Dispute refused for 15 days

Dispute refused for 15 days. I had a membership postponed due to financial hardship. The company reinstated my membership without my permission. I sent them an email explaining, financial hardship was reason for postponing membership. I received an email cancelling membership and a number to call for a refund. No one picks up the number so I called Discover to dispute the charges. I was told to call back once pending status goes through. I call back, now I am told that I have to wait 15 days to see if a refund goes through. No refund will go through because I can't get ahold of them. I have done disputes and never had to deal with this situation. With Discover knowing that no refund has been processed, they refuse to start a dispute, I have to wait 15 business days. Not fair, never had this done before, Horrible Customer Service. Extremely Disappointed with Discover.

Discover's Fraud Unit Sucks!!!

We have been with Discover for nearly 40 years, but today was a horrible experience. We were notified by Ticketmaster that their massive data breach resulted in our credit card information being for sale on the dark web. I immediately phoned Discover's "fraud" department with the intention to have our credit card number changed. I was told by a very poorly trained "fraud specialist" that since there has been no fraud yet, I only need to call the credit bureaus! WHAT??? That was the worst advice I could have received from a "fraud specialist!" Someone should advise a customer to call the credit bureaus when their Discover card number is being sold on the dark web? That's just NUTS! She refused to issue a new card number for us, so I called back and got a different person who immediately shut down our old number and issued a new number. Easy fix to ease our minds about our credit card number potentially being used for fraudulent purposes. However, we do now have SERIOUS concerns about continuing a business relationship with Discover.

Avoid DISCOVER at all cost!

DISCOVER is not a DECENT company. After everything, they just vehemently closed my credit card without any reason. Like, seriously? This isn’t a prank nor a joke by the way. You can’t just ruin someone’s credit card just because you suddenly wake up one day and had a random thought of closing some credit cards.

They have been charging me 9.99 a month for years for Microsoft X-box which I never signed up for or even know what it is! I disputed it and they gave me a very large refund then all of a sudden they took it all back, said Microsoft showed I signed up for it, I signed up for Microsoft 365 but no X-box but the security department at Discover didn't bother to check further, their a bunch of thieves. probably getting a kick back from Microsoft!

Discover is horrible company with horrible customer service. They don’t protect their customers at all. They allowed a Store to take $7000 from me. I was getting my car done at Ceramic Pro and the technician did not complete the job at all. Discover would not get my money back. Do not use Discover. They are not a good company.

I absolutely hate discover

I absolutely hate discover. I have reached a point in which I don’t know what to do.

2 months ago, I applied for an Secured Credit card, in the hopes to improve my credit score. I signed up on Credit Karma and got approved. When signing up, I clicked the button to deposit $100 into the account. I remember clearly there was an option to click:

-$100
-$200
-$300
-$400

I have even gone back through the process to make sure. Within the hour, I received an email saying that Discover was requesting to withdraw $1000 from my bank account. I immediately called discover telling them I could not afford putting $1000 into the card. The teller was kind and basically told me that I would have to call my bank to stop all payments from discover. I did so and within 3 days, the money had still been withdrawn. I called multiple times and was told that I would have to wait until the card came in, then cancel it, and request my refund. I waited a week until the card arrived, canceled the card, and was told I would receive a check in the mail within a week. It has now been two and a half months and I have yet to receive my money back. I am BEYOND LIVID. None of the employees are on the same page and I have been given a lot of wrong information by almost every employee. Here is a basic outline of my experience:

1- waited a week on check
2- called a week later after not receiving check and I was told to wait another week.
3- waited another week and didn’t receive refund. Called again and was told that whoever told me that was wrong and that I would have to wait two months until I could receive a refund. I then asked to have it expedited and they approved.
4- I was told I’d have to wait a month to receive the money.
5- I waited a month and STILL DID NOT RECEIVE THE MONEY.
6- I called again and was told that I would have to wait ANOTHER month in order to request a refund, which would ultimately be a direct deposit into my account.

I waited another month and I have called. I was able to give the teller my information and was approved for a direct deposit refund. The lady told me I would receive my money within 3-5 days.

It has now been five days and NOTHING.

I called today and was told that the teller gave me wrong information and that I would receive the refund within 16 days. Then, they proceeded to tell me that if I didn’t receive my refund, to give it another month until I could request another one. I am FED up.

As a college student that works full time in order to survive and can barely make it, this has SEVERELY impacted my ability to pay for basic human needs and bills. I am so upset and I greatly recommend that no one ever use discover.

Making this post is something that is way out of my comfort zone, but I am genuinely at a loss for words. I don’t know what else to do.

Pretty good for awhile, but a major collapse is soon

They have been pretty good for the last 20 years, right up until the day they were bought by Capital One. Now they can't be bothered to add my wife to my account, allow basic functions (like transfer) and many other problems. The usually helpful customer representatives have apparently been castrated and no longer able to provide even basic useful information. I'd run at this point like I'm doing.

If I can give the company a zero

If I can give the company a zero, I would! Record keeping, phone conversation, form application and online services are so bad! You can apply online on any account - be it IRA, banking, etc, but it's not guaranteed that your application will be processed or accepted! Really screwed me up big time! Then they'll send the application via email mail that takes 10 days. You can upload the file but it's not going to be guaranteed acceptable! Customer response is like 5-10 days so by then everything is very late. Customer service or supervisors will never accept their issues or even phone conversations. So it's best to put everything including correspondence documented. So I will not deal with them and closing my accounts. Go with Ally bank fast and superb services.

Discover Card experience

Had a discover secured card for 2 year used it paid it on time carried 0 balance when I closed it. Lost job had to bank7 on other debts but since my balance was always paid with discover. I was in good standing. Apparently I recently decided to see about getting a discover card again. They declined me and don’t offer a reason other than I had an account prior with satisfactory payments. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Definitely not a company to patronize.

Terrible resolution and customer service

I disputed fraudulent charges and they told me the charges were mine. After many calls to the Discover and the company at which the charges were made, I was told that Doscover based this 'confirmation' if charges on information that is public record and which even a bad hacker can find (name and mailing address).

Needless to say I paid for someone else's fraudulent activity on the account and I could not get it reversed.

Secondly, after updating my mailing address months ago, I have been attempting to close my accounts and they keep telling me they don't have my current address because mail was returned. How is that my fault when I have emailed them the address as well as confirmed it was correct on my account profile just don't do it. Save yourself time and the risk of paying for fraudulent charges to your account because someone has your name and address. I have never experienced such a lackadaisical fraud protection team in my life.

Great Experience With Discover

I have had the Discover secured card and a Discover Cash back checking Checking Account for a few years now and after a period of showing that I am fiscally responsible they refunded my security deposit for my secured card and raised my limit exponentially. I also get 1% cash back on all of my purchases which may not seem like a lot but if you use your card 100 times a week like I do it adds up quick. Discover has also come to my aid when I have dealt with fraudulent and even questionable unauthorized charges having recently refunded me $102 provisionally even before the issue was fully investigated and or resolved. It is also a huge bonus that discover has exclusively US based customer service available 24 hours a day 7 days a week with very short if any wait times. I have had multiple credit cards and still do and
I have had multiple secured credit cards and I still have one and I've had multiple checking and savings accounts over the years. And so far, I have had less hassles with Discover than any of them. And trust me, I'm not one to give out compliments very easily. People and companies have to earn them. They have had very responsive customer service using both their online portal and also by phone with very short response times. I do see all the negative reviews but I truly believe that if there were issues with Discover in the past they have most definitely made an effort to resolve them and earn your trust and business. And no, I don't work for them or anything of the sort. I'm just a commercial parts driver for a fortune 200 company. An average nobody that works and saves hard.

A Zero Star review

I recently had the most astonishingly terrible customer service experience with Discover, and I feel compelled to share my story to warn others about the shocking lack of empathy and assistance I encountered.

Despite being in the Executive Office of Customer Advocacy, Joseph and the Discover team openly acknowledged their ability to address a late payment issue but callously declared they were "unwilling" to do so. This response, or lack thereof, left me questioning if their role truly encompasses advocating for the consumer.

The complete disinterest in resolving my concerns reflected poorly on Discover's commitment to its customers. It is abundantly clear that they have zero regard for their customers as individuals. This has undeniably been the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered.

I want to emphasize that I will not rest until this unfortunate experience with Discover's customer service is widely known. It is my responsibility to ensure that others are made aware of the lack of support and empathy they may encounter as Discover customers.

Discover's handling of my situation has been nothing short of a disgrace, and I implore others to reconsider choosing them for their financial needs. No customer should be subjected to such callous treatment, especially when it could have been a straightforward matter for them to do the right thing.

I've used Discover CC for 15+ years and savings account recently.

I've used discover cc for maybe 15 years, and have only used the high interest savings for a month or so. I've never had any issues and customer service is as good as any. I do not have a secured card and that seems to be an issue for many. Their savings rate is currently 4.3%. There are some places higher but research them as many seem to have lots of issues.

Discover Home Equity Loan Aplplication

I applied for a home equity home from Discover Home Loans. I disclosed to the loan officer that at the beginning of application there was a current loan on my home because I knew it would not appear on my credit report. After I had sent in all my documents, I was told that I did not qualify for the loan because I had skipped a payment for one month. I had made 12 monthly payments that year however I had some difficult in the month of August so that payment was missed. The company that I had the loan with didn't indicate the late payment on my credit report. I was never told prior to sending in all the documents that one late payment would disqualify me from getting the loan. I informed the loan officer prior to any documents being sent that another loan was on the property. I don't feel I should have been disqualified for one late payment especially since I informed the representative about the loan prior to sending in any documents. I never received any statement stating this prior to application of the loan that a late payment would disqualify me from getting a loan. Additionally, when I spoke with a supervisor, he stated there is no written statement available. I feel this is an unfair practice on the part of Discover that is used to selectively disqualify certain applicants.

Replying to this review

Replying to this review: the exact SAME thing happened to me. I opened the card to build credit and it ended up ruining my credit because they of course close and report it. They sent me the notice that they needed a different address on the SAME DAY of the deadline which didn't even give me time to provide the information they needed. I cannot believe credit card companies are allowed to do this.

Another corrupt credit card company.
Another corrupt credit card company. I opened an account and had it for about 1 year. I never had a missed payment. I then received a letter in the mail from the IRS, stating I needed to verify my identity. I completed the form in it's entirety with current information, next thing I know the account is closed and reported to the credit bureaus. I called about it, and because I provided my current address and not the address that was on file in the previous tax year, the account was closed with no option to re-open yet of course I still owe the entire balance, etc.
