I am extremely disappointed with Codecademy’s refusal to provide a refund for an automatic renewal I did not intend to keep. On November 27, 2025, I was charged $228.34. I have not accessed or use... See more

Codecademy is fine for the free courses. However if it's not possible to complete the paid ones, you may have wasted your money as the debugging methods don't work. The 'AI' tool is superficial and do... See more

I'm a retired embedded SW engineer…

I'm a retired embedded SW engineer mostly working in C, but also some experience in Pascal, OCCAM, Modula and Natural. For fun, I just want to learn another language (Javascript) to enhance the web page of our Repair Café. I do not need to learn programming principles, just the new language. For me Codecademy, is not the right place. I switched to w3schools where I can go faster, connection to html is included from the beginning and I can take short cuts when usefull

Simple and complete

Simple and complete

To be onest, all the material you find in codecademy is available out there, the point is, how much time do you want to spend to looking for it?
The exercise are, again, simple and complete, as also the example.

AMAZING for Beginniners

I struggled with R for a long time, but Codeacademy is great at breaking down information bit by bit, so you're able to understand the code you are executing and what each part does. It's also fun with different scenarios they have!

Sort out the scroll bar!

The exercises so far are concise and explain what to do however, the most annoying thing is the inability to use the scroll bar its so frustrating you when the cursor tries to hover over it it becomes the expansion cursor which expands the window. Several attempts are needed in the end i copy the code into a separate IDE and then paste back in and run

I want to change my career

I want to learn programming. I found your website. Used the trial period but I went through the lessons quickly. I am completely satisfied with the learning method as it is really beginner friendly. I paid the full course Full Stack Engineer for java script. Now I want to start from the beginning but I have a problem to reset the progress. I am asking you to help me so that from August 10 I can start learning from scratch as it should be.

It's a lot better than I've read online, but…

It's a lot better than I've read online - many people say that this is a huge waste of time and money, but I disagree. You will learn a lot on any course you take, but it's up to you to put what you learn into practice, because this is where Codecademy falls short due to the instructions guiding you too well. The instructions need to be more vague to make the user think more.

Pros:

1. The courses are structured and flow very well, you rarely feel lost (although once in a while, they like to throw a curve ball, but this is appreciated).

2. There is a bounty of resources, I'm confident that if I get through a course, I will understand the topic in depth.

3. They try to make you achieve things in many different ways, this keeps you thinking rather than just mindlessly clicking through information.

Cons:

1. There is no exam at the end that is manually reviewed, so I would argue that the Certificate of Completion carries a lot less weight than other courses.

2. They are a bit too quick to reveal the answers to you. Occasionally in a course, one of the steps will tell me exactly what to do rather than letting me think for myself which robs me of the learning opportunity. they should be more vague about the task and hide more under the Hint section.

3. Despite a clear understanding of programs I've learned, putting it into practice can be fairly difficult. The courses give me a clear understanding of the code and how to follow instructions, but not really how to think for myself.

It's not bad, I'm not disappointed and I don't regret spending £70 for a year's access. I do believe that Codecademy is quite flawed and if you're skilled enough at teaching yourself, you can probably find a free alternative that will teach you more effectively than this. Unfortunately, I can't teach myself very well, so using Codecademy was a better option for me.

Website is great, app not as good

Codeacademy is a great place to learn to code and decide which career path you want to pursue. The only reason I took off one star is that I would prefer an app that works on a tablet or iPad. The phone app seems to leave out some topics - it’s limited compared to the Codeacademy website. I hope they bring all that’s available on the website to the app one day.
