Avoid EON for EV Charger Installations – Unresolved Issues, Poor Customer Service, and Endless Delays
My experience with EON's EV charger installation and customer service has been nothing short of a nightmare, stretching from October 2023 to May 2024, and still, my EV charger remains non-functional.
During the initial video consultation, EON flagged potential issues with the consumer unit but assured me the installation could move forward. On November 13, 2023, the technician completed the installation, only to mention a voltage problem for the first time, stating that a red ring on the charger would indicate issues. The charger initially worked but failed to charge reliably overnight.
I immediately reported these problems to EON, who advised me to contact my Distribution Network Operator (DNO), SP Energy Networks. The DNO found no voltage issues, and I relayed this information to EON, requesting that they recalibrate the charger. Rather than address the issue, EON replaced the charger in January 2024, but the same overnight charging failures persisted.
Despite my continued documentation of the issues and repeated complaints, EON failed to provide an effective resolution. They escalated the matter internally but made no meaningful progress. In February, EON insisted on installing their own voltage meter, dismissing the DNO's findings, which only added more delays. To make matters worse, they threatened fines over a meter I never even received!
By March, after months of issues, EON was still blaming voltage despite the DNO's evidence to the contrary. They dragged their feet on every step, even after I agreed to involve the Utilities ADR scheme at their suggestion in April. After nearly two more months of waiting, they sent a deadlock letter in May 2024, acknowledging the unresolved complaint but still offering no solution.
I have even been to the UADR to help resolve this issue and despite highly detailed records and case notes, they said to keep going with this diabolical service.
Throughout this entire ordeal, EON’s response has been nothing but delay, denial, and disregard for the facts. Their inability to address verified data from the DNO and resolve the issue has left me with a non-functional charger for over a year, causing significant inconvenience.
I cannot stress enough how poor their service has been, both quality and customer care. If you're considering EON for EV charger installation, save yourself the time, money, and frustration—look elsewhere.
Will never use this company again
Had a charger installed at my property in March 2024 by eon. August 2024 I have contacted eon to have the charger removed and relocated to another property as I didn’t want to void the warranty by doing it myself. It took a week for an over the phone survey to be conducted and another 2 days for an answer to be given. The Answer given was “eon doesn’t offer this service anymore”. I work for eon and know the rules have changed regarding removal but the rules changed during the time I was waiting for a survey to be done after contacting the company. (I know this as I speak to several EV installers). So not only have I spent £800+ on a EV charger they are offering £100 discount on a new charger install.
Do not under ANY circumstances purchase…
Do not under ANY circumstances purchase an Eon EV Charger.
11 months of a product that is clearly not fit for purpose. The Eon support line is shambolic, after being offline for months the latest suggestion yesterday was to switch it off and on again. Meanwhile the ‘2nd line’ technical support is even worse, they don’t call back when promised and if they do then blame everything and everyone else, for example my broadband - I’ve now changed my broadband supplier, had a broadband engineer out and still exactly the same problems.
Eon should be utterly ashamed to be putting their name to this product, and for the stress and anxiety their product and terrible customer service is causing.
I’m seriously thinking about setting up a support group for those customers impacted by this product and to raise awareness market wide about how terrible it is. Something needs to be done. If you’re reading this because you’ve also in despair with an Eon charger then I really do sympathise.
WARNING Do consider using Eon Drive !!
WARNING Do consider using Eon Drive !!!
Nobody knows what they are doing.
Absolutely terrible !!!!
Ron Charger issue
Had the eon charger installed last oct23,have had numerous problems with the charger going offline and hence not charging overnight as it did tonight. Being awake I double tapped the rfid card and it started charging, still had the blue light flashing though. I’m sure the issue is with the app not the charger because my app is showing the charger as offline but it’s working now with the app showing offline The helpline is pretty ineffective as all they can do is reboot the charger. It frustrating as you need the car to be charged for the morning but can’t trust the charger
Rubbish Advice and back up service
I finally got a call from Eon who said it must be my wifi and that a wifi extender was required. Ok, so I popped out to my local Currys, explained the problem and purchased a wifi extender. Result - no change, the charger will not stay connected. It drops out after a few hours or longer. Fortunately I have not paid for it and have told Eon either fix it or take it away. NO RESPONSE so NO PAYMENT.
Disappointing
Disappointing. Keeps disconnecting from the Wi-Fi making overnight charging next to impossible. It should be a simple process to charge, but isn’t. Agree with the review’s below.
If Zero were a Star option Eon Drive…
If Zero were a Star option Eon Drive would’ve won the prize.
Survey and install was Ok at best, but it didn’t work.
Everytime I want to charge the car it’s “Red” fault.
Waste of money. Use anybody elses equipment other than Eon. Doesn’t work, not fit for purpose. 4 weeks in and many calls and tomorrow’s will be remove this ship of my house.
AVOID!!!
Avoid the Vestel charger
I wish I have of read the other reviews before spending a £1000 for the charger.
On the plus side, installation was good, neat and on time.
The Vestel charger itself is not fit for purpose. I keep getting the red ring of death and when that does not happen the charge disconnects from wifi (ceasing charge) and has to be hard reset from the fuse board. This has lead to sleepless nights wondering if the car will charge overnight in order to drive to work the next day (120 mile round trip). I have been using the charger for six weeks and the red ring has subsided but the general disconnect from WiFi happens around 3 times per week. I don't understand why the unit does not auto re-connect to WiFi like every other appliance / gadget.
The charger is by the front door, right next to a ring doorbell which never looses connection; The WiFi router is in the study above the porch so range or signal strength is not the issue, it is the box itself.
Don't Order and Eon Drive Charger.…
I had an Eon Drive charger fitted over a week ago. It doesn't work. Just get a constant red light indicating a fault. Phoned several times just get told my issue has been forwarded. They cannot offer any help and have no timeline as to when it will be fixed or repaired. Back to using the 13 amp socket.
Uninterested staff who never actually get anything resolved. NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY
Utter rubbish
Lousy service
Lousy service. I booked appointment for video conference call two weeks ahead, they cancelled it the day before, took about 4 phone calls and long waits to rebook another 10 days ahead. Again they did not make the appointment, did not notify me. They were the approved supplier through Nissan for car chargers.Nissn think again. Avoid them
Terrible charger
Terrible charger
Just never works, I tap the card and nothing I'm getting it ripped out and replaced with a zappi
When it works it works well but so temperamental, avoid at all costs
Avoid this company like the plague
The charger they have fitted at our home has never worked and they are blaming our wifi and voltage issues which they say is not their problem. our wifi provider has tested and sees no issues. we have loads of devices included security working connect to wifi with no issue. we are going to do a voltage test and prove this is EONs fault. a truly terrible experience. their product should be taken off the market.
Eon electric vehicle fast charger
I plugged in to charge at McDonalds Lowestoft. The eon drive 300 kW fast charger was not working. I called eon and the guy helped me. We had several attempts including payment but it would not work. So he said he would reboot the machine ,the fancy way of saying turn it off and on. I waited as instructed and again tried my card . The machine e then worked. I asked him to confirm I would only be charged the once.He said I would be charged the reservation fee but it would be repaid.
I have now checked my bank account and I have been charged £30 , 6 times. That's £180 taken from my account because eon had a faulty machine. Be very careful as this is quite a sum to be debited for nothing. I have no idea when/ if it will be returned.
Vestel Ev04 charger was installed by…Eon-Drive
Vestel Ev04 charger was installed by Eon-Drive in December. It keeps disconnecting from our wifi and won't reconnect. It has proved unreliable and Eon-Drive have not been helpful. The RCD installed by them has also stopped working so the charger cannot be isolated. I would not recommend them to anyone. It would also have been good to see the charger in advance as it is a really bright coloured, sometimes flashing, light which we cannot switch off. It is so intrusive in a dark area even on lowest setting.
EON Charger and App
Its the worst charger, since I installed it the unit keeps losing connection with my Wi-Fi (Virgin Router Hub 5).
None of my other devices have the same issue, including a security that is situated above the camera.
EON keep blaming the my Wi-Fi and have been no help at all.
Avoid installing an EON charger.
Complained to CDRL but they have been no help either.
EON Drive is a diabolically bad…
EON Drive is a diabolically bad company, please don’t even think of using them. I had a wall charger “installed”in Jan 23, it has never worked and has also irreparably damaged the onboard charger on my vehicle.
EON drive couldn’t care less and despite numerous requests have never sent anyone to investigate or honour the supposed ( and worthless) 3 year guarantee.
A year on , I have received a successful determination from the adjudicator ( legally binding I am told) ordering EON to fix the issue or remove the charger within 28 days, they have failed to even attempt to do either.
They couldn’t care less, their customer service can only be described as a disgrace.
The stress they have caused is off the scale , a disgustingly bad organisation, the contempt and arrogance displayed by anyone you eventually manage to speak to and total disregard for the customer or acknowledgement of their shoddy workmanship defies belief.
And here we are on our 12th day and…
And here we are on our 12th day and still NO contact from eon ,
Stress , has been through the roof , our ev hasn’t moved because the home charger which was put in 3 months ago has stopped working ( no power ) we’ve done everything with this company yet they can not be bothered to reply , please avoid eon if you want a reliable service as this is 110% unreliable and so unpleasant , I’d love to swear and show our true disgust in eon , but that won’t get any where as is being polite
What a horrible company knowing we’ve two young kids to get about
Can anyone else give me any advice on what to do legally with this joke of a company
Avoid charing with eon!!
Just an absurdly bad. When you try to charge, it simply doesn't work and gives you no meaningful error message. Then you try 3 more times and it works... Other time I got an error that it couldn't proces my payment info. I go and remove my card, add it again and it says card added successfully. Then when I try to charge I get the same error. I try with multiple different cards that has always worked fine, and I get the same error. I can't describe how frustrating this app is to use.
