I regularly use rental cars but had the worst experience with Europcar Avenue Foch. I rented the car for 24h and was told to return it to the garage on Sunday morning which I did. Left the keys in the dedicated box and the parking ticket in the car. Consequently I received a bill for 48h with Europcar claiming that there is no evidence that I brought back the car after 24h use given that the agency was closed on Sundays. I wrote several email and called, but Europcar refused to refund me for the extra day charged even though the car was in their garage. They claimed that they never found the parking ticket. I recommend to go with Sixt instead as this has never happened to me before at Sixt. Unprofessional and a reason to never go back to Europcar.

We picked our car up from the very dark underground car park at CDG. The car wasn’t clean & it was so close to a wall on the passenger side that we had to pull forward to open the passenger door. We had videoed the rest of the car but I can be heard on the video saying ‘I can’t even get down that side’. Then surprise, surprise when we returned the car they found a small scratch on the door mirror. We couldn’t help wondering if the car had been parked there on purpose to hide it. Anyway no luck with Europcar when we called them out on this so we now use one of the alternative car hire companies. I don’t think any of them rate very highly so we have a separate annual insurance policy for the excess from Cover4rentals. The £47 cost of which we recouped in this one incident.

Europcar rightly gets poor reviews.
Europcar has a policy of upgrading at the counter at extortionate rates and uses the disguise of a foreign language to have customers sign something they don’t fully understand and has not even been explained verbally. Europcar can’t be trusted and makes every attempt to rip off its customers. When you make a complaint, they’re not interested.
Avoid Europcar at all cost.

I rented a car end of September 2025. When I got my invoice I found out that I paid an amount in excess, so the balance was in my favor. I called customer service, they promised to refund the difference on my credit card. Two weeks after, nothing, I sent one, then two, then three, then four emails… and every time they promised me a refund. More than a month after, I’m still waiting for MY money. This is a dishonest company which I don’t recommend. Beware.

I’ve been dealing with a ridiculous and unfair fuel charge dispute for four months now, and Europcars final demand is a perfect example of bad faith customer service.
When I picked up the rental car, the fuel tank was clearly at 3/4 full. I was told, as is standard practice, to return it at the same level.
I returned the car exactly as instructed, ensuring the gauge was at 3/4 full. I even took a photo of the fuel gauge at pickup for my own records, which I later shared with them.
Despite following the instructions perfectly, they immediately hit me with a fuel charge on my final bill.
When I complained, it took weeks to get an answer. It turns out they failed to document the fuel level when I returned the car. They essentially admitted they had no proof I didn't return it at 3/4, but they kept the charge anyway!
After four months of countless emails and calls, they finally agreed to reimburse the charge, but with one impossible condition: I must provide the fuel receipt.
Seriously?
I was only adding a small amount of fuel to top it up to the 3/4 mark as per the agreement—I wasn't filling an empty tank. Who keeps a receipt for a $5 top-up four months ago?
I was following their rules! Now I'm being penalized and denied a rightful refund because they want a receipt for a minor transaction from 4 months ago.
This isn't about the cost of the fuel; it's about the principle and the poor service. They made an error by charging me, they failed to document the return, and now they're hiding behind an unreasonable receipt requirement to avoid issuing a refund they've already admitted they owe.
Europcar, You have the photo of the pickup level and the admission that you failed to document the return level. Issue the full refund now.
Update:
They have refunded me for the fuel but they charged me again for the vehicle retrieval and equipment use, I am absolutely fuming at the lack of inconsideration and attention to detail

Don't be ridiculous, I am never dealing with Europcar again

Very disappointed with my experience. I’ve been trying to get a refund for a duplicate car rental charge for over a month, and despite multiple follow-ups, Europcar has failed to provide any proper response or resolution.
Their lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable… I’ve had to send the same request several times, and all I get are delays and no answers at all... It’s incredibly frustrating to deal with a company that doesn’t take responsibility for its customers’ issues.
I strongly advise others to be cautious when booking, as resolving any problems with Europcar’s customer service seems nearly impossible.

waited a while to get the car at cdg, but no big issue. However its not reasonable that a small traffic fine of 45EUR should have a larger admin fee from Europcar.

If I could give no stars I would. Charged £556 for a small scratch on a white car that stayed white it was so shallow. Unfriendly member of staff that processed the return too. I will never use this company in France again.

I recently rented a car from Europcar at Orly Airport, and I must say the experience has been frustrating. After returning the car without any incidents, on time, and with a full tank of fuel (all proven with photos), I was surprised to see a €179 charge on my account. I called their customer service to inquire about this, but they told me to make a request on their website. However, when I tried to access the website, it was not working properly and kept showing errors.
I then called again and was asked once more to use the website, which is extremely frustrating when the site is down. It's disappointing to have such poor communication and no clear explanation for the charge.
I hope Europcar improves their customer service and provides clear information on charges, especially when customers return vehicles responsibly.
This review highlights your situation clearly and calls out the issues with the website and customer support.

Speeding Fine - €45
Europcar Admin Fee - €55
Make it make sense!
As if receiving a fine is not unpleasant enough (No one is going around in an unfamiliar territory trying to receive a fine on purpose), Europcar France think they deserve some money too just to look at their database and notify the authorities about who was driving THEIR vehicle.
It's an unreasonable fee and people have no choice in this - it's not like there's an option to supply details by one's self in the event of a violation.
This is profiteering on people's misfortune and is an absolute SCAM!

I had an amazing experience in France (Charles de Gaulle Airport) with a woman called Amanda. I was in need of a car and decided to rent from Europecar so I went inside the store where I met Amanda.
Not only did the process go fast but also she provided such a good service by telling me what roads I should enter to go to my destination. Also she gave information about what to do and how to get back to Europecar to deliver the car which would have been almost impossible without her advice and guidance.
She definitely deserves my recommendation when going to rent a car.

Absolutely NIGHTMARISH experience with these crooks.
Dropped the car back spotless, not a fingerprint in sight, keys handed over with a smile. Two weeks later—BAM—£260 vanishes from my account like a magician’s rabbit. No invoice. No email. Just radio silence and a gaping hole in my bank balance.
Getting answers? Good luck. Their phone lines are a joke and emails go straight to the digital abyss.
Steer clear of these bottom-feeders unless you enjoy surprise robbery. They dangle “cheap” rates like bait, then shank you with phantom charges the second you turn your back.
Zero stars. Would rather hitchhike through a war zone than give these con artists another penny.

I rented a car for 2 days at Lyon airport. The service was amazing. I was served by Thomas. He explained everything to me from the insurance to breakdown service.
He was kind and spoke well.
There was no pushy service.
Returning the car was very easy. Thank you Europcar.

The contract you sign is in French and in French only. Which means you don´t really know what you sign. There is no handover of car, where you can make sure the car has no damages. Excisting damages are not visible in contract. If you overlook an excisting damage on the car made by others, you are held responsible and charged for repairing the damage. I´m never going to rent a car at Europcar again and I will never recommend this company to familiy and freinds.

Car rental fell through at CDG airport, resulting in having to take a taxi to Sourdeval, Normandy. Cost 940€.
Next day cancelled remainder of contract and agreed to a 3 day penalty with remainder of rental and extra insurance to be refunded. This was agreed to by the customer service representative as well as confirmed by his supervisor. This happened on July 1 2025.
Having now twice sent enquiries regarding the refund and receiving an apology by case number for the delay, it is now November and we still haven't received a refund, in fact we seem to be getting ignored.
All we are asking is for Europcar to honour the agreement they made!
If this is how they honour agreements, best avoid.
Perry Brandt.
Sourdeval Normandy
Just received yet another deaf response with yet another case number referring to yet a previous case number. I am almost resigned to the fact that Europcar is dishonest and should not be trusted. I am not even waiting for an adjudication, I am just asking that they honour the agreement we had reached. Very disappointing.

Terrible experience with Europcar at the Lyon TGV train station. I wanted GPS and they upsold me a Volvo SUV. First, it was much too big for the narrow roads in France, Second, it was in terrible condition and dirty when we got it. I took photos of the car beforehand. The fan belt squeaked the whole time I had it. And then when I returned the car, they told me there were 2 new damages on the car and dismissed my claim that the damages were shown in the photos. So now I have to file a claim with the credit card coverage.
Additional info: I used the link Europcar provided to submit a complaint. It failed about 6 times when I tried to add photos, and I lost all the info. So, I submitted it without photos and it worked. Then, they finally gave me an email to send the photos, too. Received a reply that they decided that the damage was not pre-existing and would not remove the damage charge from my credit card.
So, I will never rent from them again. If you decide to use them, take photos of the entire car inside and out -- or accept their insurance coverage.

AVOID Europcar Marseille Airport - a car rental scammers which thought was a thing of the past! Wish I read these reviews before hiring from these terrible people. They are purposely very unclear about the upgrade costs, for example, I was told I could upgrade to a banged up SUV for EUR50, when in fact it was 50 per day plus 20% VAT! Charging almost 3x my original booking. I simply asked if there was a car with a slightly larger boot for the same price and they gave me options, but quoting only the daily price as the difference in cost with no mention it was a daily price. I found this out after I’d returned home and the card was charged. I had signed the French documents and they made no effort to explain the full additional cost that I signed up to. They appear friendly and it’s Europcar so you let your guard down. But these guys are filthy, cowardly, young cowboys conning family’s on holiday. It’s disgusting. Customer service is responsive but completely useless, hiding behind T’s and C’s and not giving a dot about customer service or ethics. Can’t believe these guys are allowed to continue - although Europcar are haemorrhaging money at the moment so maybe this is them trying to claw back… i predict europcar demise… They will reply to this with some rubbish saying contact customer services (UK & France) - I already have and they are just as bad as the young lads in Marseille.

Based on my experience I do not recommend renting from the Europcar Strasbourg Gare office.
Upon returning my car in September 2025, I had a dispute on a 6cm surface scratch on a car that had plenty of pre-existing issues (broken grill, scuffed fenders, broken antenna, scratches etc...). The employee stated he would not charge for the surface scratch. I signed the car return document and left.
Upon receiving the e-mail car return document later in the day (In Spanish), I used Google translate to review the document. It stated the car was in an accident and their was a dent. Totally wrong.
I went to the office and spoke with the manager and employee who filled out the form. They agreed it was incorrect and would fix it in their system. They didn't. Two weeks later I'm charged 714 Euro for the scratch. I have opened a case with Eurocar -- been a month and no progress.
Just not honest. Fraudulent / inaccurate car return statements. A manager who provides her e-mail and phone number for future follow-up...and the information is wrong. Very disappointing and bordering on blatant unethical business practice. Say no to Europcar.

Our car was run into while parked in a carpark in September. Europcar took 1700 Euros from our credit card to cover damage repairs. The Europcar representative at Lille Gare Europe (where we dropped off the car) assured us that Europcar would pursue the damage claim with the other driver's insurers and would keep us informed of progress. We have heard nothing from Europcar and have had no response to emails we have sent to their French customer services and to two addresses provided by their Lille Gare Europe branch.
Europcar France's reply below has asked us to follow a link to a form to provide information. We have tried this multiple times (and had already tried this in the past few weeks as a way of contacting their customer services) and each time the form is rejected, with the message "Sorry, your request couldn’t be sent. There was a technical error on our side."

So bad customer service, they handled very badly the accident of my car, they would ghost me on emails or wash their hands, they have also charged me a lot of fees that weren't agreed upon like "qualified office" and some "environmental fees". so they charge you like for a premium service and underdeliver.. do yourself a favor and avoid them
