A great overall experience - would definitely recommend.

The whole clinic experience was professional, reassuring and supportive, from the welcome by the receptionist, the professional and calm environment and the support from the nurse. When reviewing my case, Dr Rima Clayton was knowledgeable, professional and very reassuring and answered all the different questions I had and her advice was practical as well as clinical. I arrived at the clinic feeling anxious and left feeling relieved and armed with practical steps. Many thanks!

This place is amazing

This place is amazing, very friendly and welcoming. I had an amazing experience and Dr Kreuser-Genis is very friendly also helpful. Totally recommend this practice to anyone.

Wart removal with Dr Clayton

Dr Clayton recently treated my little boy for wart removal. She was so gentle, patient and calming, we are really happy with the end result. All the team were super friendly and helpful, I would highly recommend.

We had an appointment at the clinic on…

We had an appointment at the clinic on the 10th June 2021 for our 13 year old son. What an amazing experience! All the staff, from the receptionist to the consultant were welcoming and very professional. They were all fantastic with our son and we all felt comfortable and at ease throughout the whole procedure. We initially only booked for a consultation and were amazed when our son was treated there and then. There was no rush, and they gave our son so much time and reassurance which really helped through the procedure. Would highly recommend this amazing clinic to anyone, and would not hesitate to visit again. Thank you to all the staff.

I was very happy with my experience.

I was very happy with my experience.
I was made to feel very comfortable with the specialist nurse and Dr Clayton.
The procedure was clearly explained and so were the findings.
I feel most reassured and would be happy to return for a review in a year.

Impressed

This is an excellent clinic

This is an excellent clinic. Dr Clayton and her team are friendly, professional and efficient. They take time to understand what you need and ensure you are getting the right treatment. My daughter has had a very positive experience and despite needing repeated visits she is always looked after well and in each visit everything is explained and she is made to feel very relaxed. I highly recommend Derma Reading!

If you want to get ripped off, visit Derma

If you want to get ripped off, go to Derma reading. When I booked an appointment, i was told 250£ fees which i agreed. The appointment was for 30 mins. Now they sent my insurance a total bill of 1160£. The doctor did not carry out full treatment but said she wanted to check by testing in a small area of skin and if it works, she will completely treat. Now over the phone I was told, they will charge my insurance next time i visit them to complete the treatment. I was told if i pay directly the amount is 585£, if the insurance pay it is different. Now my insurance does not cover unlimited amont and there is a cap per year and I need to pay the extra. Day time rip off. They don't bother to tell you the cost beforehand.

I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed with the treatment you received. This was a treatment to an area, it was not a test. I can’t discuss the treatment on this forum as it is confidential to you, but should you wish to discuss your treatment further please email admin@derma.co.uk and we will get the doctor to respond.

Our self-pay prices are in line with what other dermatologists charge. We don't know what fees other clinics have negotiated with insurers, but I would expect that our fees to insurers are similar if not less than what other clinics charge, otherwise the insurers would not have agreed to them.

If patients are paying for themselves, we are very clear on our charges. We are the only medical clinic locally that we know of that goes so far as to put some of our charges on our website, and the doctors or admin team will provide more accurate fees whenever asked. Our quoted fees always include the clinic fees and doctor’s fees. We always send out an appointment letter that includes our fees, and states that there may be additional costs, including an idea of how much these may be.

However, for most insured patients the insurer pays for the treatment in full, so most people are not interested in the costs. The fees are determined and negotiated by the insurers. We bill according to their rules, so if the treatment is authorised, that our invoices will be settled in full, unless the patient has an excess to pay.

Unfortunately in your case it seems that with your policy there is a limit to the total amount the insurer will pay, so you may need to pay some of the fee yourself. As we had not advised you of the cost beforehand then if this exceeds your limit please let me know and I will see what we can do.

Called for an enquiry and was called…

**UPDATED REVIEW** On 02.03.21
Following my review I contacted Jon Clayton to resolve the matter and the issue has been dealt seriously making up for the poor initial service received on the day I called in.
I was seen by Dr Rima Clayton who is highly professional and advised me for different options in full transparency. This is driving me to change my review from 1 to 4 stars.

Called for an enquiry and was called back by a PA that was not listening at all to me while keep asking the same question over and over if I wanted to book an appointment. I explained that I wanted to enquire first if the symptom I had was part of the treatment offering. Very poor service and it’s a shame given the good reviews about the dermatologists

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry about the experience you had when you phoned Derma Reading. This is not what we expect your experience to be like, and I can only apologise.

Unfortunately we do not record telephone calls, so we cannot determine exactly what was said. However, what should happen when someone contacts us, as you did, asking to know whether a particular condition can be treated at Derma, is that we would ask you to write or email in with a brief explanation of your condition and we will show this to one of the dermatologists. Photos are also helpful. The dermatologist will provide a written response of whether they believe the condition can be treated at Derma, and, if requested, an estimate of the likely cost of treatment. It should be noted that this response will be their best guess and that only in the consultation will the right course of treatment be determined.

We have planned a training course for our admin staff in the near future a part of our ongoing effort to ensure that we are as courteous and helpful in our communications as possible. We accept we will not always get it right, as in your case, but we will strive to continually improve and do better.

With regards to your particular case, if you would like to email me personally, at jon.clayton@derma.co.uk, with a brief summary of your condition, I will show it to one of our dermatologists and respond to you directly.

Incredible reassuring clinic

Could not rate Dr Clayton and the clinic more highly - I was super anxious about something and had visited 3 dermatologists privately previously and still wasn’t reassured. Dr Clayton was extremely reassuring and empathetic and I’m extremely grateful. The clinic is beautiful and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming

Modern efficiency and professional treatment offered with kindness and care

Modern, spotless, attractive premises with a friendly welcome and efficient, professional care offered with warmth and kindness. Having attended for a cosmetic matter I was offered a full mole scan which I accepted and which led to the detection of a mole which required treatment. Professional advice was given and a recommendation to see my GP. The treatment for rosacea I was offered has been very successful and literally life changing for me.

My sons experience

Dr Clayton was always very pleasant at all her appointments. extremely kind and always put my son at ease considering he was a sixteen yr old teenager with skin problems.
From the moment of first contact via a telephone call Charlotte Bourne was so polite and friendly with such a calming manner about herself, nothing was ever too much for her to do.

The very best experience

I cannot rate this clinic highly enough. Admin could not have been more efficient and considerate with super quick responses and follow up to all my questions.
My actual consultation with Dr John Reed was excellent. He listened patiently to my medical history and concerns and subsequently explained his diagnosis and treatment in great detail. Prescribed treatment was immediately successful.
I am absolutely thrilled. Thank you.

Excellent service at this first - class clinic . Good value for money 😀

This is a fantastic clinic , I can’t recommend it highly enough . I attended this clinic with my husband in order to have our all moles ‘mapped’. What a high tech service this clinic offers , there is nowhere else quite like it! All my moles mapped by means of a series of body photos . No chance of missing anything . After the scans you get a top dermatologist, Dr Rima Clayton , looking personally at all your moles , advising you if any need treatment or just ‘watching’. Then you get a comprehensive report with a copy of all your photos . This is an excellent service and we intend attending every year . Thanks Derma Clinic !

Absolutely delighted!!

Absolutely delighted with all aspects of the service my daughter received. The new clinic is immaculate. All staff are polite & efficient. Dr Clayton explained everything clearly so my 12 year old daughter could understand. During her procedure to remove a cyst on her face she did a really wonderful job while chatting all the time to keep my daughter at ease. Everything is healing beautifully and it looks like there will be no scarring. Highly recommended!!!

Safe & Professional, excellent Customer Service!

I have attended Derma Clinic several times and found the whole experience very professional. From making my appointment, to seeing Dr Clayton and then receiving follow-up treatment, has been extremely stress free. There is plenty of parking, so no problems trying to find a space. It's clean and COVID safe.
I had skin tags removed and my moles looked at. Everything was explained to me, regarding the treatment and follow up process.

I recommend Dr Clayton! She is someone who puts you at ease, if you are a little nervous!

Very impressed!

I recently had an appointment at the new premises in Woodley and was most impressed. Parking, the premises, reception and clinic staff and accounts department were all excellent. Dr Clayton was extremely professional and approachable. I couldn't fault it and would highly recommend the practice.

My daughter attended an appointment…

My daughter attended an appointment with the doctor at Derma. The communication after the appointment has been absolutely appalling. My 12 year old was prescribed tablets that are unavailable to get hold of. My local doctor received no information of the appointment for him to be able to prescribe any medication. The PA clearly didn’t think it was important to get in contact to the point where I was just given a messages by there finance administrator that they had sourced the tablets and were waiting for me to collect at Bath road reception. After travelling 30 minutes across town the pharmacist said she had not received her prescription after standing in reception for another 30 minutes she managed to find the Oral solution which we already had not tablets which I had travelled to collect. The medication has never worked. I have emailed the consultant’s PA on many occasions and get no reply only letters asking for payment from the lady in finance who has always been very apologetic for the experience I have received. Complete waste of time £290 down and we are no further than we were when she saw our GP. I thought I was doing the best for my child by using this private service and have been absolutely appalled. Communication is always Key but it’s clearly not here. A letter of an apology was supposedly sent but never received to my home address. I have since received a phone call from the Dr my daughter saw after leaving this review who then put the phone down on me when I was trying to explain this was a lot of money for a service I was not satisfied with and which is my right to do so and I found this to be holy unprofessional.

Your appointment was not at Derma, it was at another hospital in Reading. Derma only opened on 1 October, and your appointment was in August.

That said, the doctor concerned is sorry that your experience didn’t match with your expectations. There are some things you mention that we can, and will, learn from, but there are a number of inaccuracies or omissions in your review that we would like to correct:

1. Your review omits to mention that you did not attend the appointment, your daughter attended with her grandmother. We agree that communication is key, and that is why the doctor went to great lengths in the appointment to explain to your daughter and her grandmother what the diagnosis was, and the treatment options appropriate to a child of her age. She also explained that unfortunately with this condition, treatments are not always effective (even surgery isn’t always effective). It is unfortunate that this does not appear to have been communicated back to you.
• We do understand that it can be difficult for parents to attend appointments due to work commitments, and therefore Derma Reading has now introduced evening appointments.

2. We emailed you and your GP two days after the appointment. For GDPR reasons we need to send emails securely and you therefore need to log on to a portal to read them, which you chose not to do. One of the team had shown you how to log on to the secure system and explained that all correspondence would be located in there. If logging on is problematic we can use other methods, but we need to know that you have had problems in order to be able to remedy them.
• At Derma patients can expect to receive a letter within a week, and so if you hadn’t heard from us within this timescale then we would normally hope that you would contact us.

3. You were contacted by our finance team as you hadn’t paid for your appointment. This contact was after the payment was long overdue, at which time you raised the issues regarding the communication and medication, which was the first we had heard of them. We then immediately resent the letter to your GP and yourself, phoned around and found the medication, albeit in oral solution, however when we informed you about this, we were unaware that you had already used the oral solution (which is as effective as in tablet form), but it had not worked. The medicine is currently not available in tablet form, so we will make sure the oral solution is prescribed in future.
• Derma now collects payments for medical appointments as patients leave, improving convenience for patients.

4. A letter was emailed to you on 23 October to explain the steps we had taken.
• Derma does not tend to post letters to patients unless they request them to be posted, as we are trying to reduce our paper consumption and communicate as quickly as possible. However we are very happy to post all letters to any patients that ask for them. We have since improved our communication around the use of the patient portal, which for many is a great tool as it allows them to view all their documents in one place.

5. Following your complaint, the doctor did try to phone you to explain the clinical decisions. As you did not accept this explanation, the doctor ended the conversation rather than allow things to escalate further.

We trust that if you were to visit Derma you would have a different experience, and we are sorry that your previous experience hasn’t met your expectations.

Recommending Derma skin clinic near Reading

Super clean, new-build clinic, easy to find with parking just outside Reading. I had the mole mapping service which was very thorough and carried out by a very pleasant lady. Once the photographs were finished, Dr. Clayton came in to review the images and ask me a couple of questions, and a report followed within a few days, then a link to my photos online which means I can cross check if I suspect any moles change. Dr Clayton was lovely, and very professional and the report was clear and concise. Would definitely recommend.
