The call was a little bit delayed, but in the end I've received satisfying feedbacks

It is a very good union. The union representatives are very professional and enthusiastic. When I had a conflict with my supervisor during my doctoral studies, the union representative, lawyer Sarah Rosenkrands, showed very strong professionalism and love. She was helpful and actively fought for all the rights she could for me. I think all doctoral students in Denmark must join the DM union if they have the conditions.

I have been a loyal member of DM for four/ five years in total, paying my membership fees, but didn't need any help from them. However, when I recently encountered a serious problem at work, the union's response was shockingly inadequate.

1. The staff were unresponsive and unfriendly, often taking an unreasonably long time to reply to my inquiries.
2. Despite the gravity of my situation, no one at DM took the time to fully understand the details of my case. Instead of evaluating my circumstances and offering targeted, meaningful solutions, I was given generic feedback. The primary advice I received was simply to "leave and find another job." This is not the kind of guidance I expect from a labor union that is supposed to advocate for its members.
3. I consulted with two different DM representatives, and both suggested that I abandon my efforts to address the issue and seek other employment elsewhere. When I escalated my concerns through a formal complaint, a DM manager dismissed my grievances, claiming that no wrongdoing had occurred on their part, and then ignored my further messages.
4. My experience with DM has been that they are uninterested in doing the essential work of advocating for their members' rights.
5. By contrast, a friend of mine who faced a similar situation at work received comprehensive support from her union - not DM of course. Her union representatives went so far as to meet with her employer and negotiate on her behalf—something DM never even attempted to do for me.
6. In summary, the staff at DM have been unsupportive, indifferent, and apathetic. This is a far cry from the proactive, empathetic attitude one should expect from a labor union.

If you're considering joining DM, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. When you're facing a real issue, this union will not be there to help.

Follow-up to my initial 1-star review: After being contacted by DM’s customer support, I had hoped for a meaningful resolution. Instead, I received no real further assistance—only another bill. This has further confirmed my impression that DM is, in my experience, an utterly ineffective union.

By contrast, my experience with Djøf has been entirely different—proactive, supportive, and resourceful. They made a genuine effort to help and utilised many resources for my case, something DM never delivered. As a foreigner, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my well-being simply didn’t matter to DM. One DM advisor even said to me: “In Denmark, if you got bullied at school, you will be asked to be friends with the bully again.” Seriously?

If you’re choosing a union: go with Djøf, not DM.

Hanne was very helpful in providing some suggestions about possible careers outside of academia. I did not really know what to expect, but she not only gave me suggestions as to organizations I could apply to, but also practical strategies/tools to navigate the application process.
