Unusable in Vietnam

Unusable in Vietnam. Shows 3G connection but so slow it takes 2-3 minutes for a google site to load. Apps like FB forget it.
Switched to a different e-dim provider and had 5G the whole time with super fast connection.

The card we bought for Vietnam only…

The card we bought for Vietnam only worked in the cities outside the urban centers, it had very little or no coverage.
But on the way back from the trip, it is one of the few companies that has offered me a good solution to compensate for the problems I had at the time and so that these do not occur again.

Sim Cards not well identified

Last summer we went on our honeymoon to Vietnam and Thailand, so we purchased two simcards from Holafly for these two destinies.
We received the sim cards in a couple of days which was great. However, none of them was correctly identified, we did not receive any email to match the sim card id number with the destiny so we contacted Holafly.
The answer was very quick from their side, but we found out when we arrived to Vietnam that they provided the wrong information (exchanged sim card id with destiny), so when we installed the first SIM card it didnt work.
We were worried since in the website it was written that once you install the simcard it is activated.
After contacting holafly without any response, we decided to try the other sim card just in case, and it did work!
Finally, even all this mess, when we installed the second sim card in Thailand (even we did install it in Vietnam, looks like it wasnt properly activated) it worked correctly too.

E-SIM Use in Vietnam and Indonesia

The service is absolutely brilliant to use in countries where my home simcard doesn't cover data roaming. If find the need of this service absolutely necessary for travelling with things like map navigation and translating purposes.

Holafly Esim Vietnam

I used the esim for 10 days in Vietnam. Coverage was very good in Hanoi, but once I got further out of town, it was patchy. Viettel was the provider, so your connection depends on the quality of network. Worked in most places was fast in the city. Overall it worked well.

Great service

I purchased the Holafly e-sim for Asia. It was easy to activate and the service worked well in the countries I traveled to, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. Through the e-sim I was able to always use apps like gmail, chrome, whatsapp, maps, grab, etc. to be able to get around. The team at Holafly were also very helpful and quick to respond to any questions.

A scam or shady at best.

Never got it to work, and I would never trust Holafly again after my experience and reading the negative reviews on TrustPilot.

I think Holafly is a scam, or a very shady company at best.

Why?

First lets talk about the price.

A 30 day eSIM in Vietnam from Holafly is $64, a local SIM card for 30 days Viettel was $12. Holafly is Unlimited and Viettel (that I ended up with) was max 4 GB per day, that is more than plenty with the service quality you can expect. Reading some of the other reviews here and their limitations, I am pretty sure that a physical SIM is the better option for almost anyone in this country, especially when you consider the price (paying a premium for a lesser product in most situations).

Second.

The way they hide the requirements and refund policies on their side. On a computer it’s always mentioned outside of the screen, and you will actively need to actively scroll down to look for it. The only exception is a small text on the order page, that you will need to click on a link to check this out. This is very much harder to see if you order from a phone, as many would do. There is also no confirmation like a “phone model selector”, and a “phone is unlocked checkbox” to confirm once you buy. There is really hard to believe that this is not done intentionally to get more sales from people who are not able to use their product.

Thirdly.

Their customer support do not offer a refund, even if the code is not activated. They also suggested “try with a different phone”. That would directly put me in a situation where a refund will be even harder (from their refund policy). That is also a quite shady move from their part. It would also have locked the eSIM to that device (that might not need it, and further screw up the already working connectivity). Since it’s also not possibility to share the eSIM as a hotspot, that would be a waste, and worse for everyone.

Their webpage does say “We cannot issue a refund if your device is not compatible with eSIM or is not unlocked.”, however, see second point for that, and why I don’t think that would be a legal point (at least in my country).

I am pretty sure that a lot of people have got this working, but from my experience, don't gamble on that.
