I made an enquiry back in June 2023, dealt with Helen who promised me the world and gave a good deal, that’s what I thought. I said I think about it and get back to them. Next thing I had Abbie phoning me and a week later agreed to go with them. I didn’t have a site visit as she said that they can go by photos.
Dates kept slipping and they knew I wanted this completed ready for my birthday. It was supposed to be completed in August but didn’t start work until mid September , close to my birthday. They made so many excuses such as death, sickness and staff shortages.
I had to pay a deposit to reserve the date, on the day had to pay another amount so the boys could start work. They were only there for an hour as the garden was on a slope and the office phoned me to say that the boys have to level out the ground which means £2k for a weeks labour and £350 for a skip and that they will be back once the skip arrived. A few days later the boys turned up to do the work, they took a side fence down to give them access as the side gate would have mean that they had to walk around. To cut a long story short, they gave up as it was too much hard work. They suggested that they will need put down ground screws and won’t charge me extra for it, even though on my quote it was ground screws they were using and had told Helen it was on a slight slope, so really I didn’t get that free. Again days kept slipping for some one to come over and start working.
The build was completed and didn’t lay the flooring down as plasters were booked on the weekend, who didn’t turn up and wasted a day waiting for them. The build guys turned up on Monday, tidied up and cleaned the garden room. I wasn’t happy with the design and told Abbie, they ran out of cladding the wood supplied for the decking used that to cover up the side so had no decking at all as promised. To have more cladding be more money which I was running out of. Three days later the plasters turned up, they damaged the floor, didn’t clean their mess, field up a bin with their rubbish which the bin man refused to collect, emptied their buckets on my artificial grass and damaged it and blocked our drain too. Complained as the walls looked a mess etc
The electrican cam the next day and agreed that the plastering was chucked on and shocked with the mess. The electrician had to lift up patio slabs to run his cable and now one of us keeps tripping over it.
I kept being pressured to pay them even though the work wasn’t complete. Thankfully have kept all correspondence from emails and text messages for evidence. Even though I wasn’t happy with the build they finished mid October. They even got future customers to view my room and even they said that the finish was not great.
June this year I reported that the storeroom door has dropped and won’t close , then a week later the bi fold doors were not opening and a few times my daughter and her friends got locked in and thought that she was just mucking around until I got locked in there.
They pry on the vulnerable as they knew my mum passed away during lockdown and was using my inheritance and have a garden to in her memory, they scammed me out of almost all of it.
After chasing up the doors in July Abbie told me to be patient as they going through a big recruitment process and suffering with staff shortages. I wasn’t going to write a review but they have blocked me from their fb page, ignoring emails and blocked on WhatsApp and refused post. I have no idea what to do, now

Like almost all the recent reviews, I have also been scammed and have now reported them to Action Fraud.
Urge all others to do so too. They will stop at nothing. I was a recent victim. I am completely convinced they took my deposit fraudulently as defined by The Fraud Act. I made sure I paid by credit card so hope to get my money back under s75 BUT they should not get away with this. I demanded my money back on 28/08/24 and lo and behold the next day I got a letter - Notice of Company liquidation. This did not happen overnight by the sounds of it.

DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS

If there was a 0 star, I would provide that. I have had extremely poor scammy experience with Five Counties Garden room, lost £8k and have no service, no room, just a bunch of lies and lost money. And I am not the only one, from my knowledge there are in excess of 40 families that I have learnt of in just the last 4 – 6 weeks and I am sure there are plenty more.

As a background, I had spoken with Abbie around the same time I was speaking with a few other companies to get quotes for an office room in my garden, Abbie was well presentable and friendly, hence I bought the services with them in the first place. But their reluctance from the point of deposit payment to confirming a date etc, I found very distrusting. I made sure I followed up everything on email once spoken, for my records. I am so disgusted with Abbie and the fact that I let her in my home, where I had my mum and my little one, absolutely furious that scammers think it is ok to enter peoples homes, learn about our lives and then do us so dirty with the hard earned money. If anything these people are cowards, that they go after honest and good families.

The worse part is that they pushed and pressured me to make online payments, instead of debit card payments and when I refused, they had a van with 2 contractors wait out my front door all day until I made the first payment, on top of the deposit already paid to even start works. I suspect most scammers know the lesser protection banks provide on online payments. They made excuses like their card machine was not working, everyone was making online payments etc. and pressured me so much into making online instant payments for the first instalment and now they are not even returning emails with refund requests, it is lost money because banks don't protect online payments and of course Scott Pearce and Abbie know this, why else would suddenly their card terminal break down or not work, why else would it be a hassle to take a debit card payment which also takes only seconds. I was coerced into paying, but in hopes of having my garden room done I did follow through and now I my money is gone.

This company seems to have been running scams for nearly 18 - 20 months, and this is not their first time. I have now spoken to a few other companies in the area and all who know the MD Scott Pearce, and his predecessor as well as team of Abbie and Emily sadly being part of a well-known routine scamming business, that they start every few years under different names and scam people out of pocket for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Their contract paperwork is patchy, their pushiness for huge deposit and upfront (day 1 install payments) are all nothing short of scam because after these two big payments they literally stop turning up day 2 and nothing happens. Our garden room was promised to start on 1st July and finished by 5th July, however we are now in end of August and nothing has happened. They have erected an unsafe building in my garden with a toddler and pets, that my own garden has been rendered unusable during summer. It will cost me more to just get rid of the stuff. You do not want to work with these guys and be aware, they are changing names and popping new companies to continue this fraudulent behaviour. Be aware and do not work with any company that is not operational for at least 5 years, from my experience after this scam.

The company are scammers, they fed me a load of lies, took my £4,500 deposit and never heard from them again! DO not fall for thete lies. They have blocked me and cut off all phone lines.

This is a terrible company. They have my money and moved my date six times by now. I belive they are a scam and multiple people have reported them, including myself. If you hear this name, or Alda Garden Rooms or the name Scott Pearce anywhere, please run away and report

Beware! We had a lucky escape from ordering with this company. We did our homework! They have CCJs (County Court Judgements) and a very unhealthy balance on Companies House. The quote received on headed paper was very unprofessional and they do not charge VAT. They would only need to build 4/5 rooms a year to hit the VAT threshold. The pressure from the admin team was relentless, money knocked off the original quote, returnable deposit required to secure a build date and even when we asked for them not to keep calling, it didn’t stop them. I know other people have not been so lucky.

If I could give 0 for this review then I would.

We have held out on our review with a hope they would, as promised, put our build right or issue reimbursement to rectify.

We have been working with them since May 2023 to design an annexe, for which we have planning permission. Having not undertaken this process before we discovered it would need to be under Building Regulations and Five Counties assured us that they would work with the authority to make it compliant. In fact, as the 'specialists' they should have understood and advised us on this themselves.

The build started in December 2023, very little of it is actually passable and in a disgraceful state. The ceiling is not level, the plasterboards are poorly installed and incorrect, the door frames are not flush, the ceiling height is inaccurate...we are having to resort to wholesale changes simply to put this right.

They keep pushing back correspondence, do not take any accountability, refuse to answer phone calls. They changed their email address without informing us. They changed their trading address on Companies House to a pub which does not reflect the 'office block' address on their website. This was shortly after I sent a recorded delivery letter to their previous address, which seems to be a residence. They are duplicating their instagram and Facebook accounts due to so many bad responses and comments.

We have offered them to come and discuss this in person so many times and that has also been ignored.

We have since sought the advice of trusted traders who report that the level of work is akin to a novice DIY'er.
To add insult to injury they left waste on site, spoke to me in a derogatory manner and misled us.

The pre-sales relationship is super diligent and friendly to lure you into a sale but have no intention of delivering a good service. They deliver empty promises and make countless excuses.

This has hands down been the worst experience of our lives - they show no concern to their customers and the responsibility they hold for ruining people's dreams, lives and life-savings. We have paid close to £38k for a space that is unfinished and unusable.

If they had any integrity they would be calling their customers to put his right. But they are cowboys and scammers.

If you encounter this company, do not walk away...run!

Throughout our build we had delays. They built the structure too small and foundations were not big enough even to support the too small structure. The electrician damaged the side of our house and did not repair it. They did actually come back to put some more foundations in, but it looks awful and unfinished. We had to have another company in as the doors would not shut properly or lock and Five Counties kept making appointments to come out and not showing up stating either a vehicle had broken down or someone had died or not enough staff. The people who came to fix the doors said that the structure had not been built correctly and although they fixed it for now it will drop again so we will constantly have issues.

I have since been contacted by other unhappy customers of Five Counties Garden Rooms who have lost thousands of pounds. I cannot stress enough that you must not use this company.

We have waited months to leave this review, mainly to give Five counties the opportunity to complete our garden room to a decent standard that you would expect from any reputable company.
Unfortunately this hasn’t happened so it’s now time to share our experience to anyone who is considering using this company.
From the beginning, the process was just what you’d expect and perhaps more, very responsive to emails and answered any queries in a friendly helpful and timely manor, the sales person provided us with scaled drawings as I needed to obtain planning permission for my building. Needless to say we were very confident that Five Counties Garden Rooms were who we wanted to use. After paying the 30% initial payment things very quickly began to show a lack of good customer service, we were promised dates that came and went either cancelled or on occasions just didn’t show,
The build date was booked in to commence on the 18th March, this then got pushed back twice until it finally started on 8th April. Concrete pad was laid and before it was even finished we were hassled for 2nd payment, sales person emailed, text and rang in quick succession until it was paid.
Lads came out 2nd day to start building, seemed to be going well, few issues with things that were promised during the sales process that hadn’t been relayed to the builders but they sorted that and put right.
External Build was completed within five days….Great, but it really wasn’t, the guys hadn’t even left the site and again I was hassled for 3rd instalment, I was out at work and hadn’t even got home to check the job.
I refused to pay as there were lots of issues with the quality of the work which was promised to be sorted the following day, this was done and payment made. Then there were more problems which they had to come out to sort again.
Electrics done, best tradesperson that we had on this job.
Bad job with the plastering, and then a bad and very unprofessional job done by the floor fitter.
The doors are still wrong and promised to be changed, one of the doors doesn’t even open unless you lift it up, lots of deep scratches in one of the window panels, large gaps where you can see the timber under the cladding, cracked plaster work, decking boards popping up, overall a very sub standard job.
This has caused so much unnecessary stress and upset and so much of our time lost sending emails, messages, calling etc which are just ignored and there is still no sign of the job being completed 3 months later.
This is the only place to review, no Google reviews, no Facebook reviews on the business page, it seems the company are minimising the options to leave negative reviews, surely if you are confident you are providing a good service you would use all the channels possible to encourage people to review you.
I would not recommend this company to anyone. Terrible.

I am extremely disappointed with the service from Five Counties Garden Rooms. I initially contracted them in May 2024 to build a garden room, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating and unprofessional.

The initial installation date was set for mid-July 2024, which was then postponed to early August without clear communication. As of early August, the work has yet to commence. Throughout this period, I have faced significant challenges in getting timely responses from the company. Emails and phone calls often went unanswered, adding to my frustration and uncertainty about the project’s status. When I did receive responses, they were inconsistent and failed to provide concrete plans or timelines. Most recently, I was assured that the team would arrive on a specified date, only to be informed on the day of that there would be yet another delay.

The entire experience has been marred by a lack of professionalism. Despite being sympathetic to individual circumstances such as personal health issues, the company’s overall handling of my project has been subpar.

I have lost confidence in Five Counties Garden Rooms’ ability to complete the project and have formally requested a refund of my deposit. I am now in the process of seeking resolution through my credit card provider under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

I cannot recommend Five Counties Garden Rooms based on my experience. The repeated delays, poor communication, and lack of professionalism have caused significant stress and inconvenience. Potential customers should be aware of these issues before considering their services.

Quite honestly the worst experience we've ever had when working with a construction firm. We are over 7 months into what was promised to be a 10-day build of a basic garden room, and the team at Five Counties have left us high and dry.

Excuse after excuse, with their tradesmen (supposedly) constantly cancelling at the last minute - the whole experience has been an absolute nightmare and the single most stressful construction project we've ever undertaken.

As mentioned on other review sites, fantastic service up until the build starts - but as soon as the payment installations are paid, it takes DAYS / WEEKS of constant chasing to get anything from them - even then their promised dates fall through - until they just don't reply at all. We've been as accommodating as possible, but it hasn't resulted in any progress.

We are reporting Five Counties to Trading Standards and taking legal action to recoup our money. We are left with a building site in our back garden, a sub standard room and more than £20k out of pocket. It is difficult to put into words how stressful this has been - suffice to say I STRONGLY advise anyone against using their services. Absolute nightmare.

UPDATE - there is a Facebook group for Unhappy Clients of Five Counties - all of the experiences are the same, poor workmanship, delayed builds, excuse after excuse, legal action - our experience with this company is not isolated!!!!!

I honestly wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
