Booked and paid for a lakeside view…

Booked and paid for a lakeside view room for two nights , which said it was available.
Got a phone call the next day saying that there were no lakeside view rooms available.
Very disappointed, as it was going to be a special treat.
Was told on the phone call I could have a valley view room, which is £60 cheaper. I have been charged for the dearer room and still awaiting a refund.

Apologies for the confusion. It can take 3-5 days for the funds to settle. The original booking payment will have been held until confirmation of your reservation, once the lower category room was accepted the lower amount was released from that transaction.

What's not to like

Love this website. Easy to use and love the map so you can quickly see what hotels are available in the area you wish to visit. You can always find a "deal" to suit the budget. The site is easy to navigate too so what's not to like.

I had some difficulties booking but the chat box staff (Julie and Paula) through the website were very helpful and dealt with my queries effectively.

Website is very easy to use

Website is very easy to use and for me to find hotels in certain areas, also on a map or list view. Then I used a voucher to pay.

Much easier to navigate and use my voucher than other sites I’ve been on before.

Fantastic company to deal with

I had to amend my booking due to unexpected changes to our plans. I emailed and the response was so quick. Even though it was a weekend my booking was amended and I was given the option of a refund or a voucher for a future stay. I chose the latter. Rarely have I had such professional and efficient service. Particular thanks to Paula and Victoria.

Excellent Service

Country Hotels were so helpful in helping me use my vouchers to plan a trip around the lake district. They revised my booking for me where I should have booked 2 nights instead of 1 and also booked another hotel on my behalf. They responded promptly to my queries and Karen was lovely to speak to. They look after their customers very well.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Last year my husband bought me a voucher for a specific hotel using this website. On trying to book the hotel I discovered that it no longer accepted the voucher supplied by this company. So I contacted customer services who said that they could swap the voucher for a monetary one. Little did I know at this point in time that the monetary voucher still had the expiry date as the original voucher for the hotel. It was not made clear to me at the time and because I had an email I disposed of the voucher for the original hotel. I contacted the company to find out what the new expiry date was for my voucher. At this point I was amazed to discover there was no new expiry date (especially as this was an inconvenience to me after not being able to use the voucher on the specific hotel) and further to that my £199 voucher was no longer valid-it is 25 days out of date now. The company have been COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL in what seems like an issue that has been caused by their fault in the first place (original hotel not being available through their website). I STRONGLY ADVISE using a DIFFERENT PROVIDER and would not touch this company again. How totally unhelpful; given that I travel 6 times a year and have used over 20 different vouchers from different providers this company are the LEAST HELPFUL and seem to lack any compassion.

We sent an email in response to yours to advise that you can amend your voucher to a monetary version if you so wish, which can be used to book any of our hotels in our portfolio, and you were happy to do this. You did not mention anything about the expiry date and within your email you'd stated the voucher reference code that is on the voucher, along with the expiry date. There was no need to mention an expiry date as the date remained the same. We are sorry you didn't realise this.

When you emailed us yesterday, your voucher was 27 days out of date. We make it very clear that our vouchers are not valid after the expiry date and we are not aware of any competitor that allows expired vouchers to be redeemed.

Have some flexibility for extremely sensitive situations …

I am disabled and my wife is my full-time carer. I wanted to give a treat for last year's anniversary so I purchased a voucher to put towards an afternoon tea at one of their hotels near where I live.

I didn't realise that they didn't just do meals at their hotels and although they have suggested that for example I purchase a spa day the nearest one is 3 hours away by train.

They refuse to refund.

Thank you for your review. We have looked into this and can see that your voucher was purchased back in August 2023 and is valid for 12 months.

As stated on our website we are a booking agent offering overnight hotel packages in the UK. Since purchasing your voucher we have introduced a new product which is spa days and the number of hotels is gradually increasing. These give the customer further choice when redeeming one of our vouchers. Your voucher must be redeemed by the expiry date however the overnight stay or spa day can be taken beyond this time which we feel offers even more flexibility.

Beware

Beware! Ridiculous 25% non-refundable booking fee - even as the site is designed to easily look you into accepting other dates than intended and then refusing to refund when mistake discovered within 24 hours. This is how they make their money - NOT on service or value. Book elsewhere!!

Thank you for your review. At times our cancellation terms may be stricter however the customer receives a great value package which often includes extras such as a bottle of Prosecco and late check-out at a very competitive rate.

Rather than paying a cancellation charge a customer may select a gift voucher for the full value of the booking valid for 12 months which can be redeemed towards any package at any of the hotels on our website. We would hope that the extras and lower rate together with the offer of a voucher outweighs the charge should the customer have to cancel.

Thank you for your feedback on our online booking process. We have looked into this and can see you were attempting to make a reservation for a date that was not available. When making a booking the arrival date is shown on every page and highlighted on the summary page before payment is taken.

We are proud of the customer service we provide and are on hand 7 days a week if any assistance is required.

Voucher looks a mess, half of it upsidedown

I bought what was meant to be a special gift voucher for friends who have had a hard time. I carefully wrote a personal note to go on the voucher. It was sent by email and half the voucher, including my personal note, appeared on the voucher upside down. The voucher looked a real mess. Hugely disappointing. 0/10 for presentation which, with a personal gift, matters.

We have sold a significant amount of these vouchers and have not received any negative feedback up until now, however of course we want all of our customers to be pleased with their purchase so your feedback has been sent to our IT department to look into.

One of our Senior Reservations Agents contacted you immediately to offer to send the voucher by post, next day Special Delivery, free of charge to the recipient, so that they receive the voucher in a presentation envelope instead of by email. This way it would be appropriately folded.

We welcome feedback and have taken your comments on board as we are continually looking to refine and improve our products, and your comments are very useful in helping us understand our customers’ requirements.
