Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 75 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers report significant issues with the platform's user experience, including problems with reactions not counting, profiles being inaccessible, and general frustration with the app's functionality. The customer service is frequently described as non-existent, with users struggling to get human support for hacked accounts, bans, or other critical issues, often receiving only automated responses. People also express dissatisfaction with the website and app, citing numerous bugs, a cluttered interface, and difficulties with basic functions like account deletion or login. Some people were satisfied with the platform, finding it a great communication tool for various groups and appreciating its features like Nitro subscriptions and its superiority over other communication apps. However, a significant number of users also report being unfairly banned or having their accounts disabled without clear reasons or human review, leading to loss of connections and communities.

Great gamming voice chat

Discord is my favourite app to use while gamming. I get to hang out with friends, share in-game moments through posting pictures or watch my friend play through a share screen feature. Perfect for communities of any size. Only downside is the stream quality, which only gets better after purchasing discord Nitro.

All I want to do is log in and I can't…

All I want to do is log in and I can't even do that.
Fail to login on laptop it didn't work at all.
Ok I'll try phone browser on discord.
Captcha like x2 so hard that I kept on failing them due to poor quality pics being used.
After finally passing it. It comes up and say this is the first time you've logged in using this device. Omg no its not. Waiting for an email 20 minutes later. Still not here.
This discord login is so bad.
As soon as I log in my account is gonna be deleted. Shocking site to use. Not worth my time.

Great updates, amazing platform

I love Discord - this platform is one of my most used social media companies, and I have online friends met through Discord who I get on really, really well with - I have to thank Discord for this!

The new updates, revolving mainly around better moderation for server moderators, are also really cool! I also am a bot developer (of a verified bot) and have found Discord to be a great platform for coding bots on/for - the developer community is great!

Although I have occasionally had slow responses in regards to general question support enquiries, my previous user reports and bug reports have been dealt with promptly and efficiently, and I have seen actions being taken against accounts I have reported for breaking the rules!

And their social media team is probably one of my favourites of all social media companies - especially on the Discord YouTube Channel!

I do hear of malicious, bad people being on the platform, however, this is true of the majority of large social media platforms, and it's how they deal with it that matters. In Discord's case, they do seem to take action against valid reports against malicious or bad accounts in most cases (when there is message proof). Their transparency reports regarding moderation are also very helpful!

Thanks, Discord!

If this were 2016

If this were 2016, I would be giving Discord 5 stars.

I have never used such a non secure, violating server platform in my life. Not to mention, the discord community is so vile and disrespectful. Whenever I'm on a game and I join a random server to potentially game with people, I've been called racial slurs, I've heard sexist remarks, and much much more offensive content and language. Whenever I've tried to report these people to Discord, they never get back to me and never have anything to say.

I would not recommend Discord.

Pay to win features & horrible support

I've been an avid user of Discord since November of 2015. I've seen the platform change from a very promising platform to one of the worst platforms I've experienced, and not due to the users!

Starting with my experience with support, I've never had a good experience. Issues ranged from downright incompetence, extremely delayed wait times, inconsistent replies, or sometimes even no reply at all. This experience is further frustrating when I've lost 2 accounts so far to false bans, with no way to appeal.

Next, as I've said, I've been here a while. There was a time before their subscription-based service "Discord Nitro" was a thing. Now, I understand a company needs to make money, but this is ridiculous. 85% of their "Server Boosting" perks are what I'd classify as paywalling features. When Nitro initially came out, we were told that core features would never be locked. Now: animated emoji, server banners, private threads, stickers, multiple profiles, and more are locked behind either Nitro or boosting. There's debate over whether these are "core" or not, but I'd consider anything we get 0% of for free to be "core." Now, there are some legitimate features that are fair that Nitro has them, like a bump in file upload size, stream quality, server count, etc, anything that heightens load. But everything else is just overkill, and is making the platform worse as a whole.
Even worse is that now, custom invite links are just begging to be purchased, which costs $38/mo at least. This is, by far, the scummiest feature to paywall in my opinion.

Overall, Discord as a platform has been a horrible experience, and I hope competitors step up and help Discord realize they need to be better. Being at the top should not give you a pass to be horrible and scummy.

Locks features behind paywall

Locks features behind paywall and shoves them in your face. also tracks users and will ban them according to their intentions which aren't always clear. I rate it 2/5 because they have a lot of customizations and have a still quite featurefull service.

It's alright

It's alright, I don't like that they are trying to force bot developers to implement slash commands and I also don't like that classic nitro users are left out of things.

But it is what it is, I use it daily and it works.

Lack care, empathy, or quality customer support like they advertise

Unfortunately, very disappointing customer and user Services. They lack care, empathy, or quality customer support like they advertise, even if you pay them for months. I'm the guy who is in the community for years and have been paying for a nitro sub non-stop and I have sent out a bunch of emails recently about a personal problem I have experienced and no one seemed to really care. Its frustrating and disappointing really, considering Discord's size and influence as a company. Should follow the example of others, even smaller companies as soon as possible.
