We booked Ace Rent a Car Fiumicino through Do You Italy platform. They took €1600 deposit from our credit card, we returned it with no problems as the return document confirmed, but instead of returning €1600 they returned €1000, stealing €600 from us as an unjustified and unauthorised payment. We have been trying to contact Ace Rent a Car Fiumicino on all platforms but they blocked us, proving they’re guilty.
We wrote to Do You Italy but they are not helping or taking responsibility. Do not use them!

I contacted support to dispute a charge of €87.73 for a DoYouItaly car rental booking that was never confirmed by the seller, despite the payment already being processed. I provided all supporting documentation (bank statement, linked insurance policy, correspondence with the seller). The agent guided me correctly through opening the dispute, but the response time was quite slow. I also think that, since Nexi operates in Italy, Italian-speaking support should be available instead of only English or Spanish.

Easy to book online but extra charge to return to a different location is not mentioned until the booking is made. This is not good practice.

The reservation process is confusing when comes to terms, no straight transparent information. No info about deposit even when taking the better insurance offer, after paying and confirming reservation there comes information from third party company about 1200 deposit.

I booked a rental car through DoYouItaly for €624 for 10 days. When I arrived at the airport, I was told that because I was using a Visa/Mastercard Debit card instead of a credit card, I had to pay an additional €400 for a mandatory “Gold Protection” package. This increased the total rental price to €1,024. That I already paid full protection insurance as well via Doyouitaly wasn’t taken into consideration either.
I do not object to companies having their own policies. However, such a significant additional cost should be made much clearer during the booking process so customers can make an informed decision before travelling.
Unfortunately, the experience became even worse. The car was handed over with warning messages on the dashboard related to the tyre pressure monitoring system and/or wheel alignment, the boot was still full of sand, and a large child seat had been left inside the vehicle.
I immediately contacted Felirent by email, sent photos of the warning message, and requested assistance because I was staying in Sant’Antioco, around 90 km from Cagliari. I also contacted DoYouItaly. Several days later, I have still not received a single response from either company.
Paying over €1,000 for a rental car and then receiving a vehicle in this condition, combined with no customer support at all, is extremely disappointing.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service.

I booked Ace Rent a Car Fiumicino through Do You Italy and they stole €600 from my credit card and blocked me. I cannot get hold of Do you Italy, they should be worried they have thieves on their platform but maybe they’re as bad as them. AVOID
Update: your answer has nothing to do with what happened. They charged an unauthorised and undocumented amount AFTER I returned the car even though everything was fine and then blocked me when I asked for explanations. How can you defend that and be ok with that?

I strongly recommend avoiding both DoYouItaly and any rental company participating in this business model, such as RentalPlus.
I have rented cars many times over the years. I only use a debit card, yet this has never been a problem because I always purchased full insurance. That meant no security deposit, no worries about potential damage charges, and complete peace of mind.
On 31 May, I booked and prepaid a car through DoYouItaly for pickup at Alghero Airport (7–18 July). I also purchased their Platinum Excess Insurance ("100% Protection") (Policy No. 64727494).
The price was lower than on the major booking platforms, which seemed like a great deal. Of course, there was a catch.
When I arrived at the RentalPlus desk, I was told that the insurance I had purchased was the broker's insurance, not the rental company's. I was informed that if I wanted to rent the car using my debit card (instead of leaving a €700 security deposit), I would have to purchase RentalPlus's own insurance for €591.70, plus leave an additional €100 fuel deposit.
At that point, I had no real choice. Either I lost the money I had already paid because I could no longer cancel the booking, or I paid another €591.70 just to receive the car I had already booked and paid for.
At the RentalPlus desk I was also told that if I called DoYouItaly and cancelled their insurance, they would refund it. I immediately contacted DoYouItaly, and their representative confirmed that they would process the refund once I sent proof that I had purchased RentalPlus's insurance.
I opened request DYI-210178658 and sent them the signed RentalPlus agreement exactly as requested.
Since then: nothing. No reply. No refund. Despite several follow-up emails and reminders.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that I relied on the information provided both at the rental desk and by DoYouItaly's own customer service. I followed every instruction, submitted every requested document, and still received no response whatsoever.
In my opinion, the way this offer is presented is misleading. It creates the impression that purchasing the broker's "100% Protection" provides comprehensive coverage and allows you to rent the car using a debit card. However, at the rental desk you may discover that, in practice, you are still required to purchase an additional, expensive insurance policy from the rental company in order to rent the vehicle under the conditions you reasonably expected.
Once again, I cannot stress this enough: I strongly recommend avoiding both DoYouItaly and any rental company participating in this business model, including RentalPlus.
Response to DoYouItaly.com:
Pablo,
My Rental Voucher (request DYI-210178658) clearly states: "Debit cards are accepted if you take the supplier's insurance."
When I booked the car, I was led to believe that purchasing Policy No. 64727494 fulfilled that requirement.
However, when I arrived at the RentalPlus desk, I was informed that the insurance I had purchased was the broker's insurance, not the rental company's insurance. As a result, it was of no practical use for collecting the car with my debit card. I was required to purchase another insurance policy for €591.70 from RentalPlus.
This is precisely why I consider the way your offer is presented to be misleading. The wording of the voucher led me to believe that I had already purchased the insurance required to rent the car using a debit card, when in reality that was not the case.
Furthermore, I already contacted your customer service, submitted all the requested documents, and followed up. Unfortunately, I received no response whatsoever. Because those conversations took place privately rather than publicly, they were simply ignored.
I will contact your customer service once again, describe the case, and resubmit all the required documentation. However, if my claim is not resolved immediately, I will return to this review and update it accordingly so that other customers are aware of how this matter was handled.
Update:
They have refunded the cost of the insurance, so I take back the part about them not refunding me, however, I stand by the rest of my statement, especially the part about their misleading practices. I’ll never use their services again.

I like Doyouitaly. At times it might be glitchy and recently it changed the terms of the insurance so that they are no longer so convenient but overall I have been using it for years and it is quite a reliable platform to find car rental deals.

I never heard the rent car want the return flight ticket in order to release the rental all ready paid to you. Now where is gone the money?
What kind of request “return ticket “ i paid for 8 days no need till a return in UK ! What is the reason? To refuse to release the rent car . Is a trick for a customer don’t pay attention when buying from a broker you should use simple rental car company service scheme for the customers

The booking process was easy, but the overall experience was disappointing. We arrived at the rental office on time, but the car was not provided because we only had a debit card instead of a credit card. We lost the €53 prepaid reservation fee and received no refund. Make sure you carefully check all payment requirements before booking.
