Recently I needed a short round trip from Amsterdam to Leiden so I picked up a Peugeot e-208 from Free2Move in Amsterdam. One of the tires broke on the highway so I had to make an emergency stop. It... See more

BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU RENT FROM…
BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU RENT FROM FREE2MOVE — BECAUSE ONCE SOMETHING GOES WRONG, YOU MAY BE COMPLETELY ON YOUR OWN.
I honestly wish I had read more reviews before using Free2move.
I rented a car in Vienna, and what happened afterward was incredibly frustrating.
I accidentally left my Insta360 X3 camera on the driver's seat when I finished the rental. I closed the car, and when I realized what had happened, I tried to get back into the vehicle.
And this is where the nightmare started.
Once the rental was closed, I couldn't simply reopen the car and retrieve my belongings.
Imagine leaving something extremely important inside — your passport, phone, wallet, money, camera, laptop, luggage… anything.
You might think:
"It's okay, I'll just contact customer support and they'll help me."
Think again.
My experience was that getting meaningful help was extremely difficult. You're basically left hoping that someone eventually finds your belongings and hands them in.
I even went to the Fundservice center in Vienna myself and was told to wait two weeks and check again.
Two weeks.
For something that could potentially be sitting somewhere in a vehicle that was being used by other customers.
And that's not the only issue I've experienced.
The condition of the cars can also be a serious concern. You can get into the vehicle thinking everything is fine, start your rental, and then suddenly encounter an engine or mechanical problem.
And when problems happen, the customer can end up dealing with questions about responsibility and potential charges — even when you don't believe you caused the problem.
At that point, you start asking yourself:
What exactly am I paying for?
A car rental service isn't only supposed to work when everything goes perfectly.
The real test of a company is what happens when something goes wrong.
And unfortunately, my experience with Free2move has left me extremely disappointed.
I lost a camera.
I tried to get help.
I went to the lost-and-found service.
I followed the instructions.
And I'm still left wondering whether I'll ever see my belongings again.
So if you're thinking about using Free2move, read the terms, understand what happens when you close the rental, and think twice about leaving anything valuable inside the car.
Because when everything works, every company looks good.
You discover the real company when you have a problem.
Beware of geographic limitations
Beware of geographic limitations - I used the car well within the districts in Vienna (close to the Lainer Tiergarten in Ober St. Veit) to then notice that I'm far outside of their geographical limitations. So instead of parking the car I had to drive back to where I just came from and then take a bus. Very inconvenient. The car itself was also fairly dirty. I raised this with customer support, and in their Germanic way, they referred to the Terms and Conditions which of course nobody looks at before you start the car. I've delete the app now and will use the car rentals from city of Vienna (google wienmobil auto).
No customer service…
2 months ago Free2move asked me to upload my driving licence. The process was successful but I then get a message to say that there was a technical issue. I have sent weekly reminders but nothing has happened. Even visited their "offices" in Vienna but they don't exist despite being shown as being valid on their website.
If they want to cancel my membership I wish they would just say so.
Customer service is null.
