This dealer is clearly not legit
This dealer is clearly not legit. Who calls a car dealer and makes an offer and doesn't hear anything for 7 days? Who tells multiple BS stories and none of them make any sense. Come on, if you are going to lie at least do it well. Every classic car vendor and website says to stay away from these people and I 1000% agree. They are bad news. I called, texted, and emailed. They just ignore you. Part of the problem is it's a bunch of millenials who have no idea how to run a business and several used car guys that are teaching them lots of bad habits. When they do answer the phone they won't answer your questions, or they answer them in a way you can tell is not truthful. They really don't give a crap if they sell a car or not.
And if, as the owner, you need to leave yourself a 5 star review to bring your average up....maybe you need to read the crap reviews and actually fix your business. Jessie in Denver is horrible.
Gateway Classics oil leaking.
Just arrived back in Las Vegas, from Gateway Classics, Nashville, Tn. Bob Pierce the salesman and I text each other several times about a Truck I was interested in buying. I ask him if it leaked any oil, he said no. I ask him if he thought it was a fast build or a solid truck, he said he didn't think so. He did try to sell me a different truck that I didn't want. I ask him for more pictures which never came. So after spending about $1000.00 on a trip to look at the truck, the first thing I noticed was a big oil spot under the truck. Bob said that might be from another vehicle that was parked there, so I got under and verified it for myself. Sure enough transmission leaking all around, when I told him, no reaction.
I will never deal with Gateway Classics again.
Wish I would have read all the reviews before I went there, could have saved my money.
Damaged car before trucking
After I bought a car there, they damaged the car before pick up. After that, no answer from anyone. They didn't assume responsibility nor did they answer any emails or calls. Eventhough I wrote the general manager, the operations manager ... no answer. No after sales. Stay away from that company.
Bad dealership …
I bought a car from them on September 14 and I still can’t get it titled. I need the cowl tag and the x owner has it but won’t give it to me. Gateway Motors says the x owner won’t return there calls and they won’t do anything about it. Ca. DMV says it still is under review. If I can’t get it registered it’s worthless. Also there is so many problems, and I have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix it. The restoration shop took the interior out today and found a dead decomposed rat with a bunch air fresheners around it. The manager says there is no warranty as is and so on.They said you looked at and you bought it. Most everything wrong you couldn’t see. Also they won’t let you drive on highway and if I had I definitely wouldn’t have bought it. Scary bad vibration! I could go on, but don’t have enough time! If you are thinking about buying a car from them BUYER BEWARE!!! Dennis Scroggs
Mysterious Leaking Fuel Filter
I recently consigned my vintage vehicle that was in pristine condition, with Gateway Classic Cars O"Fallon, IL and received not one offer or call after three months and over 7,000 views. No one ever contacted me from Gateway, except when I informed them that I was canceling my consignment.
When I went to trailer my car home, sales person, Ben, said he had a buyer for my car. I responded that I was still taking it home. At which time, the car was spewing gasoline from the fuel filter. Ben leaned his head out from the building an asked, "Is it the fuel filter?" My friend who is a owner of an auto repair shop commented how did he know it was the fuel filter? Verrrry strange and interesting!!!!!
My friend believes that Gateway purposely loosened the filter connecter.
I will never deal with this business ever again. And nor should anyone.
BUYER BEWARE BUYER BEWARE!!!!
BUYER BEWARE BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I purchased a car September 28th in Atlanta and was told that the title to the car would be sent to me. I received a packet in the mail about three weeks later without the title. After contacting the sales rep Aaron, he told me that no title was available and the registration that they included would be enough to get a title in Illinois. After going to the DMV in IL they said that they could not title the car without a title from from Georgia. When I called back to get try to get the title from the dealership they told me they don't have one and forwarded me to a person named Brooke who handles these issues. After speaking with her she hung up on me. Still no resolution, no follow up. I now have a car that is sitting in my garage that I cannot drive. BEWARE BEWARE! I will be contacting an attorney.
NEVER NEVER BUY A CAR FROM GATEWAY
I am ABSOLUTEY shocked that this misleading company still has a license to operate. My salesman told me they inspected the car I wanted to buy but he knew nothing at all about it and couldn't answer an questions about it. He just wanted a $1000 NON-REFUNDNABLE deposit. I gave him a list of questions about the car. He said he would have answers the next day. I called him twice and left 3 texts and all I got was 'I AM BUSY WITH OTHER CLIENTS" So guess he thought he had me in the bag and I would go LAST after he takes care of EVERYONE ELSE. Read their contract. 100% favors the seller and 0% for the buyer. When he finally called me back 2 days later he asked me if I wanted to buy the car. I said do you have the answers to my questions and his answer was--GET THIS--- What questions! Amazing. So I decided to check the reviews on GATEWAY. Seems EVERYONE thinks this company is a total scam and this mislead all their buyers with false claims and misinformation and when I asked the salesman to put in writing all the things he did tell me were right with the , he said his company wouldn't do that. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So I checked their contract. KNOW WHAT IS SAYS???
We "DO NOT' inspect cars. We take the owners word.
And---Anything that is said to a prospective buyer orally "CANNOT" betaken as fact, so this horrendous company can keep deposits, lie about what you are getting, not return phone calls, not repair problems they are responsible for and just can say anything they want since they have a GREAT CONTRACT_FOR THEM only. Stay far far away from them and read the on line reviews. I have NEVER seen such horrible reviews anywhere anytime on this planet. And always be sure you personally see and check out any car WITH your mechanic or you will be in for a negative financial surprise. HAVE A NICE DAY. I will- WHY? I bought elsewhere and I love what I have. I will leave out the name of the salesman I worked with as a courtesy.
False Advertising
I recently purchased a 1971 Chevelle rRestomod from Gateway Classic Cars. It was advertised at having a Demon FUEL INJECTED carb. This was a key factor in buying the car. When the car arrived, I discovered that it was not fuel-injected, but rather it had a normal 4-bbl carburetor. I contacted the salesman who agreed that it was advertised incorrectly and he asked for 3 written estimates on installing fuel injection and the would take care of it. 4 days later, they stared back pedaling and beat around the bush, that it was not their fault, because the advertised it like to seller described. They took no responsiblity for their own false advertising. The management insulted my knowledge and argued over semantics of the term "fuel injected". I understand that I could had the car inspected beforehand, but I trusted them. I was a repeat customer. This was a clear-cut case of false advertising on their part and they know it. But the fact of the matter is, they are a huge company and they know it would cost me more to sue them than it would cost to replace the carburetor. WARNING: This company is not to be trusted at all. They will not own up to their responsibility to the consumer, but rather they hide behind "what the seller told us" as they are a consignment dealer. They clearly do not inspect the cars they sell. If you purchase a vehicle from Gateway Classic Cars, do so at your own risk.

Just a Happy Car Buyer
Stay Far, Far, Away!!!
Looks like I am just one of hundreds of buyers and sellers who have had the same experience with Gateway Classic Cars. I wish that I would have read these reviews prior to wasting my time and money at Gateway. They are very nice, pleasant people who will take you for everything that they can. They misrepresent the vehicle and hide behind their "As-Is" clause. When something goes wrong, they state that they are simply an advertiser, with no responsibility or liability. When you talk to them on the phone, they represent themselves as a sales person. Which is it? Hopefully the Better Business Bureau will be asking the same question.
I purchased a 1974 Formula 455 Firebird that immediately needed almost $3,000 in transmission repairs. The mechanic that rebuilt my transmission said that there was leak stop in the transmission fluid, so this, along with the puddle of transmission fluid on the floor of the transport, the bill of lading noting the transmission condition when shipped, and the fact that the vehicle wouldn't go into park was clear evidence that the condition of the transmission was known prior to the sale.
Additionally, when I went to register it, the DMV couldn't confirm whether it was currently registered in California or Georgia and it also had over $1,200 in past DMV fees. I still haven't been able to complete the DMV registration process.
Overall I found the following issues when the car arrived:
• Transmission would not go into park and was leaking significant fluid
• Driver’s side interior door handle didn't work
• Horn did not work
• Reverse lights did not work
• Radio did not work
• Heat/AC/Vent didn't blow at all in any setting
• Speedometer did not work
• Tachometer did not work
• Passenger female seat belt receiver missing
• Windshield wipers did not work
None of these items were disclosed to me during our conversations or in the description of the vehicle.
I have never seen a business model like Gateway’s. They seem to have been able to carve out a niche that allows them to profit from the sale of other people’s products without taking responsibility whatsoever for what they are selling. They are essentially a glorified parking spot for used vehicles.
This is the first review of any purchase that I have ever written. I would absolutely never purchase another vehicle from Gateway Classic Cars.
Not sure these are true car guys
Not sure these are true car guys, they’re kind of similar to regular old car salesman that only worry about the sale. Beware, don’t buy sight unseen. They don’t disclose the problems a vehicle has. I would think that a true classic car lot would take a little more pride in not selling classics with issues, either fix them or don’t consign the . The truck I bought has oil leaks, manifold leak, electrical was screwed up (have that problem fixed now). Most car guys at least on a private sale are upfront with their buyers. Take a little pride in what you sell.
Never take there word for nothing .I…
Never take there word for nothing .I ended up with a pole of crap .Didn't even run when they got it to my house .The sales people lie to me from the start. When I called them about the pole of crap I bought .All they could say was it ran great when it was here. Lies Lies Lies that was all I got.17,500 junk.
Got screwed
Got screwed again .. I put a lot of faith in this company because it was such a big company they're located all the way across the country selling classic cars, well the car is listed as a "4 speed" when the car arrived i quickly found out it had a 3 speed th400 tranny, which I should mention was completely shot and went out 5 days after getting the car, tranny is now getting rebuilt on my dollar, that was 2 weeks ago, finally after 2 weeks of emailing i get a call from a guy named Anthony freeman who instead of talking just reads a script to you and tells me " gate way classic cars IS NOT responsible for misrepresentation of the cars on their website and " maybe the seller thought it was a 4 speed" ...not to mention the air shocks where toast and wouldn't hold air and the big chunk of paint missing on the hood they hid in the photos .. if yall have a pinto you wanna sell tell these guys its a mustang they'll sell it for ya for top dollar #baitandswitch #scamartist #hus
Gateway Classic Cars was fantastic
Gateway Classic Cars was fantastic. Worked with John Lane when buying my 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix. This purchase was made at the same time as the sale of my 2010 Corvette, and the fund transfers took a little longer than normal. John was flexible enough to work with me and we got the deal done. Great communication all around.

We recently purchased a beautiful classic T-Bird from Gateway Classic Cars, just wanted to let everyone know how delighted we were with the entire process. The staff, especially Jennifer H, were amazing and so helpful during this exciting purchase! Thanks so much, can't recommend them highly enough!

Gateway Classic Cars
Gateway Classic Cars, Crete, Illinois, has had a 1967 Hemi GTX on consignment, listed on EBAY multiple times. I have bid on the car, multiple times, each time being the high bidder (their reserve did not get met). I emailed them three times, asking what the seller is looking to get for the car, as I wanted to purchase the car. No response. I called the Chicago showroom, five days ago, spoke with Lou, told him I would like to buy the car, he said he would contact the owner, see what they want, and call me back. You guessed it, no call back. So if they are not motivated to sell their cars, how do they stay in business? My guess is they collect enough consignment fees to keep the doors open. I would never use this type of facility to sell my car or buy a car from. Terrible communication practices.
Absolutely a bunch of crooks
Absolutely a bunch of crooks. I bought a vehicle from them (My Fault) never ran well and I had issues but my problem. That was my first mistake. 2nd Mistake I sent it back there to sell. They charge you for everything from the phone call to storage. It stayed there for (3) months and they called and said it was leaking on the floor. Towed it over to a buddie of there’s and he hammered me again. In the end it sold. I was asking 14,000 and they it for 18,000. Then sent me a check for 202.00. I called and some B***** said it was storage. Never again just a bunch of lieing crooks. Remind me ofgthe ol lady that sold car to Barney in Andy Griffith and the towed it back in.

I do not recall being told the $1000 deposit was non refundable. I never signed a single document.
I had bad vibes about the vehicle. The comments made about the current owner definitely do not match maintenance records we were able to find during our investigation.
Buyer beware do not leave a deposit unless you are absolutely sure and have done ALL your research.

These people will lie & cheat you.Got a car from them it would not pass inspection & I could not put it on the road.Over 4000 dollars later it will pass.[As Is] does not mean you can lie ,steal & cheat.People there are to many other places to get classic cars& if all the good & honest people would stick together we could stop this.So please, please, do not make the same mistake I did we all work to hard for our money to let these people steal it .Please help stop this fraud. Thanks
