Disgusting Service From Dickmanns

I booked through DoYouSpain and I am absolutely disgusted at how I and other people were treated at the Valencia office. I cannot understand how DYS continue to use this shambolic and rude company. I have used several car hire companies in the past and never had any problems but my experience of using Dickmanns was awful. When I arrived there was only one staff checking cars in and out so I had to wait around for over an hour in the scorching heat, when I did finally get to talk to a member of staff the car I had hired and paid for was not available, the staff member tried to fob me off with a smaller cheaper car but I refused as I could not fit my family and luggage in the smaller car. I had to wait for a car to be returned before I could eventually leave for my holiday. The staff are rude and their organisation is a shambles. When I arrived to return the car the gate to their property was shut and no staff were on site. This company is an absolute joke, I contacted the info email address to make a complaint and I have included their response below, I think their response says it all!

Sorry that I did not understand, that first of all you wanted a generalized and little meaning “ dear Mr King, please apologize for the sufferings you had”. I understood you – sorry
Again for misunderstanding you - that you wanted a solution.
I responded to you that the issues regarding the treatment of you and the details of the hire – at which I was not present- have been handed over to the
Valencia manager who will check this up and respond to you with the corresponding information and the resulting apologies.

I assumed you would read the email until the very end and see that I am the person in charge and senior manager, sorry to defraud you by being a woman.

Is Do you Spain part of this scam?

I have used DYS for several years, and mostly been happy. Just recently, I rented a car through Dickmans, offered through DYS. I assumed, wrongly, that DYS, do the proper quality check. It was the worst renting experience ever. Then I went into Trust Pilot, and saw that 100 people have had the same horrible experience, basically having the car rental company overcharge around 1000 Euros from the bank account. This leads me to believe there must be some corrupt relations between staff at DYS and this criminal company called Dickmanns. I am sorry, "Claire". If you really care about your customers, you would not expose them to such criminals. I see from the Trust Pilot reviews that many of the complainers have contacted DYS to resolve the Dickman credit card fraud. Still you keep marketing them to well intended clients? Shame on you!

Corrupt

Hired through DYS in June, like lots of others still await the return of my deposit. Despite numerous calls and unanswered emails they do not have the courtesy to reply.
This is now in the hands of DYS who say Dickmans have mislaid my details and require the details to refund, a bizzare excuse to hold onto my money for a little longer. I find the tactics used underhand and dishonest and urge you not use this corrupt company

HORRENDOUS

We hired first time of this awful company in early June, wish we had read reviews beforehand but trusted the broker who we have used previously. The hire car cost 44 euros great price , we returned it and lady at ALICANTE airport said everything was fine and the car had been returned in same condition as when we picked it up. A few days later Dickmanns took €1048 off our card which came straight out of our bank account , this was on 21st June 2016 over 4 weeks ago, 7 phone calls later and we still have not had a refund , when calling you just get rude aggressive staff who tell you it will be refunded but give no timescale. This is a lot of money, OUR money that Dickmanns have and we have no idea when it will be refunded. DO NOT RENT FROM DICKMANNS this is 2016 and brokers should not be using this company. We are now considering legal action

Disgusting and Unexpected hidden charges

My car hire was contracted to Dickmanns car hire through Atlas
I have used Dickmanns before and had concerns regarding their method of securing the excess insurance premium because what happens with Dickmans is not the norm because they immediately charge your credit card with the full amount this being the exorbitant charge for full tank of fuel €98 (normal with all car hire) plus immediately to your credit card the €910 for the excess this means that you pay the sterling conversion % charge on the full amount plus the same when hopefully you are refunded, this amounts to a staggering £50.
During the hire period I was also subject to £/€ currency fluctuations which could have increased the charge by another £100 had Stirling continued to strengthen
Also because ones card bill was calculated soon after the car hire period was completed I was faced with an outstanding bill of over £750 which have had to pay to avoid interest charges
So all in all this car hire has turned into an expensive exercise for me and although the car was returned in perfect order some 28 DAYS AGO the excess refund has still to be made
I dropped the keys into secure box on mobile office (more like a burger van) at 09:30 as there was no staff working this always raises concern with me because a mutual agreement on condition of returned vehicle has not been made
I have e mailed atlas and their response to my complaint has been pretty dismal the emphasis in there response being that they may not be able to do anything and that I should take it up myself with Dickmanns which brings their credibility into question and I have asked that they compensate me for the £50 exchange % loss I will use neither of these companies again STAY CLEAR

Dreadful experience - avoid this company!

Do not book with this company!!
We are regular travellers and have used numerous other companies with no issues.
Had to wait over an hour for the shuttle bus to collect the car
Actually debited deposit from credit card and took 3 weeks to return it - we incurred over £50 transaction fees.
Accused us of damaging the bumper - we nearly missed our return flight arguing that we hadn't

Worst experience ever!

We have been home from our holiday in Spain for over a month and the deposit (£850) has still not been returned. There was no damage to the car and no reason for them to hold our deposit. When you try to phone the contact numbers, nobody answers and you just get cut off. We found another number to call (which is the number they give you in case you cannot find the collection minibus) and they answered, were incredibly rude and said it can take up to 28 working days. We explained that we desperately needed the money back because it is our living expense for the month and they made out like they couldn't care less. The reason they keep your money for so long is because they make money off the money that you give them and get the interest for the month they keep your money. Absolutely disgusted and won't be going near this place again. Please do not use them!!!! I have used several car hire companies in Alicante and this is by far the worst. Terrible service, stealing money from people and just very, very rude people.

Dickmans Car Hire don't give a damn, nor do DoYouSpain!

Have experienced the same as everybody else on here, 950€ deducted from credit card and waiting over 6 weeks for it to be returned. I have now complained to DoYouSpain but to no avail, Claire Davis the DYS 'Head of Customer Happiness' doesn't respond to my concerns and complaint, so why is she given a title which doesn't truly reflect her role? My gripe is DYS offer car insurance which is cheaper than the car rental companies, but when you turn up at Dickmans, they say the DYS insurance is worthless, and if you do not take their insurance they will debit your card for 950€'s. This is unacceptable because DYS customers have bought their insurance in good faith, to be then told by a DYS supplier it is not worth anything and then double charged (this is incorrect by the way because the DYS insurance is fully compliant in Spain!). I believe the only the only way this will get sorted is if people book through other companies other than Dickmans and DYS, maybe then Claire might understand that her customers are truly unhappy and she might actually start undertaking what her job role states.
Can I say, I have used DYS for over 10 years without any issues, and Dickmans for the last 4 years, it has only been during 2016 where the change in policy has kicked in - it is hurting my pocket so I am unhappy!!

Thank You Trust Pilot and sorry to those unfortunate people who left reviews.

I would like to firstly say thank you (and sorry) to all of the unfortunate people who had to experience disgusting service and daylight robbery, it is due to your unfortunate situations that i was lucky enough to avoid dealings with Dickmanns.

I too ended up with a booking with Dickmanns through Do You Spain, the original deal seemed too good to be true. -- That was the Red Flag –

My Partner took the time to Google Dickmanns and found this Trust Pilot review page where we read all the shocking and jaw dropping unfortunate experiences other people had with Dickmanns.

the first thing i tried to do was swap my booking but to do this would have cost a lot more, after many emails to DYS expressing my concern they reassured me that they were aware of this situation and were working on a resolution. I felt a little reassured by this and left the booking.

It wasn’t until i emailed Dickmanns directly and asked them about their refund policy that i got the following reply Quote ->"Hi, The deposit will be for a normal car will be a 950€ and it will take about 28 working days after the returning the car" unquote.

It became very obvious to me that there was no change and probably won’t be any change to their deposit Terms and Conditions.

As most of you have unfortunately experienced, Dickmanns have a Cash Cow policy with regards to the deposit scheme that makes them extra money, while the customers are the ones who pay the penalty and extra credit card charges.

All I can wish is that people will see this Trust Pilot site before booking with Dickmanns, or that DYS reviews its list of rental companies in the near future before the poor Dickmanns reviews cause people to book with other car rental comparison sites just to avoid experiences like these.

In the meantime any future rentals on DYS will be thoroughly vetted and I will make sure that Dickmanns is not selected in the list of suppliers on DYS.

Disgraceful practice

I wish I had seen this forum before I too got caught by Dickmanns. Hired a car from Alicante for 3 weeks, returning it on 28th April 2016. Like other posters, my credit card was debited 950€ against insurance loss, and I was told by the rep when processing the transaction that it would be repaid within 2 weeks of the car being returned. The deposit has actually been repaid TODAY, 51 days later. I had contacted Dickmanns on several occassions, but they never replied. I also contacted Doyouspain, who apparently got in touch with Dickmanns, but still nothing. In addition, they charged me 95€ for a tank of fuel for a Ford Fiesta. When I filled up the tank from empty during the holiday, It only took 48€ to fill to the brim. I know there is a refuelling charge, but they really are taking the p×ss. I have used this comany several times over the years, but never again....totally dishonest.

Refund delays may mean credit risk

Like many reviewers on this site, we have just experienced a long delay in getting a refund. Unlike many car rental firms, Dickmanns actually charge the €950 deposit to your credit card account, so delays can lead to the Card Company charging interest. Such delays are also often a sign of cash flow problems - if the company goes bust you may loose the deposit. Best avoided!

Make sure you read all these reviews...I wish I had! Still waiting for the 950 Euros refund just like everyone else from this absolutely disgraceful company! Never, ever, ever again!

PS I have also signed the petition, suggest everyone else does too instead of just accepting you have been scammed?

Shocking and disgusting service, My Father who is almost 80 hired a car from Dickmans online, he was told to contact them on arrival at Alicante airport to be collected and taken to the car hire company to collect the car, he was told by the Dickmans rep on the phone to wait 10 minutes, after 30 minutes he phoned them again and was told "we asked you to wait 10 minutes" My Father explained that he had already waited 30 minutes, the rep then started to scream at him down the phone and slammed the phone down leaving my Father stranded without a hire car at the airport, this is appalling service and everybody needs to be warned.

I wouldn't even give 1 star!!!

Awful awful company!! Rude, thieving ********!!!!!!!
Do not use them!!! Especially if you want a car seat. They showed us to a shed with a torch and told us to pick one for our 6 month old.
Dirty, unsafe car seats that saw better days in the 90s! I wouldn't even strap a dog in them!!
Rude guys who work there!! Ruined our holiday at the beginning at end!!! Charged us 40 euros for early return charge when airport was 2 mins away and there was someone there!! No call outs needed!!!
I can't complain enough!!!

If i could give this 0 stars i would!

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!
Please do not rent with this company! They are the true definition of scammers! Will take a huge deposit of your card and then not refund you.
I have emailed and called non stop for the past 35 days to try and get my money back but they never get back to you and the awful woman in customer service just keeps fobbing everyone off.
They may seems like a cheap option but its not worth it at all!
I would never rent from them again and it has totally put me off using Do You Spain in the future.

Never ever use this company you will regret it! Be warned!

A total shambles. They rip customers off by taking 950 euros deposit against damage and then take 6 weeks or more to give you your money back! They are so unprofessional and are not based inside the airport but in a car park outside and operate out of a clapped out van! Never ever use them also use a major company like Goldcar who only hold an authorisation on your card against damage and never take the money. I will never use them again and rue the day I thought I'd try them. Don't waste your time and money. They work out more expensive when you take all the fees into account and the fact you might never get your money back!

I should have learnt from 4yrs ago!

I have twice used Dickmanns and now both times have had issues. The first time it took 9 months for my credit card company to resolve.

This time, instead of placing a hold on my credit card for a damage excess, they took 950E.
On returning the car, they signed the agreement that it was OK.
They returned the cost of the fuel, but are not returning the excess.
I have paid my credit card bill, and are now paying interest and fees.
