Negligent, gaslighting, and emotionally unsafe. I nearly lost my finger. Avoid at all costs.

I’m a veterinary surgeon with 10 years of clinical experience. I reached out to Doctor Care Anywhere (DCA) after sustaining a dog bite — only to be met with a consultation that was not just medically unsound, but emotionally abusive.

The doctor insisted on prescribing flucloxacillin, which is ineffective against Pasteurella — a common pathogen in dog bites. When I challenged her and explained the pharmacological risks, she resisted, then said she “needed to check the formulary.” She only conceded after I pushed for co-amoxiclav, the correct treatment. Had I followed her advice, I could have lost my finger — and my career.

To make matters worse, her clinical notes omitted this entire exchange, painting a misleading version of events to protect herself and obscure her lack of pharmacological knowledge.

Emotionally, the interaction was manipulative and invalidating. She was cold, dismissive, and undermining — classic covert emotional abuse, wrapped in clinical detachment.

Despite raising detailed concerns, DCA never reached out to me directly. They only began any form of response after AXA — the insurer — got involved. Even then, their communication has been dismissive, vague, and accountability-averse. They did not investigate until forced, and their behaviour feels designed to suppress, not resolve.

If you’re looking for care that is safe, honest, and emotionally aware — this is not the place. I expected medical support. Instead, I was retraumatised and gaslit. And if something goes wrong, you’re left fighting a wall of silence.

Good experience, sorted my problem straight away, didn’t have to doctors for a referral, much easier and quicker.

Same day appointment times and took the time to understand and diagnose my issue. Very much better service than my regular GP!

Being able to get an appointment last minute in the evening was so great. The doctor I spoke to was really reassuring and understood my concern and was able to advise me and put my mind at ease.

Doctor Care anywhere is invaluable and unmatched. Immediate access to specialists and GP's when you need it, without waiting and from your home. The app is very easy to use. Video calls are flawless. Very quick notes and referrals. I could not speak more highly of the service and the GP's I've spoken to.

The Dr was knowledgeable kind caring and listened , he gave me excellent advice discussed my blood results and suggested what I should look at going forward.
Sadly this is not what you get from your NHS Dr.

My own surgery was full no appointment's that day, so I booked an appointment with "doctor care anywhere" within 15mins I was talking to a doctor on video call. You can't get a quicker appointment than that. My prescription was sent to me i took it to my local chemist and 30 mins later I had my medication.

It is an awful experience. The doctor is Dr A Afzal which is so unhelpful. She asked so many questions and then told me the time is up and asked me to see another doctor because she could not do it. She seems to end the session in a rush and tries to push me to another doctor because she does not like the case. Very awful experience with so many excuses.

Shockingly poor communication. Appointment booked, cancelled with no explanation. Called the call centre as instructed on the app. Told it was an IT glitch and the GP couldn't call as a result. Fine. Annoying but it happens. Booked another gp for a later time, that one also comes and goes (the only way you know is to sit and wait for an email to say cancelled.
Called call centre again, this time apparently there is a problem with my account. Asked what the problem was, told they couldn't say but apparently now fixed. Well someone isn't being truthful are they. Either the first or second call centre member of staff. Will now have to attempt a third time but I dont have the energy for it. It should be a smooth easy process, it's anything but.

I made an appointment and it got cancelled 30 mins before the time; I re-booked with another doctor, and it got cancelled 10 mins before the time.

The doctor phoned me at the appointed time and effectively gave me a medical consultation over the phone.

He was highly professional, supportive, caring and encouraging, and reassured me in the process.

I would highly recommend this service.

It's a really useful service included in my healthcare plan and it's easy to book an audio or video call with a GP, even at weekends, with a range of appointments and a choice of male or female Doctor available, according to your preference.

I've used the service a few times and there has been the occasional technical glitch, or the GP has been running late, but they always phone and you can have a telephone call as a backup. In my experience, the GPs are very knowledgeable and reassuring and able to answer any questions that I've had.

My one criticism is that the prescription service isn't very joined up. You can have the prescription sent electronically to your local pharmacist, but that isn't always convenient, especially for those that work during working hours during the week, when pharmacies are open (i.e. those most likely to have a healthcare plan and need to use the service!), so I opted to have my prescription delivered, thinking it would be a next day service. The information sent in emails and on the site is inconsistent, with the FAQs saying you'll receive a link to make payment and arrange delivery (making it sound automated and more or less immediate) and the prescription email itself saying someone will be in touch via phone... It turns out that it takes 2-3 days for the "partner" to get in touch (I actually received an SMS and an email 2 days after my appointment) and a further 2 working days for the prescription to be delivered. Meanwhile, once you've opted for delivery, you lose the ability to print the prescription out or take it to a physical pharmacy. Fortunately, my prescription wasn't medically urgent, but it's only natural to want to get treatment as soon as possible after it's been prescribed, so I ended up looking online and it turned out I could get the medication I was prescribed delivered next-day OTC, without a prescription and for a bit cheaper than the "partner" eventually quoted... I would therefore recommend looking around before requesting the prescription and taking it to a pharmacy yourself if you're in a hurry.

Otherwise, would definitely recommend the service
