I have to point out the unfair practices of this company. Cancel your reservation, where you will lose your payment or pay more! Moreover, as soon as your flight is delayed, or you book at a time when you do not know what time you will land and give an approximate time, this company does you a huge favor by not canceling your reservation - they are good, right!? You are in a situation where there is no way back, they put customers in a dead end. Every time I rented a car, it did not matter if it was a credit or debit card - not here! You pay an absurd amount of insurance for not having a credit card! All you have to do is block the amount they need, but that is not possible here! Never again! As a wait, I was not the only one who had this problem, apparently it is standard for the company - to squeeze tourists!

Gualdieri rent : Left stranded without a car.
Mid June, we rented a car from Gualdieri rent in Fiumicino (Rome airport) through Discover cars (confirmation number D010722169-DHS5). We had rented several times before with Discover cars in many european countries with no problem whatsoever. This time (and for the first time in decades of travelling to Europe), we were denied our paid for rental when showing our Canadian drivers licence in spite of the fact that the contract states that : « A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit. ». Canadian driver licences are written in French or in English thus in Roman letters.
The Gualdieri rent employee was hostile, rude and refused any form of help. When we requested that he contact Discover cars to clarify the situation (we had just landed from a transatlantic flight and did no have an international phone), he put us in contact with someone who spoke English with a heavy Italian accent claiming to be a representative of Discover cars. That person was of no help either, repeating that we needed an international drivers licence and that we were not entitled to a refund … We now doubt that the person on the phone was from Discover cars and feel that Discover cars should investigate this incident as it could be a serious offense of impersonating someone (the phone call was made from Gualdieri rent in Fiumicino on June 13, 2025).
Basically we were left stranded without a car and no refund. As we had booked several reservations in Toscany, we returned to the airport and rented a car with one of the well established car rental companies and had no problems whatsoever with our Canadian drivers licence.
We feel travellers should be made aware of Guadieri rents attitude toward their customers, their lack of respect and their lack of honesty.
Other reviews of Gualdieri customers state that were charged for pre-existing damages to their rental car … Draw your own conclusions.
We fell that Discovery cars has the responsability to ensure that the companies that they advertise and promote are honest.

Appalling return service at Catania. There was no one in the office by the return area. There was no one checking the cars. We waited. We took a video of the car. There was a sign saying to go to the office. We assumed that meant the office in the airport. We went there. We waited 40 minutes to be seen. The staff at the desk refused to accept the keys. They implied we were lying. They said there was someone by the car and we had to go back there. They refused to help.

The collection place should have been „on airport” but in fact was 500m away from the airport. We were travelling with my disabled mum and it had caused us a great deal of trouble. The car we have received was supposed to be a full size and that’s what we’ve paid for. Instead we have received compact suv. The car was dirty both inside and outside and had the problem with breaks. On return the guy was late and I had to wait for him. Very bad experience.

Contrary to all the negative reviews here, my experience with Galdierirent has been positive. I rented with them twice in two different locations, Bergamo and Venice airports. I had no issues when returning the cars, and the hold deposits have been returned swiftly.

I cannot give a single star to Galdieri Rent in Catania. We rented a car trough a broker and the people from Galdieri wouldn't accept the fact that we took an insurance via the broker. They insisted that we had to take their insurance, which was 3 times the price.
This means the conditions of the rent were changed by Galdieri. We could not accept these new and more expensive conditions, They told us that they could not cancel the agreement, we should contact the broker.
The broker reassured us that we were not obliged to take the extra insurance by Galdieri, and guarantees that we could have the car under the conditions of the booking, but in the meantime (5 to 10 minutes calling the broker) GARDIENI GAVE OUR CAR TO OTHER PEOPLE. They just said that the car was rented out and there was no other car available...
Result: no car, no refund, a whole morning lost at the rental station, A TOTAL SCAM! NEVER EVER TRUST THE CONDITIONS BY GARDIENI CAR RENTAL.

The rental company is a scam, they cheat tourists. I never recommend this car rental to anyone. When returning the car, they tried to find ways to cheat us, and they succeeded, and it was the Wheel cover that had scratches on it. Most likely they were already there when I received the car, but I never imagined that someone would use something like that against a customer. They charged us 121 euros for this scratch. It's good that I had my own insurer who covered this amount. After this case, reading the reviews, I understand that I am not the first customer to be cheated. NEVER USE THE GALDIERIRENT SERVICE, THEY WILL CHEAT YOU!!! Thank you for ruining your vacation in Italy, and ruining your impression of Italian people.

DO NOT use Galdieri Car Rental!
Even though their rates are cheaper, they ripped us off. Upon arrival, they refused to give us the fully prepaid car ($540) because we didn’t have an International Driving Permit (IDP) from the USA. We’ve traveled to Europe nearly every year, renting cars in different countries, and no agency has ever asked for this permit! Later, I found out that major rental companies do not require an IDP—but Galdieri insisted.
Our U.S. driver’s license has always been sufficient to rent a car, but not with Galdieri. We had booked through a third-party service, DiscoverCars, and when we asked Galdieri for a refund, they refused and told us to contact DiscoverCars. When we reached out to DiscoverCars, they claimed they couldn't help, marked our case as a no-show, and kept our $540! Outrageous! We did show up at the Galdieri garage—so why mark us as a no-show? It feels like a well-established scam operation between the two companies. NO service provided, no support, no solution, no refund. They just kept our $540 with peace in mind.
An hour later, we rented a car from a major company at Milan airport with no issues. They did not ask for an IDP—my U.S. driver’s license was enough.
I will never use Galdieri Car Rental or the DiscoverCars third-party service again!

I wanted to add that the young lady at the GaldieriRent counter on July 30, 2024, was very rude.

STAY AWAY!
For a "Scratch" that we believe was there before they charged us 210€. We even took a Photo of it. It is a planned rip off. We took photos before and had to send them the photos via WhatsApp. An employee came out and immediately found new scratches. The car is full of scratches. They claim that the exact same scratches don't show exactly on the Foto (the car is full of big and small scratches like this, more than 20). Not trustworthy. By the way they were handling this you can tell that they do this on regular basis. If you don't want to ruin your vacation, don't book there.

We rented from this place because it was walking distance from the airport in Napoli. Bad decision. That was the ONLY plus. From start to finish, this was a horrible experience. We do NOT recommend. It is a shoddy operation. When we returned the dilapidated, battered car whose windshield we HAD to clean before leaving the lot (it was so filthy) in order to see, we were told the front license plate was damaged by us. NOT TRUE. If it were done to us while parked which we wouldn't have known, it was a 1" dent to the top of the plate holder. They charged us $500!!!!! We REPEAT: do Not Rent from GALDIERI RENT at Napoli airport. You WILL SURELY REGRET IT!!!

Shuttle was quick, pickup was a little slow but I arrived at a very busy time just when the location opened. Got a hybrid Panda which was almost spotless and had amazing fuel economy. Return was smooth again, no surprise charges, absolutely fair company..

I've rented with Olbia airport branch (Sardinia), and everything went rather smoothly until I arrived home to find out I've been charged for the rental despite having prepaid the car up front via a partner website. I've contacted the branch, and they've clarified, again pretty swiftly, that it was indeed their system mistake and that they will refund the full amount. I've been advised it can take up to 20 working days.
It's been 7 weeks and still no money back. It's beyond ridiculous, because nowhere in Europe does it take so long!! I will now be escalating things in any way possible as I no longer believe they actually plan on returning the money.

🚩🚩🚩 we wait galdieri mini van Venice airport meeting point to Galdieri office 1h40min.
We call 6 times to Galdieri and they say every time car is coming, or you are wrong place.
Other companies car pick up peoples every 10min.
when we finally got to the rental office, there was an angry man at the counter who pretended he didn't understand english when we asked why it happened like this. Not good.
And now when I tell about the experience, the company's answer is that the fault is somewhere other than them.

This is probably the worst place to rent a car we got there had to wait about 2 hours because there were only one VERY rude woman working when we finally got inside to claim our car she said that we could use our debt card and if we would use it we would have to pay 38 euro per day we rented a car which is absolutely ridiculous when we finally got in the car it smelled rotten and like cigarettes, if i could’ve gave it zero stars i would’ve.

We returned home to the UK on Friday 27th September and are still waiting for the deposit of 100 euros (for returning a full fuel tank) to be returned to us. We were advised this would be refunded within 2-3 working days. Have chased via email 4 times.

As another car rental service canceled on us, we found a great offer for a premium car for around 100€ for 5 days. We were a little hesitant because of the bad reviews but we everything was fine. We took the full insurance for 190€ which is absolutely fine as a total price for rental and insurance for everything. The car we got was a DS7, very new, dropoff was fine, as they told us they didn't even checked anything and we could directly leave.

We were initially treated in a friendly manner by the two men at the counter. When they offered us roadside assistance insurance for €100, which we refused, the men became very unfriendly and started telling us horror stories about the mafia. In our destination area, wheels are stolen or windows smashed quite frequently. There was a very high probability that this would also happen to us. This grueling discussion pretty much ruined our vacation for the first few days. Instead of a VW, we were then only given a Fiat, which was extremely dirty inside and out, with sand in the trunk. Would never book here again because we started our vacation so stressed.
