Narrow focus,peripheral distortion.

My optician changed me from Seiko Prime varifocal to Essilor Xr because he felt they where premium and better than my old lenses.
Wrong move.
Essilor Xr are far worse. Very narrow focusing area in the intermediate and distance focal areas. Also noticed peripheral distortion and driving at night lots of light flare.

American companies are normally very…

American companies are normally very protective of their reputation. Unfortunately Essilor are the exception.
Having made 2 enquiries into the validity of the lenses I bought for £300 it is total silence.
On realising I may of been sold fake Essilor Lenses I looked for the method of verification. Essilor do not openly make this information available on their sales pamphlets for customers which conveys they are aware of this scam and remain distant and silent.
First my Comfort max lenses did not come with the Certificate of Authenticity and secondly the lenses did not have the Essilor logo laser etched on the nasal side of the lens.
My request could they verify the exact logo and did they issue a Certificate.
Now I have to take legal action to aquire this information

A Very expensive disappointment!

My original green transition glasses were replaced under warranty as they were yellow blotchy/striped, the replacement pair (approximately 1yr old) have gone exactly the same way, most unpleasant to look through.
If I didn't have this problem, twice, I would be giving my Essilor glasses 5*.

Poor quality

Much the same as reviews below. Expensive transition lenses failed and Essilor ignore complaints. Only recourse is to buy replacement lenses with a discount from opticians to reflect problems but still a very expensive purchasing mistake. Avoid using this company if you can.

Not happy with my Esslilor glasses up my Essilor glasses in…

I picked up my Essilor glasses in Aurgust 2024. Before buying the lenses I had recently had three eye tests with a scan with all the results pretty much the same. I had chosen the Essilor comfort along with the most expensive transitions and the Cryzal coating. I am afraid I am not experiencing how the lenses are marketed. Starting with the lenses, when watching the TV the slightest turn to my left or right results in my vission becoming blared. I struggle to read a car number plate at the recommended minimum distance and reading street sight can be a problem, looking through the very top of the lenses long distance reduces clarity also. The glasses are totally useless when driving if it's sunny or at night, if it's sunny i have to pull down my visor to try and minimise the glare, night driving has become a nightmare due to the glare frome car headlight, even some street lighting. Looking at the stars at night is similar to looking at street lights with rays of light shooting out in all directions. When out and about in the day time, if there's a little sunshine I have to lower my head to avoid the glare even though the transition coating has turned the clear lenses to shaded. Before buying the lenses I was quite exited waiting for my glasses to arrive having read so much of how good Essilor are, however I am not experiencing any of the benefits my self.

UK is where Essilor lenses go to die

11 weeks, 3 sets of lenses, 1 ruined pair of frames. After three painful attempts, the French lens maker’s UK glazers proved themselves not capable of cutting the lenses to the right shape or size and what’s more left my frames scratched and distorted, with gaps you could drive a truck through.

It’s like handing diamonds to lumberjacks for cutting.

But if that wasn’t enough, they decided to bash my glasses case for good measure. You can see how they took out their frustration.

Interestingly, the most recent five star review here is from someone who glazes Essilor in the UK…

The jury’s still out on the lenses themselves, by the way.

Varilux X Varifocal lenses - 2 years and in the bin

Varilux X Varifocal lenses. The peripheral vision with these are outstanding. These were my third set of lenses. No issues. My latest pair were Barely 2 years old, just out of warranty, pristine and well looked after, I noticed recently that the coatings had began to ever so slightly to degrade. Got them wet one day on my motorcycle. Put them in their case. When I got home the lenses were totally unusable. Just like that. Coatings just fogged and falling away, Lens surface rough. I live in Singapore, these lenses must be replaced. Two years 2 months lifespan for what is marketed as a top end product is simply unacceptable.

I purchased lenses through my optician…

I purchased lenses through my optician who had them manufactured by Essilor. About 11 months later, the coating started coming away leaving the glasses very foggy. I contacted Essilor through customer service twice, unfortunately without any response. Shop told me that there is no warranty.... What a shame for the company

Not good enough

I purchased varifocal prescription lenses through my optician who had them manufactured by Essilor. About three years later, the coating started coming away leaving the glasses very foggy. I contacted Essilor who said that the guaranty period is only two years so they could not replace them. These lenses are quite expensive so I would expect them to still function after two years.

Varied focals with transition lenses 18…

Varied focals with transition lenses 18 months and transition lenses head broken down, leaving patches all over the lenses took them back. They were still under guarantee they replaced the lenses 18 months again same thing happened this time they will not replace as they take the date of guarantee from the first date of purchase guaranteed for two years, but they only ever lasted 18 months I was asked for them to be sent back to them. I have been without them for a week. Only to be told that they sent them away to be analysing in case they where heat damaged and acknowledged They were not , to then say they would not replace them as the guarantee runs from the first date of purchase, so what was the point in asking for them to be sent for testing ,if they had no intentions of replacing them. If they are guaranteed for two years, the lens should last for two years.
