Esso and Nectar giving misleading information
On 20th April 2023, I visited the Esso petrol station, around 16:00. I have kept the receipt as proof of purchase and proof of visit.
Before and since visiting I checked the nector.com website to check where was the nearest please I could do this (Collect and Spend Nectar points at Esso | Nectar).
After filling up £22.58 I asked the gentleman serving to redeem the £3.43. He responded quite abruptly that I was not able to do this. Calmly, I explained that I had checked but he kept repeating that I could not.
I then asked for the manager’s contact details. The man refused to give me any contact details of either the manager or the company. He then offered to ring the manager and spoke to the manager in a foreign language. I certainly had no understanding of the conversation. This took about 5 minutes then he hung up the phone.
The man then offered to discount my bill 5p per litre but did NOT tell me that this would be done by deducting 300 Nectar points from my account. The moment he produced this deduction receipt I instructed him to cancel this immediately which he did. This took a further couple of minutes.
I then asked the man for contact details again and he refused to give me any. I asked how I would contact the manager. He replied when the manager comes in, I could speak with him. I then asked him, how would I know when the manager is due to come in. He did not reply. I said nothing further and left.
There were several people behind me by this point in the queue and as well as the embarrassment I suffered; they must have been frustrated at hearing what I was experiencing. I know I would have been.
I am shocked by the poor customer service offered in this garage and that Nectar have not safeguarded this happening.
Bad customer experience
I went there for car wash today. I put £2 coin, machine swallowed then I put another £1 twice then machine started. Gave me 6 minutes when time is going to finish I put another £2 coin. Machine gave me any time. Then I spoke to the staff about this problem. She accepted problems with machine She said manager isn’t here so she said I will tell the manager. Can’t refund u. I went back spoke to the manager he said machine had no problem. So he refused to refund money. I believe they’re robbed customers. So be careful if you’re using their service. Manager is rude, ill mannered, ignorant.

I realised I lost my bank card after fuelling 15 pounds today. The attendant stated to leave my licence in lieu so I thought that's a relief and intended to return tomorrow when the bank opens. So at this stage I'm embarrassed but happy at the solution.
To my amazement, 2/3 hours later at 10.20 in the evening I've got the attendant and another man banging on my door, I explained from the window that I'm in bed and reiterated we would return and pay in the shop tomorrow as promised but they demanded payment there and then. This is caught on my cctv and was quite frightening. He stated it'll be 1000 pounds tomorrow and I can only pay him between 1 and 6, so we had to pay him there and then.
I accept our error but this is surely not how esso/asda go about things. We are left truly scared by this experience.
Please respond to explain
Esso North Berwick
Esso North Berwick
Air compressor not working and attendant refused to refund my £1 due to their 'no refund policy'.
Taking money for a service and then not providing it is a form of theft!
Esso in Ackworth
Esso in Ackworth, West Yorkshire. Always use this Petrol Station. Sometimes get £10 cash back in coins to use the Jet Wash. Today they refused. Looks like the other Petrol Station in the village will be getting our £100 plus a week.
Esso Mushon
Esso Mushon , Scarborough a little garage with a air tyres machine chronic bad performance+ 50 p each time! The manager? quite rude and "not responsive.
Scandalous!!!!!
Absolutely unbelievable how you use a third party good for nothing company to issue me a parking ticket for queuing to use your car wash!!!!!... Scandalous as if you are not making enough on fuel already!!! I Cant even appeal as I had a problem with my post...
False advertising Tenterden esso
Esso CB motors tenterden did not honour the 5p off per litre promotion yet advertisement was on the pump. Refused to honour once I filled up.
non-refund
I will tell you what happened: failure to refuel on 25/04/2022 at 17.27 at the Esso petrol station in Vieste (FG-Italy) E. Mattei seafront due to timeout of the petrol pump of € 10. I had the receipt printed for the refund but the totem did not explain how to enter the code to refuel. Not being a resident in the area, I went away hoping for a refund from the parent company. All described to the exxonmobil customer service who merely replied that he had forwarded my details with the refund receipt attached to the manager who would contact me as soon as possible. What never happened. It is not convenient for me to return to the place because as already mentioned I live more than 200 km from the place.
If you can, stay away from this brand: it is unreliable. I wanted to give no stars but it's not possible.
THANK YOU EXXONN MOBIL for taking a…
THANK YOU EXXONN MOBIL for taking a stand on not flying the Pride and BLM flag(s) at your corporate office. Finally a company stepping up. Will for sure by gas from this company. I am not saying I am for or against (Pride) just not the place for those flags. A flag should be flown at a business to represent the country it’s in not a particular group(s).
Charged £30 Admin fee for apparent Non Payment
Charged £30 Admin fee, on top of The £46 charge, by VARS for ‘Non Payment of fuel’
Used the Esso App. Checked back and there is no record of the transaction. No idea what happened.
Has been my go-to garage for 10 years. Hadn’t managed to work the Esso App at all until finally made a transaction (at the same garage), the month before.
Esso Customer Service notified, await response. They said not to pay for the moment Have till Friday before ‘fine’ goes up a further £30. (Emailed VARS - they insist I do have to pay)
Unable to speak to Euro Garage who own the garage. Have emailed a director.
Very stressed and annoyed. Takes too long to resolve a very simple error. Could just walk across the road and pay garage!
The Majority of Apple App Store recent reviews on the Esso App are appalling. Many about payment issues. Why isn’t the app withdrawn (by Esso and Euro Garage.
Profiteering
9th March 2022. All the petrol stations round us are charging a bit over 160p for diesel. Esso West Byfleet 177p !! And a similar differential for unleaded. People used to get locked up for this sort of behaviour last time Europe was in a war.
Not working, not listening....
With reference to the above named subject, I've experienced another issue with this app.
It appears that ESSO have added a new payment option, which apparently is more of an unnecessary inconvenience with no options to edit an amount between £40 and £70.
If I select £40, I'd been under 30L, this would make me to be ineligible for the Nectar points bonus offer.
The app doesn't give an option to select £50 manually, so I selected £70.
My recent receipt for the sum of £47.10 dated 23/08/2021, shows you a similar amount in my transaction history of which can be verified in my last six payments to all be over £40, with an average payment of £53.18.
As my fuel stopped at my average amount of £40 plus (£47.10), I observed that a receipt on my app was not visible.
The Esso cashier came out, to advise me that I will have to pay on the till inside the shop.
Whilst I provided the cashier with my nectar card, it didn't add any of the bonus points offers from my app, which I was eligible for!
As this would've been my 50th transaction with Esso via the mobile app, I would've earn 50 points!
In addition to that, my Nectar Bonus Points offer for 5X bonus points, officially closed on 31/08/2021.
I completed all 8 fills in total, and the last fill of which 7 were successfully made via the Esso mobile app, this meant that the 8th fill would provide me with a bonus of 500 Nectar points.
On top of that, I had a 5X points offer on my next fill which expired in 2 days. This was also excluded.
In total, an outstanding points bonus balance of 550 points, plus bonus points of 5X was due to my Nectar.com account.
This has been a regular occurrence with the Esso app. I had to write in via email, with proof of purchase to get these points back.
When you submit feedback on the issue, it appears to be a wasted exercise. I'm sure many other consumers are experiencing the same issues.
I've decided that I'm not going to use Esso no more and I'm returning back to BP without the Nectar Points!
Brilliant customer service received…
Brilliant customer service received yesterday from Jackie and Rishi at the Esso Petrol station, (at PARK ROW, BRISTOL BS1 5LJ). They were both extremely helpful, courteous and polite and the service was much appreciated by me and my daughters. I think this is the best petrol station in Bristol! They sell chilled beers & wine as well as petrol & diesel, with a car wash facility too. Thank you both very much.
Pretty good
Your stores are great and I’ve never had an issue, sometimes the customer service could be a bit better but otherwise it’s a good experience.
WEX what a joke
We were with them for 18 months, spent over 100K, never missed a payment we changed names. But kept the vehicles and drivers the same then they just stopped all our cards without warning. leaving our trucks stranded. Then said they needed £5000 on account for 18 months to build trust back up. Honestly, this company wouldn't know trust or loyalty if it was sat in front of them. We are now in talks with Shell who after seeing the invoices and money we spent with WEX, said no problem we will get you back on the road. The cheek of asking for £5000, I felt ashamed for them...
