Geek retreat (Blackburn)

Great little shop, was tempted to purchase a few items but held back, some nice renovations going on, and looks friendly enough compared to some geek retreat shops I have visited. But sadly few weeks back I tried in store and via other contact to get into ltp for tcg but fobbed off on one excuse or another, so they must have too much business that they are not looking for another. So reason why I did not make purchase of £100 and why i have gave 3 stars. I watched glasgow store fall for same reason, not in the social group dont want to know. Got review request or would not have bothered

Geek retreat Kidderminster

Geek retreat Kidderminster

Hi, I’m trying to find out the name of the girl that served me yesterday 21/03/2026 at around 11am. She was what seemed to be very helpful and advised me to return tomorrow get here early as there will be a cue and also reassured me there was 20 poster collections available in the morning, this is important as I did ask stock levels and say I wasn’t prepared to travel and wait and cue if the stock won’t be there she assured me if I was early enough in cue I would be able to get one of the 20 poster collections for my daughter. I travelled 45minutes to your shop I arrived today 21/03/2026 @ 7:55am I was the first person there I then stood and waited until 10:10am after the store was opened up got inside. Plenty poster collections and things as I saw them! He asks what do you need I respond one of each of whatever I can please, he proceeds to give me a pin collection box and first partners box and said it that ok. I said also the poster collection please as that’s actually what I have came here for… said no he didn’t have any then I questioned the ones behind and he said they was promised and he would of told me different to the girl that told me to come early and cue up and there is stock. Personally I think the lady was telling the truth and today I was lied to by the man serving and now have a disappointed daughter and wasted cost of time and fuel 45mins each way so 1H 30m travelling plus fuel cost and time out. I would like the lady’s name that would have been serving at the time also the gentleman’s name that opened the store and served today please as I am going to make a complaint to head office and I want to make a claim for the time lost and fuel expenses too. If I don’t get a response with the names I’m more than happy to return to store to get the names.

Thanks Brad

Inclusivity is a core tenet of Disney…

Inclusivity is a core tenet of Disney Lorcana—a game designed to foster welcoming, social environments for all participants. Geek Retreat Truro has publicly adopted this ethos as part of its own motto: "Inclusive, welcoming and a social environment for everyone." Regrettably, recent events suggest a disconnect between these values and the actual practices observed by both management and members of the local Lorcana community.

A Set Championship event was held at the venue, yet no public communication was made to the broader player base. In fact, explicit verbal and online statements were made assuring players that no championship would be taking place. It has since come to light that the event was held privately for a select group of regulars. Such exclusionary conduct undermines the trust and transparency required to cultivate an inclusive community.

As Captain Hook would say—bad form, Truro.

Lorcana is—and must remain—a game that champions openness, fairness, and accessibility for all players, not just a chosen few

Collusion and against policy

'Inclusive, welcoming, and social environments for everyone', the slogan on Geek retreat's website is not embraced by this store sadly.

Originally this store advertised a closed event for Lorcana. Once it was pointed out that this is against Ravenburger's own tournament guidelines it was stated there is no closed event and it was an incorrect announcement.

This store then went on to publicly announce they would not be running a Lorcana Set Championship tournament at all.

Yet, today, this event was held for 8 select players. Players outside of these 8 were repeatedly told there was not an event (by both the store & some of these 8 people, even as recently as yesterday).

Sadly, this sort of collusion fosters a distrustful, negative environment and community that I cannot recommend to others.

The owners were exceptionally kind

The owners were exceptionally kind. The man repaired my Fitbit and refused to take any money. They invited me come on Wednesdays when they have tea for people who may be lonely in the community.
My Fitbit is perfect which has saved me buying a new one. I am so grateful.

Sad place

Encountered a very spiteful manageress/ owner?? Who was extremely nasty because i made an enquiry. Milk shake was ok, only one toilet, atmosphere completely flat. Dad couldn’t join us as no wheelchair access so he sat in car watching us through the window (was in Truro for mates birthday). Children don’t seem welcome. Wouldn’t recommend or go back.

Geek Retreat Addlestone

One of the manager is nice. One member of staff always seems bored. The shop does not care about their customers sadly. I have been going there for a while to play TGC games. Here are some issues:
- some staff members are not friendly and do not seem to enjoy working there.
- prices: the shop sells booster packs, starter decks etc way more than online retailers or some other LGS. Lorcana: selling start deck at £24 when it is £17 max everywhere else. No little discount on booster packs for regular customers for example. I understand about supporting LGS but this Geek Retreat is still asking more than other LGS.
- food: fries are inedible.
- tournament: not following the rules. I went to the store for SWU set 1 store showdown. I don't know what they used to pair us as none of the players had access to it. They didn't ask for deck lists (players could have change cards between rounds or even change their decks). Judge didn't even do deck checks and barely walked around.
- special events. One Thursday, they promoted a sealed Lorcana event with the first three sets. I went there to be told it wouldn't happen as not enough players and people there not interested. Do a registration system in advance.
- the worst happened tonight. I try to come regularly on Mondays to play SWU. I have a long journey (more than one hour by bus) and I have physical disabilities. One of the player asked if we could get a booster box to run a draft. It was supposed to be for 4 of us until another player got involved and changed it to 8 players. Last week, we talked with one of the managers to see if we could get a box, talked about timings etc. Conversation about the draft carried on on Discord. However, not all the players were on it. Someone asked if we should start early, no reply. I offered to help as I was the only one who's done draft before, no reply. I did my long journey, entered the shop and saw two friends there (including the person who suggested the draft) to be told by a member of staff that we couldn't enter the draft as it has already started. There were no 8 players as planned, there were only 6 people at the table. We were not told about the change of time. Member of staff said it was posted on Discord. They posted on Discord at 16h44! They had a week to tell us about the time and other ways for communication. They didn't wait for the players who were part of the 8 players who agreed to play and above all started without the person who suggested to do a draft.
They do not care about their customers, only about the people paying. They showed no respect to us: they know I travel from far, they didn't wait for the player who had the idea of the draft, they didn't wait for the 8 original players.

Taking the Game out of LGS...

I never feel that GR stores are FLGS's. Knowledge is sparse and its over commericalised. Independant FLG's are far superiour, in terms of knowledge, product, events and most of all understanding. I've found in several stores that the Staff havent a clue about the hobbies they are supposed to promote. Its like going to a garage to speak to one of the mechanics who has never seen an engine in their life... pointless!

Welcoming place for table top games

When myself and my MTG obsessed sons first visited the Bristol Geek Retreat we were immediately made to feel welcome by the staff and those visiting to play games. We don’t live in Bristol so can’t visit often but make sure we visit whenever we can. Wednesdays are MTG days and we went during one half term to join in. A very friendly mix of people showed up and we had a wonderful time slinging spells at each other. It was difficult to get the kids to leave at the end of the day! We will be back soon!

A Gamer's Haven - Geek Retreat Warrington

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Geek Retreat in Warrington, and it's safe to say it's a gamer's paradise! The diverse offerings, including a gaming cafe, game shop, and a venue for playing Magic The Gathering, Pokémon, and Dungeons & Dragons, make it a go-to spot for any gaming enthusiast.

The staff at Geek Retreat are not only knowledgeable but incredibly friendly. They go above and beyond to help you learn and improve your chosen game, creating a welcoming atmosphere for players of all levels. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, you'll find the support you need.

The menu at Geek Retreat is reasonably priced, and the portions are not only decent but also incredibly tasty. It's a pleasant surprise to enjoy a good meal while indulging in your favorite games. The cafe becomes a hub for like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of community where you can meet new people, chat about games, and forge connections.
