Unnecessary customs delay because DHL ships from canada via USA to NL. Package may be lost

I ordered a shipment via a buy-for-me service and it was shipped via DHL Express and should arrive from Canada to The Netherlands in 5 days. When prompted I paid the import duties immediately and I paid more than 120 EUR for the shipment myself with the expectation that it would be delivered quickly. Unfortunately, this package has been held by US Customs and is not released for unknown reasons. This should not be happening, because I do not import or export anything in the US: port of entry is Canada and port of destination is NL. The hub in Cincinnati is only a transfer station. With all the additional costs of shipping and customs clearance it is a loss of over 600 EUR if the package is not arriving at all. I had a phone call about this today and the only response is that US Customs is a government agency over which DHL has no control or influence. A very easy response, considering the costs I paid for shipping. DHL could also inquire why it is being withheld and whether the procedure is correct. As a customer, I cannot be held responsible for DHL choosing to transport a package through its hub in Cincinnati. Something is terribly wrong here in my view.

I recently sent a parcel from Australia…

I recently sent a parcel from Australia to Kenya,although I thought there rates were a bit high $250 for a 5kg box (also the box they give you is unsuitable for packing too many items into as it is very shallow in depth yet they charge you for 5kg even though the total weight was only 3kg)The service from their Brisbane depot was very good,although you should check the details on the Waybill receipt are correct before leaving as they misspelt my receivers email address and incorrect phone number which proved very difficult to rectify and caused alot of inconvenience when it arrived in Kenya.
I sent the package on a Saturday and it arrived in Kenya on Thursday night which I was very happy about, but that's when all the troubles began. My recipient signed up on the website to receive notifications and updates regarding the tracking where she also updated her correct phone number and email address and nominated to pick up the package from a local dhl branch as delivering to a private address is very complicated there. The first update we both received by text message was saying there needed to pay Vat and import taxes and to get in contact with the dhl office there in Nairobi, this was Friday afternoon, my recipient tried to contact someone to find out how much these fees were, after several calls but not until Monday morning did we find out the fees amounted to 27,000 khs which is roughly $350 Australian, so all up it cost $600 to send a package valued at $850,after numerous enquiries how they worked out the fees with no adequate answers we just paid it. Thinking everything was sorted out now and expecting it to be delivered within the next day or 2 at the latest, it took another 5 days to get it,with more drama and incompetence.
Dhl passed on the package to a third party delivery agent, while having the correct phone number and email details now, Dhl never bothered to change them before passing on the package to the next delivery agent or notifying us who the agent was, also completely disregarding the instructions to take it to the nominated dhl office location where my recipient was to collect it from,resulting in the agent trying to deliver it to her home address which proved futile because he had the incorrect phone number to get in contact with her to get directions and information. After many phone calls and going to the nominated pick-up office as requested we finally tracked down were the package was with the other agent,he informed my recipient that he had attempted to deliver it for the past 3 days to her home address but couldn't find her apartment number (using a bit of commonse by asking at the caretaker office would have given him the information) So after finally tracking down the driver on the Friday afternoon and having to meet up with him along the road at a location far away from her home or the dhl office she received the package. So in what should have been a simple process turned out to be a stressful ordeal because of incompetence and laziness by both delivery companies involved. The only reason I am giving 2 and a half star rating is the support I received from the Australian Brisbane office and the time it only took to get from Australia to Kenya half way around the world in 4 days without any complications It's a pity it took another 8 days from the time it arrived in Nairobi Kenya to get it when it should have been 2 days at the most.

Dreadful communications

A parcel not addressed to me or my address has been left on my doorstep. The address is not even local to me! I cannot get thru to DHL express on any of their supposed ‘get in touch’ facilities to redirect. The phone cuts off every time I call. What happened to great customer service.

I don't see why people write negative…

I don't see why people write negative reviews about this company. They never fail wrt having to call them proactively to find out what happened. They will not bother you if not - a plus in this nudging-age. I consider them a good free storage for stuff you don't have room for yet. IF you by accidence violate corporate mission and actually want your stuff, I do recommend: 1) Call them. 2) Stay on the phone 3) Wait for someone - if they're at work that particular day - to help you 4) NEVER ask them to try to redeliver - if their storage place is within 6000 miles, it's faster and a lot less frustrating - just to walk there and get it - if they do have it where they told you it was. Free storage - just saying

Don't honour pickups

Don't honour pickups! Always make a big song and dance of having me give all my packages to them, but then they don't collect. Service becomes rubbish on times. It's like many of them don't have the level of education to write correct English or even comprehend what the problem is.

It's been 2 months and they have my parcel with them. I think they have stolen my parcel and playing games.
Their agents don't have updates.
An agent from them reply me every Friday for an update and then drag till next Friday. It's been 2 months like this. I have even tweeted regarding this issue. But no one is ready to take action.

They don't even call us and update regarding parcel. They return tell us that it's my responsibility to take an update.

DHL india ??? Are u serious? Is this your customer service?? An agent named Nithin from clearance support agent , banglore has kept my parcel from 2 months.

There are 100 mails and all regarding dumb updates. Why don't they all give it at once ?

Get legal advice

I have tried contacting this company on numerous occasions to find out where my package has gone? After several attempts via email ( as you can’t speak to human), I’ve still not received a reply!! I was contacted by them to pay a £92 import charge, which I did but still nothing. I believe they’ve pocketed the money and the iPhone ( which was in the parcel). Absolutely disgusted with them. Please do not use this company. Luckily for me I have someone in the legal profession who is going to take this case up for me

Terrible

Terrible, they contact me to say my parcel will be delivered between 10am and 2pm. I wait, they never appear, so I go out at 4pm, and they attempt a delivery at 4.30! I rearrange the delivery for next day at 10 am - 1pm, do they show up? No.

I try to call, no human I can talk to. FRUSTRATING

Didnt even try to deliver the parcel

First the parcel was suppose to come on the 21st of july, but they sent me an email saying nobody's at home, but my dad was at home the entire day, so i rearranged it to 24th of july same thing happened. Then on the 26th july at around 1pm, i calldd customer support. First time it 'disconnected'. so i had to call anyother time. Then called again, a man in his 20s answered, he was nice, and arranged the order to come 28th july pre 10:30am.

So then my dad waited at home again, and i received a messafe on my dhl app saying its been sent to the collection depot. And haven't been delivered. THEN ON THE EMAIL I GOT A MESSAGE SAYING DELIVERY DRIVER GOT NO ACCESS TO THE HOUSE.

Never use DHL express for parcel.

Cost me £30,000 avoid at all costs!

My passport was away with a client to have a visa applied, it was sent back but the couriers inability to read an address or the door numbers meant the posted the passport to the wrong address.

I finally found where the passport had been posted and unfortunately the person was away on holiday.

By the time I recovered my passport I had lost my contract which cost me £30,000!! Understandably I was not happy

I called customer services which cost me a further £20 in calls only to receive what was a poor grovelling apology. Despite proof they had cost me £30,000 in lost contracts they did not seem concerned.

Avoid this shower of clowns, they will never hold themselves to account for their incompetent services!!

Long time problem solving

DHL charged wrong duty and VAT on children books arrived from EU, after phone call took it off but second week could not take it from the system. Every time I call they say it should be off during 24-48 hours and out for delivery but never did and still asking for the payment in the system. 5 days ago courier delivered books but took it back because of this issue and just wrote that nobody was in but I was and he was talking to me. Than I asked to give me phone number to talk with a DEPO where is my parcel nobody gave this phone number but also could not contact themselves as nobody answered. It was very big mistake use these company as delivery courier. If you have a choice then better use another one. Only one plus, people in customer service are very polite.

One star is really too high for this…

One star is really too high for this company. I am at my wits end trying to get a parcel out of them, which was sent to me from Switzerland. They have charged me the wrong import VAT figure and will not correct it. Two calls to them have cost me hugely - they only give (massively costly) premium numbers for contact support so beware if you have to call them - do not use the 0844 number - so I have spent a fortune and not got anywhere. I have already asked the shipper in Switzerland never to use them again as this reflects on him and I will in future always insist on a carrier that does not use DHL. Believe me, this is the very, very worst company to deal with, with the very worst customer support service. By the way, all of you guys who complain about their customer service, did you check how much it cost you to try and sort things out with them? Probably best that you don't! Anyway, if you do not want to get very upset, do not use them. As I say, it is upsetting to even give them one star.

Avoid

Avoid. Not only this service is next to nothing, i smell some racism here too. Sent the package that i ordered back to sender because i have a russian name. While i chatted with them they hanged it all on a global sanctions.. I live in Sweden since 1998 and i am swedish citizen... 100 swedish kronors down the drain, thank you very much. Never again.

No such thing as a courier anymore just lazy men in vans

I don't know if my area just gets the laziest most useless "couriers" in the country but I'm absolutely sick of you all, DHL, evri and yodel absolutely useless, every time I get stuck with you you never bother coming up the stairs or attempt to look for my address and then say the order was REFUSED, absolutely disgusting service your a joke.

Slow delivery compared to other…

Slow delivery compared to other couriers. It seems like they don't have any good connections out of Singapore to Australia so if you live here I suggest to look at using Fedex or others that are much faster.

I have two consecutive examples of the slowness over the last few weeks so it's not a once off experience.

This has been the worst experience I have had with a delivery company, even worse than Hermes. I returned a parcel at their recognised parcel shops. The parcel from what I can gather was not scanned in correctly, however it could still be tracked. After several weeks, I contacted them, as it had still not arrived at the destination. After a lot of faffing about, they informed me that they had lost my parcel, and a claim needed to be made. Because I returned the item with the company’s label, I could not make the claim. I informed the company to do so, but 5 months later I have still not received a refund, as DHL are denying them the claim, even though they are liable, and I have provided all of the evidence to prove this. I have contacted them numerous times regarding this( costing a small fortune) but have been constantly cut off, or not given a proper resolution. I have asked for the CEO details, but nobody will provide them to me. Therefore I am still £162 out of pocket, and stressed out due to contacting them all the time.
