Car's tires in bad conditions, the customer has to pay for it
Recently I needed a short round trip from Amsterdam to Leiden so I picked up a Peugeot e-208 from Free2Move in Amsterdam. One of the tires broke on the highway so I had to make an emergency stop. It turns out the tires are in very bad conditions. Free2Move sent the towing service. Afterwards, Free2Move sent me the bills to pay for the towing service and the repair of the broken tire. As a customer I find it quite unfair as Free2Move has responsibility to perform tire maintenance on time rather leaving the customer risking his own safety on the road and pay for their bills.
Anyway I won't use Free2Move anymore.
I have been using the service for…
I have been using the service for years. Recently, the cars that are available in Amsterdam are in really poor conditions. In my latest rental the vehicle was clearly dangerous to drive. I tried to send a complaint via the app but the section dedicated to "car demages" did not allow me to open a claim - a bug or intentional. Therefore I used other sections to upload pictures and explain the issue. The customer service of these other departments simply told me to contact someone else and closed the case twice. So I'm left without answers after weeks of trying.
Charge for damage I didn't cause
During a normal and calm ride, the tire of my Free2Move rental car broke. It was dangerous and stressful. I took care of the car, the police, the towing, the parking. Despite this being not my fault, Free2Move has charged me 250 euro's without an explanation. Despite repeatedly asking, they refuse to provide any reports or proof of why they think I'm responsible for the damage, and have since resorted to entirely ignoring my requests. Their previous emails were vague, stating that I should have known that the tires were too soft, or that it's my fault because I drove 23km with the car before the tire broke. I'm starting to suspect this is how they pay for the maintenance of their cars, just let someone drive a badly maintained vehicle to damage and then blame them. I'm looking into legal options, as Free2Move is not providing explanation.
I need transparency about the cause of the damage from Free2Move, before being charged. Or even after being charged. I feel scammed by the company.
This was Free2Move Amsterdam
Very bad experience with Free2move in Amsterdam
I rented a car for a simple trip, but the first car had a warning light and was shaking while driving. I contacted customer service immediately and was told to leave it and rent another car. I followed their instructions exactly.
Then the second car had a similar issue too, so I had to rent a third car on the same day. I lost time, had a very stressful day, and paid more than 70 euros because their first two cars had problems.
Later, customer service admitted there were issues and even gave me a small credit. But 12 days later, around 250 euros was automatically debited from my bank account for repair costs anyway.
So first they acknowledge the issue, then they still blame and charge the customer.
What worries me even more is that while reading reviews here, I found other people describing very similar experiences: customer service says one thing, then later the customer receives charges or claims. That is a very bad sign.
Based on my experience in Amsterdam, I would be very careful with this company.
A dangerous "Operational Trap" for customers - Safety and Ethics Alert!
Free2move’s current business model in Amsterdam seems to be based on shifting operational costs onto unsuspecting customers. My partner was allowed to rent a car (X-050-NK) that was already at a critical battery level. No warning was shown.
During the trip, the car entered 'Turtle Mode' in traffic—a massive safety hazard for me and my partner. After this dangerous experience, they fined my partner 50 EUR for the low battery.
The most unethical part: The app is designed to show pop-up warnings for alcohol and car damage to protect the company's assets, yet it fails to show a warning for low battery. This lack of 'Informed Consent' is a trap. By allowing users to rent cars that are unfit for use, Free2move avoids the cost of their own charging operations and instead profits from unfair fines.
Logically, any vehicle made available for rent in Amsterdam should be capable of completing a standard cross-city trip (approx. 20 km) without falling into a 'penalty zone' (<10% battery). If a vehicle has less than 20 km of usable range above your penalty threshold, it is technically 'unfit for service.' By failing to provide a range warning at the start of the rental, Free2move is setting a trap where the customer is guaranteed to be fined regardless of how carefully they drive. This contradicts the principle of 'Reasonable Expectation' under Dutch Consumer Law.
There is a pending dispute (Ref: R2602-35 / Ticket #02604228) but we are still receiving automated debt threats. This is not just a technical error; it is a predatory and bad-faith business practice. I am now escalating this matter to the ACM (ConsuWijzer). Potential users, beware!
Misleading system made me miss my train and cost me money
This was one of the most frustrating rental experiences I’ve ever had. I was misled for 4–5 HOURS by the app, being directed to supposed “charging poles” and designated “home areas” where I should have been able to end my trip. Every time I arrived, there were NO charging poles at all, or when I parked within the marked home area, the app simply would not allow me to end the trip. I was stuck driving around Paris trying to follow incorrect instructions from their own system. Because of this complete failure, I missed my train from Paris to Amsterdam, which cost me a significant amount of money. This was not a small inconvenience, it directly impacted my travel plans and finances. A car-sharing company should provide accurate information and a functioning end-trip system. Instead, I lost hours, missed my train, and received no effective support.
If your entire schedule depends on being somewhere on time, do not rely on this service.

I pick up the car in Amsterdam north
I pick up the car in Amsterdam north, then I return the car to same place, but I get charged 2.99 euro for not parking in the city centre. That fee of 2.99 was already charged by previous user, so why they charged me as well. If the previous user of the car was charged 2.99, then I can't be charged for that amount. The cars are always very dirty, windscreen is always so dirty, you need to clean it your self if you want to see the road.
Nightmare parking booking
Nightmare
I booked a parking lot close to the Amsterdam airport through TravelCar/Free2Move. When I arrived to the address provided in the reservation ( local partner Valet Parking Outdoor/ 24/7 the parking did not exist. I spent 1 hour driving around the airport trying to find the place. Nobody answered the phone provided by TravelCar/Free2Move in the reservation voucher either in the Netherlands nor in France. I had no option than to leave the car in a parking at my cost. I complained and after a few days I received a message informing me that you Free2Move simply and unilaterally decide to cancel our contract so I am stuck with the higher cost of the emergency parking.
The whole experience is unsatisfactory and disappointing.
