Free samples, feels like a scam - unhelpful customer services

I was very pleased to receive a code for 5 free wallpaper samples, I took a while to decide and was really impressed.

The code worked but left me with a 0.02 figure on the check out. I was then asked to pre authorised my credit card. (With no explanation of what was being pre authorised). I fled fearing a scam.

I contacted the company and was told :

"Preauthorisation is a temporary reservation of money on a card or account before the final payment is processed.
How it works
The company reserves a certain amount on your card. The money is not taken immediately, but it is blocked so you cannot use it.When the order is sent, the actual amount is charged, or the reservation is released.
So, no worries, this is how online payment works."

Never quite received such a patronising email and a zero value order has never had "pre authorised " unreadable tabs in my experience. Only a fool would click to accept a pre authorised tab without details.

Looks to be a decent product but the rest is a time waste and feels like a scam.
