fully satisfied with the service and the car. I had some doubts at first but after they explain the terms all went smooth and fast. for sure I will return and for sure I will take again the insurance to be relaxed!

Suspected Fraudulent behaviour & Customer Pressure

My hire vehicle should have been a Skoda Karoq or similar. I was provided with a Toyota Compact High Rider. I had 4 passengers with me, hence the additional boot space in the Karoq was essential. I made mention of this and was told that this was the only vehicle immediately available. We had to leave the parcel shelf with the company in order to maximise the space available in the vehicle and still had some bags on laps. What was the point in paying the additional fee for a larger car in the first place?

Dubious practice during return procedure. Fresh vertical (could not, therefore, have been as a result of manoeuvring) scratch mark found on the rear nearside bumper corner as well as a jagged horizontal scratch inside the vehicle on the driver side transmission channel cover. I wore soft training shoes throughout my 32 hours in Bucharest and with my limited time in the vehicle, I could not see how this damage could have been attributed to me. It occurred to me afterward that the Inspection was carried out by one individual over an extended period whilst the other engaged my Son and I in conversation about our trip. DO NOT leave the person inspecting the vehicle unsupervised as we did. I am convinced that both area’s of ‘damage’ was caused during this ‘Inspection.’
Further, I had the vehicle for a little over a day. The weather, aside from a light overnight mist, was clear and dry. Yet, the staff member implied that he was doing me a favour by not charging a fee for returning the vehicle in a ‘dirty’ condition. I challenged this and he said that it is often dusty in Bucharest and that is why a film often covers vehicle’s when they are returned. I countered this by saying that I would not clean my own car on a daily basis and asked if he was seriously suggesting that a car hire of only 32 hours duration should conclude with a mandatory wash before it’s return? There was no comment.

Lastly, as time was pressing before our return flight, I paid the ‘damage’ as assessed by the company representative. Thankfully, I had also taken out additional Insurance. However, as I had made payment in full, I was assured that my £1900 security deposit would be returned the following day. Despite three reminders, this did not materialise until 7 days later.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Serious warning

Serious warning: Misleading practices and deposit abuse!!

Be extremely careful with ExpediCar / AutoRevolution (Bucharest). Our experience shows a pattern designed to lure customers with attractive prices and then extract money afterward through questionable “fees” regarding the condition of the car on delivery.

At pickup, everything appears routine: competitive rate, smooth handover, and a standard credit card deposit presented as a pre-authorisation (although they seem to have also some problems with the credit card). However, after returning the vehicle, we discovered that the deposit was not merely blocked but actually charged, without prior notice, consent, invoice, or clear contractual basis.

The company implied a so-called “cleaning fee”, even though:

- The car was returned in a very good condition.
- The vehicle was already not properly cleaned at pickup, a fact acknowledged by their own agent.
- Access to their return location is via muddy/dirt roads, making light dust unavoidable.

This creates the strong impression of a setup: vague terms, lack of transparency, and post-rental charges taken from deposits, counting on customers being tired, traveling, or unwilling to fight afterward or like us in hurry to catch a flight.

Legitimate rental companies release deposits promptly and provide clear documentation for any charge. This company did neither.

Based on our experience, this business model relies on misleading pricing and unjustified deposit deductions rather than honest service. We strongly advise future renters to avoid this company or document absolutely everything if they proceed or better rent on another rental company nearby for piece of mind really, it doesn't worth the hustle with this one.

Unfair practices and hidden charges – avoid Expedicar.ro

I rented a car from Expedicar.ro through VIPCars.com in September 2025.
The representative was late, refused valid UK credit cards because they weren’t embossed (something not stated anywhere), and pressured me to buy expensive insurance.

The car was dirty and not properly inspected — I found additional scratches they hadn’t recorded. Upon return, they charged me €250 for minor scratches that were clearly pre-existing and impossible to see at pickup.

This company appears to use unfair tactics to extract extra charges from customers.

Avoid them at all costs.

By far the WORST rental car

The company is charging extra for damages that are not visible. Just read all the 1 star reviews. All the 5 star reviews here and on google are probably fake. The final rating may be good but it's a scam.

This company is a real shame and should…

This company is a real shame and should not be allowed to run close to an international airport - they are robbers and try by many ways to pick up unhonest money from their customers (insurance, unexisting damages , … )

They do not understand that car renting and customer satisfaction is a long term journey …

To avoid in any case , we have introduced an official claim with the Airport & Romanian National Authorithy of Consumer Protection

Do not trust this company!!

This company runs on offering very low prices and then either 1) offer you extremely expensive insurance or 2) search for the tiniest scratches (often non existing) upon returning the car and charge ridiculous amounts of money for it. We were charged 300 Euro for non existing damage on some plastic part inside. Just some dirt from our shoes!

This exact same practice has been reported by so many people.

Avoid renting here! Be extremely sceptic about the 5-star reviews! Their business model is based on scamming our insurance companies or you!

BEWARE SCAMMERS!

The company is a total scam, avoid at all cost. They behave politely, but don't let their politeness fool you: everything they do is to charge you more with hidden costs on ridiculous claims.

When I came to pick up a car, the company representative (Bogdan) made me pay for the extra insurance (despite the fact that I've already had one) for the exaggerated cost (more than actual price for the renting itself), because as he said he couldn't assure my credit card is actually credit and not the debit one, even though my card is an American Express one, from the company that is known for making credit cards ONLY (by the way, he had known that fact, as he told me by himself). I asked to talk to his manager, which just repeated the same ridiculous claim. I've also tried to talk to the booking.com itself to rule the situation, but the only resolution the had for me is to refund my original extra insurance, which was of course much more cheaper (about a third of the cost of the proposed by the company one).

And, the icing on the cake: when I've returned the car, the company representative (Gabriel) which accepted the car, told me "Well I see that everything is OK, the fuel and so, could you just sign here to approve that, and I'll send you the receipt by mail in a couple of minutes". So I signed, but when I've received the receipt, it stated that the car had 4 (FOUR) active damages with photos attached. Now, it's ridiculous, because he didn't take any pictures before asking me to sign, and in fact, those photos was taken about A MONTH AGO (there's a timestamp inside the jpeg file), which means it couldn't be damages made by me.

I’ve rented 2 times from expedicar

I’ve rented 2 times from expedicar, and I was pleased to discover that they’ve maintained the same level from last year. This is an excellent rental agency that goes above and beyond for you. I will definitely come back.

By far the WORST rental car

By far the WORST rental car. They are scammers!!! Don’t use them. I have rented cars for 40 years all over the world. After pushing us very strongly to get full insurance, which we declined, they literally made up things when we returned the car. They claimed there was a scratch on the wheel and bumper (which you cannot see in your naked eye) and demanded full replacement. They also demanded that we clean the car through a car wash! Since when does the customer run a car through car wash? They also gave us a car half full. Do not use them!!!

Extremely disappointing experience. I rented a car from Expedicar and was later charged for a superficial paint mark that I did not cause. Although I disputed the charge immediately, the company refused to consider my position or conduct a fair review. They claimed that my signature on the return form was an admission of guilt — which it was not — and proceeded to demand payment without any objective evidence beyond their own documentation.

The so-called “damage” was so minor that it doesn’t even appear in a clear photo I took of the car from just 2 meters away at the time of return. This shows how insignificant the mark truly was — if it was even new at all. I believe this charge is unjustified and disproportionate.

A formal complaint has been filed with ANPC (Autoritatea Națională pentru Protecția Consumatorilor) due to the company’s aggressive and unfair approach to handling damage claims. I strongly advise future customers to take detailed photos and videos at pick-up and drop-off, and to be extremely cautious when dealing with Expedicar.

Very poor customer service and an inflexible, one-sided damage policy.
