What a rip off company, not to be trusted

I sent them a pristine iPhone and waiting for a response that didnt come, I checked the account and they offered me £47.25 for the phone instead of the £100 or so as detailed on the website. Their email address doesn't work, sales@cashforphones.co.uk, you get a script error when trying to pay to get the phone back and therefore I had to ring then, it took me about 30 minutes to get through and I told them that I wanted the phone back, paid the £8.95 via bank transfer and told that it would take 72 hours to return the phone... One week later still no phones! I tried to call again today 6 November and waited to speak to someone for another 30 minutes at which stage I gave up (for today).. My Ref Number is 20359259

You will not get any money for your phone when you send it in

This company has totally ripped me off by not giving me the money of £141.00 for the HTC phone that I sent into them on the 25th of September. I have emailed them several times and they keep giving me the same excuse that they are having technical problems and that I should get the money soon. They were exposed on '[external reference]' last night as doing this to thousands of customers yet they are still allowed to trade. Disgusting. DO NOT SEND YOUR PHONE TO THEM. You can join the Facebook page called [external reference]. Sorry. Ref Number is 20342572. I am still waiting for my money. They don't answer the phone or reply to emails. Disgusting. I am having to start a small claims court case to get my money. As they haven't paid me. Legally the phone still belongs to me and they are in breach of their contract.

Incompetence or scam?

Well, I've been dealing with this wonderful company for 4 months now and I feel perfectly justified in stating for the record that they are the worst company I have ever come across in my 10 years as a manager by a country mile and i've delt with some right shambles suppliers and cowboys in my time I can tell you!.

As with many of their customers, they fished me in with promises of untold riches via an over-inflated quote for my six drawer-bound phones and after they'd recieved them they then lowered the quote using a dubious"wear and tear" excuse. Well being a busy man and rather than paying the return postage hidden in their T's & C's I begrudgingly let them continue and they reassuredly quickly sent me a payment confirmation email. This was mid June.

Full forward to mid July and dispite sending them many emails there was still no nice brown envelope sitting on my doormat, just an endless barrage of various E-promises that my cheque was "in the post" or "it will be with you next week" and then, just when I was loosing all hope of ever seeing my money the long awaited cheque turned up. It was by now mid August but what the hell right? At least it was over, I had my cash. Or so I thought. I ripped the envelope open and to my horror it turned out to be a part payment, about half of what they owed me.
Damn.
Cue more time spent typing away in-front of the computer sending polite emails and cue the same tired old "Next week" or "technical difficulties" replies. After another two weeks of perserverance the long awaited second cheque finally arrived! Hurrah but you know what's coming dont you. Yup, another part payment.
So I ploughed on with the emails, steadily becoming more and more frustrated and less and less polite with every passing week.
August became September and still the same old fobbing off "We're so dreadfully sorry" E-replies.
By the beginning of October I began threatening legal action but to no avail, still the same "Be with you next week" or "end of the week" rubbish. So finally at my wits end with these clowns I've filed a complaint with the OFT who have replied with an interesting letter which will remain private , written a scathing letter to BBC watchdog and I've at last resorted to sueing. It's only a paltry £50 they owe me but it's become more than a quest for what they owe me it's about the principle. Now I count myself as one of the lucky people. I can afford to hang on for payment until the cows come home and eventually by hook or by crook I will recieve payment even if I have to pay them a personal visit but many of the hundreds (I'm not exaggerating here, hundreds) of disgruntled customers of cash4phones cannot. They are students, single parent mothers and kids, all desperate for the money that this dispicable company owes them and they deserve to be paid.

From this shambolic performance you can only come to one of two conclusions-

1. The company is utterly incompetent and should be closed and fined.
2. The whole set up is a scam and should be closed and fined.

Either way, they need to be avoided. Companies like this cannot be allowed to continue in this manner. The more of us that take action against this sort of practice the quicker the athorities will take notice and eventually close them down and the quicker they will stop making people's lives miserable. If they owe you money and you find yourself going around in circles then don't be afraid. Go to the small claims court online and read the instructions, It's an easy process! They are there to help people like us. It will cost you £25 up front but you will get this fee back WHEN you win.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope it will steer you away from this company.

***UPDATE***

Since taking legal action and recieving a county court judgement against these cowboys I gave them one last chance before I send the Bailiffs around. Their answer? They removed my account so I can no longer contact them via email. I guess they think this will make me go away. Bailiffs are on their way and will be adding £100 to the court fees.

Absolutely abysmal service

on September 27th 2013 i sent my phone through to cash4phones after they offered me £183.00 for the unit. From that moment onwards it has been one of the most stressful and unpleasant dealings of my life.

Firstly upon receiving the phone there sales department email me informing me that due to "excessive wear and tear" they were not willing to honour their initial offer and would like to offer a revised cost of £63.00, i declined immediately and stressed my displeasure and surprise as i had taken pictures of my phone and it was in perfect condition.

They then "reassessed" the phone and came back with a new revised offer of £155.00 with i reluctantly accepted wanting to close the transaction without further hassle. This was on 4th October 2013.

I waited 5 days and no payment was made, i then received an email from them after chasing that "a payment of £63.00 has been sent to me in the post". Needless to say i was incredibly unhappy and contacted them immediately to complain, they did not reply to 5 separate emails. I tried calling every 15 minutes of each day and was always left on hold for the duration of that time, eventually after a week of calling i got through to an employee called Rhoda on the 23rd October, she apologised and took my bank details and assured me that payment would be made immediately but may not appear in my account until 48 hours later. Lo and behold... now two weeks on and still no payment has been received. Again i can get no answer on the phone, my emails now bounce back. So i have sent a recorded letter in the post today, the 30th October, informing the company that if payment is not made within 48 hours i shall be proceeding with court action. I have already reported the company to trading standards, watch dog and the financial ombudsman. And after reading countless online reviews having the same difficulty i can assure you, i will not give up on this until i receive my payment. And further more make everyone aware of what i can only describe as a dishonourable scam.

Scam! Avoid at all cost!

I was lured in by the highest quote for my Samsung Ace.

Never had any suspicions since I previously used (external reference) (or whatever you call it) and it was quick and painless. Sent my phone, got the check within a few days…

This time it was a whole different story.

I am so angry with them that I decided to write this review (and I don’t usually do it)…
I always had a screen protector and a cover case on my Ace, and believe me it was in a PERFECT condition when I sent it to this scam of a company.
I accepted £44 quote and decided to recycle it because I couldn’t be bothered selling it online. The envelope came in a couple of days, I carefully packaged it in a bubble wrap and sent it over.
Two days later I checked the status in my account only to find out that my phone had alleged excessive scratching on the screen(!!!) and the quote was lowered down to £18, also if I didn’t accept it I would have to pay the release/postage fee of c.a. £9.
I got really angry, believe me – it is not about money because at the end of the day £44 is not really the end of the world. I just realised the scam behind this operation!
I wrote an angry message to them and got a reply back that they will re-assess the phone.
3 or 4 days later I checked the account again and the quote came up to £28….

And this is what they do – they rely on the fact that most of people will not be bothered paying the release fee (which in many cases is a large chunk of the phone value) or argue with them over a few quid and will agree to the revised fee which is usually ridiculous.
Started reading on them online and found that many customers (with more expensive phones) actually went and asked for their phone back and received their phones damaged or in a very poor condition. Either way – you lose with them.

My problems didn’t end there. It took countless messages (and I think about 3-4 weeks) before I finally received my check.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!

It is unthinkable that they manage to operate this way nowadays.

Awful!

Same story has the thousands of others who have dealt with Cash4Phones.
Get the highest offer available online and send it off. Wait a week until you get around 40% knocked off the original offer due to "Excessive scratches on the screen." (even though you know it was as new). Lump it or pay to have it returned for £8.90.
Even then, it can take weeks/months for the money or your phone back.
The company has been featured on BBC Watchdog (30/10/13) so I think that should tell you all you need to know.
Avoid.

This company is one big con please don't awns them your phones. Sent my Xperia z recorded delivery in loads of bubble wrap so it was protected. Giving the fact the handset is very strong anyway is thought id make sure. These con artists now tell me the back is damaged, which obv they did and now my phone has gone from being £218.50 to £77. 100% rip off.

Was the best Price by quite a lot

The price was good. The bag came quickly but the only thing stopping me giving 5 stars was that the link to track my order wasn't updated very regularly which made me a bit uneasy about what was happeing.

Easy Transaction

From going online and picking my phone price, to payment into my bank. The transaction was very easy. It took 1 week from posting the phone to receiving money. Was a bit worried about bank transfer option, but it was quicker than waiting for cheque to clear. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to recycle their phone, I will certainly use again. Thanks again.

My C4P account states PAID, my bank says ZERO!

My account states that I have been paid, alas my bank account says NOT!
Since 21st July I have been fobbed off with many excuses, the last one via email last Wednesday apologising (!) that they were experiencing system failer but that I would receive my refund after 72 working hours, these expired yesterday and there is still no credit into my bank as of now! I cannot believe those people that have had a 'happy' result! I would not recommend this company!

Awful awful awful! Stay clear!

They've had my phone since 30th sept, offered me a stupid price! Finally changed price but still haven't paid! Tried phone numerous times and no answer! I email everyday! And get the same answer! Even asking for a request of a phone call I get no reply, so have no choice to take this further, I have emailed watchdog and have a meet about taking this to court.

No money received.

Sent off three phones back in June this year as I was raising money for charity. I have been in contact with them a couple of times via email and was told I would receive a cheque in the next 7 days. I am yet to receive any money. Very disappointed as selling old mobile phones was part of my fundraising and I am waiting for over £50. I have used other companies before and I will not be returning to cash4phones.

WOW!

I couldn't believe anyone would pay anything for my poor old phone and was very sceptical when I sent it off to Cash 4 Phones. However, 4 days after posting the poor old thing a cheque appeared for exactly the amount they had quoted. I'm delighted and would definitely use Cash 4 Phones again - fab service.
