You use to be able to update your ad…
You use to be able to update your ad and be able to go to the top of page 1 but not anymore. Even if you pay, your ad won't be on page 1 but near the last couple pages. I'm lucky to receive a couple messages within a week compare to in the past, I would receive more than a couple a day. I get 10x more messages on Gumtree and Flatmatefinder where I won't be using Flatmates ever again! The changes are a nightmare and makes Flatmates unusable for finding tenants. The people at Flatmates seriously don't care where this COVID-19 pandemic has been a nightmare for us landlords. These changes are PURE EVIL!!

I had no luck with this site that chargers you when it's the landlord that should be charged. It's kind of pricey cause I'm a student. I had better luck on Gumtree.

Super frustrating interface, definitely not made for "Flatmates"
Pretty frustrating site. You can't save searches; you can't hide listings you've looked at previously. You can't filter for nearly enough things (this is an Australian site and you can't filter for Air Conditioning!). You can't really build a decent profile, you can't easily navigate their map design, and the design is bloated and takes up way too much screen space. FlatmateFinders is a way better design, but Flatmates.com has used their market position and money to market better and now has all the properties... and none of the useful interface. It's a damn shame I have to use this site as it's a huge pain in the rear.
Edit: Look at their reply- it's friendly enough boilerplate, but look at what it reveals. Flatmates.com thinks 'saving a search' means being able to enter the same search terms, but don't consider being able to favorite/hide places within a specific search criteria, or being able to add/edit filters within a search you've already conducted. Being able to filter for AC is a 'feature' that they need to send to their design team to consider - when it should be a *basic* search filter.
Honestly, the more I use this site the more garbage I find. Do they do ANY user testing at all?

I always have had a good experience with Flatmates.com, however, I wish for Early Bird there was a 10 days or a month free trial. But, apart from this, everything is very good.

no reply - no responses - paid the highest amount to market it. Waste of time and money
No one came!!!
I was registered on Flat mates for several months. In that time I had one person request to have a look & one person I wrote to asking if they has seen my ad. Both were to come have a look but seemed to not have time to look.
Oh yes we will come as I communicated a few times but neither did arrange to come. It was disappointing.
I then removed my advertisement .

I've been using Flatmates for a couple of weeks where just before the 14 days is over, they banned my account for no reason. I have sent emails without any reply. Looks like the 1 star reviews are correct here.

Where is the Negative 5 star?!
When the area I'm wanting to move to is in a current crisis this website does not benefit those who genuinely seek somewhere to live. I sent so many messages to a whole lot of listings and not one reply. This website needs to be seriously looked at and should be ashamed of themselves for letting down the communities and leaving those legit home seekers out to suffer.

Don't wait your time, I sent a whole lot of messages but I never received one reply. I think these ads are all fake.

Flatmates.com.au does work OK
Flatmates.com.au does work OK. The site is easy to use, suggests how to write the ad, and I have always had leads and found my flatmate. However, I have found flatmates using the site to be uncontrolled / unsupervised / unmanaged leading a huge waste of my time as someone offering house sharing.
Despite having "female only", "no smoking" and "no couples" ticked on my ad, I was messaged by 7 men - none of whom had listed profiles on the site. This is starting to border on dangerous. One was a professed school boy mucking about. There was the 18 yr old smoker who wanted to live near his girlfriend. The young couple still living in their family with "no peace or privacy." 2 men spoke to me as if I was running a boarding house and would provide everything and they would move in tomorrow. One chap wanted a sunroom. I said nope - but I understand what you mean, my neighbour has one. So, he asked, could I go and ask the neighbour if he could move into their house? I ignored him, to have him write 2 weeks later asking how I got on asking the neighbour on his behalf. The man who was too busy to visit and sent one of his employees over instead for the viewing. The only man who contacted me with a listing, visited the house, was very polite, took the room and 3 weeks later did a runner whilst I was in the other room - leaving a pile of stuff behind. Couldn't come and say "I've decided to leave". Thank goodness for a bond.
Like ..... who interacts like this? Why would I invite you into my home, let alone live in my home?
I wrote to 5 women who advertised profiles on the site. only 1 replied and she moved in! The other 4 - nothing.
Until Flatmates.com.au starts to work with the seekers to have sensible policies and monitors and tracks what people are doing I will be guarded and only partially mark them. They esp. need to understand they are more than a software company - they allow people to be unlisted but have the ability to contact others - that is dangerous for the unwary and I wish Flatmates would have more controlling structures in place.

The worst site with terrible customer service. Most people don’t reply. There’s no incentive for the users to reply to each other and when I tried to raise this they were very dismissive. The photos that appear very hard to see. The format is cluttered. The customer service is bizarre. I literally got a user message me, telling me to sneak someone into the country during quarantine and, when I didn’t reply, to smell his “ridunculous ass” and something to do with burritos. Customer service called this a tenancy dispute? He wasn’t a tenant? Then they said his messages were normal and totally fine and he was genuine and this was just a “dispute”. Even though I never replied to these bizarre messages. Very very expensive and very low yield in finding a flatmate

Help me speak to someone please
I have used Flatmates successfully so it has helped me in the past but this time i have messaged over a dozen people with no reply and that seems odd so I tried to find a contact number or email and there is none. What company does not give you a chance to contact them and if there is one it is hidden well enough for me to not find it .... Can you please help Cheers Karen :-/

The site prevents you from messaging certain people (for me it happened to be the two places I most wanted to see) without buying a subscription. They already have ads so not sure why this is necessary. Haven't tried it on desktop but the mobile version of the site is clunky but does the job I guess.
