The logic/journey used on sms needs improvement. Since I’ve contacted several dealers about different 4Runners, I think the auto text message should include the link to the car, not just the ID number... See more

I would give less stars if I could. Zero. Negative one hundred. This is a scam, and the dealer we drove two cars out to see (one to sell, one to leave in) was even upset that CarGurus keeps sending people to him with a false, inflated offer and zero notification to him. This was a terrible experience and they should be shut down.
Updated 10/16: Again, don't use them. They replied saying the dealer's offer didn't match theirs, but the important info to know if that they NEVER contacted the dealer even after we "made an appointment" through their email. This is such a scam, and they're trying to blame dealers for their fallout.
The dealer also has tried to contact them several times and does not hear back. DON'T TRUST CARGURUS.

Total clown show in my opinion. Reached out to 4 auto buying sites, CarGurus had competitive bids with dealers close to me. I chose Lexus Carlsbad. Communication with them was poor and they seemed surprised when I showed up for my appointment despite several messages confirming it. The salesman there treated me with suspicion because I hadn’t traded my vehicle into the dealership where I bought my new vehicle – made me totally uncomfortable. He also claimed to know the sales manager from whom I had purchased my new vehicle which was clearly a lie. Then of course he lowered the boom with a lowball offer $4K below the quoted offer (and my vehicle was in pristine condition). He said I should complain to CarGurus. I told him they wasted my time and he said their time was wasted. I sold the car to another service that honored their quote and had a check in hand an hour after the debacle with CarGurus and Lexus Carlsbad. Save yourself the grief, go with Carmax or Carvana and avoid CarGurus and Lexus Carlsbad at all cost.

I tried to sell my car through CarGurus. The process was straightforward...so it seemed. I received an offer, via email, from a car dealer close to my home and was subsequently contacted by the used car manager. He said I needed only to bring the car in for a quick inspection and they'd buy the car on the spot. I did as requested. The car is like new, just as I had presented it online. After his inspection, the used car manager admitted it was as advertised and proceeded to offer me $3K less than the original written offer. He said the original offer was a retail price. Typical car dealer bait and switch. Beware when using CarGurus.

Received an offer from Prescott Valley Kia of $8546 through CarGurus.com. When I arrived at the dealer with my 85 year old father they started negotiations at $6100, more than $2k below the "OFFER" I received!??!! They behaved just like a dealership from the 90s. "We'll see what we can do.... Let me talk to my manager.... OK, now I'll take it to the big boss." Finally settled at $7500 only becuase I couldn't put my dad through the effort again. This is shameful behavior.
If it is not an offer then don't call it an offer. Be honest and upfront right from the start.
Oh, and the clincher, they listed the car for $12,599!

I got several offers on our late model car thru Car Gurus and naturally I took the best. The dealer even followed up and offered 380 more than original Car Guru offer. The car was a 2022 with 27k on miles. Very good condition. When we got there we found that their offer was completely ignored and they came at us with a 2200 less offer stating that Car Fax didn't show any brakes that were installed recently (not all brakes are recorded and no sign of need on vehicle) and that they said they plugged it in to a computer and it showed a problem. (No lights on and no codes) So I guess you could say they high balled us to get us in and then proceeded to weasel. Jeff Wyler Nissan Colrain Ave Cincinnati Ohio.

Went on Cargurus and got an offer on my car. I went to the dealer and they ended up offering a price way lower then what I was told. Totally frustrating and completely misleading. Ultimately a waste of time. Don’t even bother going through this site you’d be better off going to the dealer themselves

It’s nice but pretty useless if the information provided is incorrect/inaccurate. Doesn’t have a shop online. Delivery service is not offered from the dealer and any information they offer is meanings to the actual dealer. Gave it a two just for an app you can find a vehicle but all their other options are worthless. It’s basically a library for other libraries.

Just wanted to say how brilliant I think CarGurus is. At an instant, you can tell whether what is on offer is a good deal or not. Fantastic!

Vandergriff Honda gave me an offer for my used car through CarGurus on 12/07/2025. The offer was for $22,675 and said it was good for 7 days pending a hands-on inspection. I made arrangements to accept that offer and meet for the sale. Alex Arcos met me on 12/12/2025 and did his inspection. He then said he could pay about $1500 less. When I asked what was wrong with the car Alex said nothing was wrong. His manager came out and talked to us. I asked the manager why they wouldn’t honor the original price and he said, “Marketing conditions changed.”
The bottom line is that Vandergriff Honda and CarGurus used a Bait-and-Switch. They wasted my time and fuel to get me in the door and then wouldn’t honor their offer.

Selling a Toyota but CarGurus offer came from a local Lexus Dealer. Went out there and he would only offer $4,000 less. I was wondering why a Lexus Dealer would want a Toyota, now I know, bait and switch.

The dealership I want to deal with will not do any communication through email when I expressed I wished to do some of the communication through it. They called me day in and day out after I voiced I wanted to communicate through email first. I don’t understand how a cargurus expert voices my needs to them and I also do the same and yet it’s completely ignored. Professionalism in the garbage. I easily would have spoken on the phone after making an offer through email. They then said whenever you’re serious call us. How is an offer through written communication not serious? Very disappointing for someone who struggles to speak.

DO NOT SELL USING CAR GURUS!!
The whole experience showed what a shady company they are. we were pressure sold into a contract with threats that the offer would only last if i signed the contract within the hour. i explained i was abroad and the salesman told me i should get to wifi or the price will go up.
i explained i wont be able to read the contract thoroughly as im on holiday so i needed to know if the calls were recorded. he assured me they were and that the contract would match the offer on the call.
on the call i was told i could leave at any time, but this turned out to be a lie. i have then requested the recorded phone call 6 times, all of which have been ignored.
Once i left, Instead of supplying the calls like i asked, they have repeatedly threatened us with legal action, even threatening to extend the term so they can sue for more.
While advertising with them, we sold ZERO cars, but received at least 5 enquiries per day. we soon realised these were BOT leads.
The whole company is a SCAM the whole way through.
I am now hoping for our day in court to expose them.

So far dealing with cargurus has not been fun. There was a vehicle I was interested in a week go, I requested more info (this was early Saturday) and nothing. Saturday night I filled everything out to send them a purchase request as I was really interested, and filled out to have the dealership call me Monday at 9am. I figured I wouldn't hear anything Sunday so I waited. No Monday call. I went to the dealer website and their chat pop up, it said the vehicle was in fact still there and someone would call me shortly. Hours later, no call. I reached out to cargurus and he said he'd push my offer back out. Nothing! I checked the next morning and the vehicle was removed. Not a single word from the dealership! No one telling me it was sold, nothing! I was livid.
So, I began searching for dealers that shipped cars. I reached out for info on another vehicle. Another dealership got back to me right away. I've been going back and forth and asked how we would deal with my trade in, they said I would need to come in for that...um, I live states away!! I will need to sell my car myself and pay full for the new vehicle. Wait, then how did cargurus include my estimated trade into my offer?! This whole process has been a headache and I gave up and deleted all notifications from cargurus. I'll stick with carvana only from here on!

Maybe its useful to just get some info if looking for car. I used it to sell my car - complete bs, all the offers are pure fiction, just a bait, lure and 'handle' customers. I was provided with 'quotes' from several places but when went to one and then contacted the other, it was all bs - one offered ridiculous price ($4500 less then original 'offer'!) and the other in the end did not call back after I requested to confirm they would honor the offer (contingent on successful inspection) - did not even try as figured Im not some Pinocchio who they would be able to 'handle' when I am at dealership. Sold my car next day to Carvana who honored their good offer with no hassle at all. All in all this business clearly not even knows the meaning of the word 'Guru' - just another dishonest salesmen.

I am embarrassed that this company looks to be Headquartered in my home state of Massachusetts.
The dealer they identified to buy my car was very comfortable explaining that the CarGuru offer had nothing to do with them, as they presented an offer that was about half that sent over by CarGurus with their dealership name on it.
On the plus side, the dealer they identified did a great job setting up, confirming and reconfirming my appointment on multiple occasions.
Sample of one? Sure. My gut tells me differently, but YMMV..
To be clear, it is my opinion that the dealer intentionally gave an inflated estimate to get me in the door, and this was not simply a revision based on their assessment of my automobile. CarGurus would do well with putting a policy in place that would review individual practices in this regard.

CarGurus is the place to buy a vehicle without alot of hassle. They get what they need and after that no worries!! They offer delivery for most vehicles and online financing!!! Awesome

Offers from this site are not honored by dealers by a long shot. After calling a dealer with the online offer they went 20% below without even looking a the vehicle. Total bait click scam.

For my 2023 Chevy Camaro 1LS, Jeff Whyler Honda offered me $31295 when I applied for a quick cash offer on CarGurus today. I think this is a good deal. On my day off, Sunday, I went thirty miles back and forth, and they told me that they could only pay $23,850. You cannot have people drive tens of miles and give up valuable time for your deceptive schemes; CarGurus and Jeff Whyler Honda must realize that humans are not their toys. Avoid dealing with Jeff Whyler Honda; it is a dishonest company. You should also not trust the appraisals you received from CarGurus. I wasted my time; don't do the same.

Excellent choice of vehicles with a very good filter system in place. The big problem is that the companies that they allow to use their facility are not vetted.
I wasted a day visiting one such company who have hundreds of vehicles listed with Car Gurus. It was immediately obvious that this company is underhand and unprofessional. This is supported by their TrustPilot reviews - see Motors4you.
A simple glance at these reviews would surely cause CarGurus to disassociate with such a bad organisation. If only they showed diligence rather than continue to accept business from such companies which clearly causes so much grief for its customers. For my part I will continue to use CarGurus but exercise diligence myself. It would be good if Trustpilot ratings along with rating of car values which they already offer could be given.
