EA Charged me Money Even Though I have 2 Years Free

At 4 AM on Aug 27 2025, my Electrify America card didn’t work at a charger—even though my account was set up in both EA’s and BMW’s apps. No errors or instructions appeared. I wasn’t aware I needed to call to get the charger working that early—nowhere is that explicitly told. I still got charged. When I reached out, I was told “you should have called,” and no refund was offered.i literally have the two year free plan that came with my BMW. Also just so people are aware, their chargers cost double what any other electric charger in the area costs, I only went there because I wanted to make use of the free charging. According to a lot of people this is a common issue basically EA is running a scam by promising free charging and then having “issues” when you get to the charger that they refuse to refund you for. Really bad company, I’d avoid them in general.

Horrid

Horrid. Not once have I had a good experience—always something not working. Makes sense, came with the crappy purchase of the ultra-crappy Kia Niro electric—together they make an unfortunate pair of loser products.
I have had to call each and every time I have needed to use their service. Their app is CRAP. While I was told it was free for three years (ah hah) I have had to put money into an account. Dismal.

Out of 4 chargers-1 was out of service

Out of 4 chargers-1 was out of service. Two of the chargers had speed of 30kw-charger 4 station is supposed to be up to 350 kw and station 3 is supposed to be up to 150 kw. I had to wait to use charger 1. When it opened up, I started out at 120 kw and then it dropped to 90 kw and then down to 20 kw. I had to call several times today. I have a plan with Rocky Mountain Power which is supposed to give me a discount. NOPE, got charged FULL price. We called Rocky Mountain Power and they agreed I should have the discount. I am UPSET. I can't get anywhere with Electrify America. They even told me that I would see the discount.

Too few chargers and many are out of order

Electrify America has got to be the worst provider for charging electric cars. They barely have stations and when they do there’s only 3 chargers of which at least one is ALWAYS out of order. there is always a line of people waiting. Not sure how but they seem to have the accounts for all the major car manufacturers so we are stuck with them for our free charging incentive. I suggest Mercedes Benz drop them right away!

Poor Service at Chargers and on 833Helpline

Poor Service at Chargers and on 833-helpline

110123-02 and -03 chargers at Grovetown, GA do not deliver reliably what is promised. Just to reiterate none of the factors listed apply on why the charge is not being delivered reliably - so this review takes those factors in account by giving Electrify America credit for it.

Calling customer service goes through the same motions every time - "reboot" the chargers and the status does not change. One loses a precious commodity called "time" in making such calls.

This one time (7/26/25 @ 0444 hours), I called Electrify America letting them know that the charger -03 was not working close to normal (delivering 115-120kW sustained from a 350kW charger) and that they should get this charger looked at. She said that she did not see anything wrong on her end and quoted me the standard factors of why this could be happening and blamed my vehicle for it.

She then asked me to "reboot" and I refused because it was going to cost me another 10 minutes of downtime and I had just switched from charger -02 which was absolutely not working normal. I pointed this to her and said look at the 2-minute profile of charging on -02 that happened just before I switched to -03. I said hyperfast chargers do not come down on charging speeds to 27 kW ever after just 2 minutes of erratic delivery. She said that she did not see anything wrong with that either.

I'd give them zero stars if I could

I'd give them zero stars if I could. CRAP app, the thing locked me out after using it for nearly a year, then when they "escalated" it they sent the same stupid solutions I already told them I tried 20 times.

Worst service ever...

Pricing only available at chargers

With their Pass+ membership they promise "up to a 25% discount." What they don't tell you, until you get to the charger, is that the discount is applied to their outrageously high price, making the final "discounted" price HIGHER than typical undiscounted prices at Tesla chargers.

My experience along I-20 in Texas:
EA regular price - $.64 per kWh
Pass+ price - $.48 per kWh
Tesla regular price - $.46 per kWh

I canceled Pass+ and deleted the EA app. Never going back.

This company is criminal

This company is criminal. They can have broken machines, not tell you the time of a charge, and then if you don't know if its charging or not, they charge you double the time if you charge again. They state you can only charge for thirty minutes once an hour. They abuse people financially. They let their broken equipment with no active screens charge your card whatever they want. Please, oh please, can we petition to shut them down?

Among the worst companies in the United…

Among the worst companies in the United states. Abysmal customer service. Defective equipment nationwide. Absolutely useless customer care team. I was told by Kyle at customer care that it is reasonable for a electrify America customer to spend 50 minutes standing in 115° Gilroy Sun helping an offshore agent located in India troubleshoot electrify America equipment. Kyle also informed me that even in order to get a one cent refund, electrify America must launch an investigation which might take weeks. At least 70% of the time one or more chargers in a constellation are not working. And at least 50% of the time chargers are not working, they are listed as functional on electrify Americas horrible Android app. My call to customer care, which resulted in a 30-minute hold followed by a 30 minute conversation with someone in India, ended with that India call center supervisor telling me there is no guarantee corporate customer care whatever reach out to me regarding my complaint. Shockingly, 30 minutes after I hung up with india, I received a call from Kyle who was located at the Indianapolis call center. What initiated this nightmare was the electrify America charger shutting down the charging session after 30 seconds. Of course the app doesn't work properly, so I was not alerted that the charging session stopped until almost 11 minutes after it stopped. By then I had been charged and idling fee. I called India to refund the idling fee and they informed me that they would make a request but would not guarantee my $2.50 would be refunded. That's what I was informed and investigation would be launched into the $2.50 refund request.

It is long past time for a class action lawsuit against electrify america. Volkswagen sells cars with an electrify America charging contract attached. That's their incentive. But electrify America does not provide the service they promise.

Bills you monthly without authorization

After using them for a few days during vacation. They continued to bill me a monthly fee without a monthly email or mailing to notify me. Very shady way of doing business. After contacting them they said they couldn't do anything about it. Do not trust this company. Very shady cash grab for sure.

Terrible customer service

Switching from an iPhone to a Google Pixel, I had to reinstall the Electrify America app. But when trying to connect with the app, I never get the verification code needed to finalize the connection.
I opened a ticket with their Customer Service early April, it's now 6 weeks "they are working on my case", but no progress has been made ...
There is no clear escalation process ... this is the most pathetic customer service I have ever experienced in the US !!!

I’m going to make this short because…

I’m going to make this short because I’m very upset. The electrify America charger that I used damaged my charger because it was damaged. A technician came out and confirmed this. Electrify America Customer Service told me to take the car and have it repaired and send them the invoice. They would take care of it. I did that and the charges were almost $10,000. After a week electrify America contacted me and told me that they were not going to take care of the charges. They would not tell me why because it was an internal reason which could not be revealed.

Electrify America is frustrating at best.

Through Hyundai lease program we get two years free charging through electrify America. When it works, great but I would have to say that at least 15 % of the time I have given up trying to get the station to charge properly. I’ve called the service number and about half the time they’ve been able to solve the problem.
Today, after driving about 9 miles, and4 attempts at two different stations to charge I left. This system is unreliable and I would never recommend it to anyone.

This company was started by the 2 billion dollar penalty stemming from Volkswagen’s diesel emissions fraud of 2016. I’m not convinced VW actually cares if there are issues with their charging stations.
What’s the point of having an electric vehicle if you can’t be guaranteed that the charging station will work?

Absolutely highway robbery

They are the biggest rip off company in the EV market! Honestly they are about twice what you pay at Tesla superchargers. I will NEVER patronize them if there is any other option. I hope once Tesla superchargers all accept non Tesla's they are put out of business.

UNSAFE!!!!! Horrible experience!

UNSAFE!!!!!! No organization, no marked lines, total chaos. Have been in several situations at EA where "line cutters" started fights with others; mosts recently an incident escalated into someone pulling out a gun. I believe your company has a responsibility to implement basic safety and organizational measures at your stations. I strongly urge you to:

Employ attendants to oversee operations at busy stations

Install security cameras and post clear signage indicating the area is under surveillance

Add visible signage and permanent cones or markings to designate the correct waiting queue

Customers should not have to risk their safety to access the services your company provides—especially when these stations are located in high-traffic areas without adequate oversight.

I hope you will take this issue seriously and prioritize customer safety by making the necessary changes as soon as possible.

Charged Idle Fees for an EA Canceled Session with no Notification.

Electrify America Shut off my charging session due to a failed card transaction. Their app failed to notify me that this happened and to top it all off my card provider show no attempted charge. So Electrify America is more than happy to charge an idle fee when the card is declined but not charge the car. I reached out to customer service at the time and was rushed off the phone. When they reached out over email in response it was sorry but nothing we can do. No real response to the issue of their system failing to notify me or attempt to actually charge the card.
