We are Christians Against Poverty – it’s great to meet you. Poverty is so much more than going without. It’s so much more than lacking materially. Poverty destroys lives. It robs people of joy, hope and opportunities. It tears families apart, isolates those most in need of support, and leads many to believe there is no way out. Here at CAP, we won’t settle for that. Our vision is to see transformed lives, thriving churches and an end to UK poverty.

Very amateur and seemed more concerned…

Very amateur and seemed more concerned that I didn't have a TV licence than my debts.

When they first arrived the TV was on and they asked if i had a TV licence even though this wasn't part of my debts...Christianity hasn't changed - it still works for the monarchy collecting taxes by any means.

Very poor quality of training - I found the lady who visited, rude, very loud, and asked questions above her remit.

Collected data which shouldn't have been on the forms.

Almost as stressful as bailiffs!

In all honesty, whilst grateful for the help, my experience so far has been a really mixed bag, sadly most of this quite negative. My first debt coach was non existent support wise and kept getting appointments wrong. She also made some very ill educated, misinformed comments towards one of my conditions and I felt incredibly judged. I was also given erratic information and advised wrongly by her. Back in January I was told that I would have a new face to face debt coach and she has never materialised to date so far, despite me chasing this up over and over. I've now been told by three separate people that they've messaged her to no avail also. I've been bombarded with emails that don't make sense, and conflicting information. This is incredibly difficult to understand for someone with my difficulties. I was not told that I'd been granted breathing space and also received a rude email to say that my breathing space was up and they were closing my case wrongly, even though the breathing space had not long been granted. The list could go on. I've just had another rude email about me having gotten a budgeting advance, for a washing machine and fridge freezer, as being credit. A UC advance is surely not credit!! How else is someone with complex difficulties going to be able to get these items with no family to speak of to help etc. Poor communication on the debt coaches behalf. To be honest if they weren't actually doing to relevent paperwork for my DRO I'd have given one star to these people. And before CAP answer this, giving me the details to submit a written conplaint, I don't have the time or energy on top of everything else. Nobody does nowadays!

Avoid as they have no idea how to sort debts out they paid none of my debts in the couple of months with them. The person John was very rude to me on the phone and made me feel like I shouldn't ask for help, I reported him but nothing was done. I closed my account and went else where.

A great time of celebration as I can …

A great time of celebration as I can say that I am officially debt free.

It’s been many years (12) - I have struggled financially, scrimped and saved, court cases, food banks, and other help from friends and family in my many many many times of need. At times it’s made me extremely low in mood, physically sick and even suicidal.

A special thanks must go to Christians Against Poverty UK for helping me get my life back on track.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) have been extremely professional and helpful from my first contact with them right throughout the process. Charlotte my debt coach has been an angel from heaven. Today I have received a congratulations card from CAP in celebration of becoming being debt free.

I am so glad that I took the initial step in asking for help. I fully recommend this organisation if you are struggling with your debts and finances.

This is a brand new start for me and I look forward to living my life - DEBT FREE!

Thank you Christians Against Poverty once again for all your help.

I’ve been with CAP this amazing…

I’ve been with CAP this amazing brilliant company for three years now.

I feel as though I am recovering my former self and self esteem. I am a lot more confident than when I started out. I answer the phone and door now without any fear whatsoever.

Actually, what’s beautiful, is that my debt coach arranged for someone to phone me weekly and encourage me. I was also invited to many functions but were unable to make them. What worked great for me, was having the meals delivered once a week. I made friends with those people on my doorstep (during lockdown 😁😃❤️). My coach would also advocate on my behalf when I couldn’t, and she understands me. I am so looking forward to be able to visit some of these wonderful people at their church setting; and to thank them all in person, as well as my original debt advisor coach, who sends me regular texts and updates. She sends me prompts etc and has enabled me, after a long haul, to be able to get my confidence up and connect better.

Thanks to the entire CAP Team, I love you all. May God forever bless you and this amazing company, that blessed all and has no prejudices xxx❤️xxx

I am now debt free thanks to CAP .
The hardest part was picking up the phone and making that first phone call. All the hard work was taken out my hands, I no longer have to avoid phonecalls from banks or avoid opening mail. It has been such a relief to admit my problem and get such kind professional help from CAP.

A company a highly recommend for help

A company a highly recommend for help. They are good people trying to make a difference and have helped me climb out of a very deep hole.
Not just with debt but as it is the year 2020 mental health hasn't been the strongest and before the pandemic I lost hope on people until CAP helped in every way possible. Making sure I've eaten and have food. Making sure I'm mentally ok, making sure I have gas an electric and making sure I have people to talk to as I live alone. These things arent just a job description they dont have to ask you this but they do and that just shows why they have given me hope.
My advice for people not doing their part to help themselves is... you may feel at some points its all too much to carry on or you may feel cap nag too much but just remember how you felt before you asked them for the help be grateful and thankful such a service is even available to you and remember you can do it especially if you let cap help you.
P.s I only found out about cap this year through the growth hub and both services have helped so much together if you need help ask away...

CAP came for first visit and my life started again.

CAP came for first visit and I was expecting a total lecture and telling off. I was wrong. They were caring and very good listeners. The lady who looked after me was so encouraging and supportive, they changed my life. I Thank God I contacted them. If you are worried and overwhelmed pick up the phone and ring CAP. They can help and bless you too.
