaway. That's not a service, that's a bait-and-switch. They either need to start operating honestly or not at all.
If I bought a book from them and I decided their copy (which I've never seen before until I get it) does not meet my standard, would it be fair for me to pay you the value I THINK it's worth by asking my credit company to cancel the charge and pay a fraction? No, that's not fair, right? Well, that's the kind of business Bookbyte is pulling.
Did Bookbyte not pay you the value of your books and just kept it without even the option of returning it to you? File a complaint using the Complaint Assistant on the Federal Trade Commission web site. If there are enough complaints, justice will be served.
Bookbyte--I hope the $42 was worth it.

Bookbyte is the Best place to buy, rent, or sell textbooks. The website is easy to use and they are fast and efficient.
I sent in a college textbook that I had used for a previous semester. They took the book without any indication that they didn't accept instructor's editions. After asking why the book was 'rejected', they emailed saying they did not accept instructor's editions and that it was written in their policy. Furthermore, they refuse to send the textbook back to me. I have to BUY IT BACK if I want it although they did not pay me for the book.

Fast quote and received the check within a few days after they received the book. Would definitely use them again.
Easy company to use! Just put in IBN, complete transaction, print shipping label, take to local UPS store or mail box store, tracking of your shipment, and then check! Awesome and trustworthy company!
Excellent service from start to finish! Timely payment! Will use again!
Start to finish excellent service.
I already received my check. I would definitely use them again for my college kids books.
Process was easy to use and quick. No complaints.
Extremely easy transaction! I had no issues. I chose to receive a check once everything was processed, and it only took 4 days to get it in the mail.
I sent my books in before and they didnt get my books due to the shipping company losing my package but sent my books through again and this time, my books were received and was able to be paid. Received the check quickly and in time for another semester
Very easy process and received updates along the way. I would definitely use this service again.
Not happy!! When the first time I sold my books to Bookbyte I didn't have any problems but when the second time I sold two of my brand new books I only got paid for one because according to Bookbyte one of the books had "cover damage" and they take forever to pay you for your books. I put Both of the books in bags so they wouldn't get any damages to them and the books I sold were over $100 each for my business classes and I only got $14. I wouldn't recommend this website!!

I have used this site since 2013, however, I will no longer use this site for anything in the future. This company failed to process one of the two books sent over two months ago, resulting in no payment being issued for the book. I emailed the company to investigate and they asked me to provide proof of the weight of the box. It is unacceptable for an order to provide only one shipping label for two books and not to say that they must be shipped separately, then expect the customer to have to prove that two items were shipped. I am not sure how one book was received and the other was not, but the company did not do anything to find the book. They probably sold it and just never paid me for it. Be cautious when selling this company your books.

Free shipping, convenient, and fast. I had a check in hand within 2 weeks. I could also track the process the entire time online, which is a lot nicer than sitting on your hands and hoping.
My refund was at a good price and processed timely.
