Concerns about vehicle condition and claimed service history
I purchased a 2018 Nissan Navara from Car & Co, Dural, NSW, on 25 July 2026.
The vehicle was advertised as having "full service history" and "no mechanical issues", and I was told it had a pre-sale safety and mechanical assessment. The Form 5 supplied at sale indicated that no dealer guarantee applied. Given the vehicle's age and approximately 129,000 km at purchase, I have asked NSW Fair Trading to assess whether that was correct.
Within 24 hours of delivery, I found several problems, including a fuel leak at the filler neck, and notified Car & Co Dural in writing on 26 July 2026. An independent diesel and 4x4 specialist then inspected the vehicle and found further safety, roadworthiness and reliability issues, including low front brakes with warning lights on the dash.
I was also concerned about the service history supplied with the vehicle. The logbook entries did not align with the Service NSW odometer history and other records available to me. I contacted the business identified in the logbook, and it advised that it held no service records for the vehicle. Car & Co Dural told me it relies on documents and information supplied by the private seller. In my view, the "full service history" representation was not substantiated.
I provided Car & Co Dural with supporting information and tried to resolve the matter directly. As we did not reach agreement, I lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading and have had the necessary repairs carried out at my own cost.
