Great experience due to a good Host
I was nervous about booking on this website due to the bad reviews on here but actually we had no issues. I assume the site leaves all the work to the host and so whether you have a good experience or not will be dependent on the quality of your host. Our particular host was very responsive and the property was way better and bigger than it looked in the listing so we were very happy. I suggest you go by the individual property reviews primarily

Reserved gite unavailable
We reserved a gite in Penne D’Agenais months before arriving only to be told when we arrived after a long journey the gite was unavailable due to recent storm damage. We were given alternative accommodation that was not suitable. After a couple of days we realised the original gite was occupied by family members. Very disappointed by no response from gites de France on this and a review that was also ignored. A company of this size should be accountable for the accommodation they advertise. Very unprofessional.

Totally disappointing - Avoid
We reserved a Gites through Gites de France, Morbihan for four nights, based on details posted on the website. However on arrival it was obvious that there was no WI-FI although advertised, the TV did not work and the remote was broken. The handle on the back door was loose and about to fall off. The exterior which was tiled, was extremely dirty and covered in moss rendering it extremely dangerous and slippery and the garden unkempt. The situation was discussed with Madame LE HENANFF of, De Kerneur, Pluvigner but she appeared to deem the problems trivial. She did attempt to rectify the WI-FI with Orange, who apparently advised her it was not possible, even though she was advertising it on Gites de France Website. We had no alternative but to leave after two nights. We have for many years booked through Gites de France, without problem. However this is the second Gites this year that has been substandard and presented situations where they do not comply with descriptions advertised. Will avoid this type of booking in the future, as after sometimes a long journey, you can never be sure that the properties will be in accordance with that advertised and/or up to standard. Totally disappointing.
A pathetic and unacceptable response from Gites de France, which refers only to the situation of no WIFI.
Mde Le Henanff may be ensuring that this does not happen in the future, but that did not help our situation.
No WIFI and no mobile network connection.
All other points in my complaint have been ignored - i.e. broken TV; Broken handset; Broken door handle; neglected exterior slippery tiles - definitely an accident waiting to happen.
A small refund was given, but all taxes; cleaning charges, and two nights accommodation were retained, even though we could not use the gites as advertised.
Gites de France appear to support the gites owners and in no way wish to deal with problems that arise on behalf of the person renting the properties.
Unprofessional - beware and be warned!

gites-de-France Bretagne, bad experience
Very bad experience with gites-de-France Bretagne, In a discussion with the owner, we had to pay another 200€ for water and electricity!!!!! Normally It was included in the price. It was claimed on our Visa, so there was nothing we could do about it. No one ever responded on our e-mails. On the phone, they said they would arrange it, but no action was taken. Very disappointing.

Be warned Gite de France offer dreadful service
I wish to make a complaint about the quality of the gite, the hygiene and the standard of accommodation at 4 la
Germondiere , Secondigny , which caused me to make a decision to leave the property and return home to the UK.
I am extremely disappointed and have lost the opportunity of a 3 week relaxing holiday.
I have used Gite de France on several previous occasions (as have my friends) , I have been pleased with the gite
accommodation and believed that Gite de France’s good reputation this property would be to the standard that I had
previously enjoyed.
I arrived at the property late on 25 July as the ferry across the Channel was delayed due to industrial dispute. I met with
Madame Annie Cranley at the property and she showed me around, in the kitchen the hob was dirty and the top lefthand
corner was smashed and in pieces, the oven was in a disgusting state with thick grease and grime and had a
horrendous smell, (please see attached pictures )
Madame Cranley commented on the fact and suggested that she should have replaced the oven and hob as it they were
so old.
There was an unusual smell in the kitchen which we both noted and Madame Cranley suggested that her last tenants
had cooked unusual food causing the smell.
Historically, when arriving at a property there would be some basic provisions salt , pepper , bread , milk , tea , coffee
the basic necessities, none of these were available only some water, apple juice , a jar of jam and honey both made by
Mme Cranley.
We then looked around the upstairs of the property and already Madame Cranley could tell my disappointment in the
beds and living accommodation.
The next day (Wednesday 26th ) Madame Cranley purchased some oven cleaner but refused to clean the oven herself
and gave me the cleaner to clean the oven and hob, it took me all evening and it had to be cleaned three times in order
for the oven to be usable.
As mentioned there was a constant bad smell in the kitchen area and a continual number of bluebottle flies which
would reflect that there was some meat or deteriorating matter that was allowing the bluebottles to continually hatch ,
this is a hygiene consideration and unacceptable.
I tried to make the holiday work , but the property is just not up to an acceptable standard the beds are uncomfortable
with a lack of support from the mattresses and old pillows and linen, madame Cranley has sent SMS messages with me
suggesting that she will now change the mattresses.
I have made this complaint to Gite de France and have not had a response they acknowledge the complaint but ignore offering any resolution
21.09.2023 at long last after numerous calls and an email we have a response ! it is .....they say they have made a response ...which they have not!! they don't want to speak or make any respondence they delay and ignore ....customer service is non existent and no offer of any compensation ..they are hoping by ignoring the situation it will go away appalling service and after service ... learning a lesson don't pay up front for something that may be completely opposite to the advertised property seems there is only one route to engage in the legal route of pursuing for a compensation . Be warned !!!

Booked a Gite in St Laurent sur Gorre through Gites de France
Booked a Gite through Gites de France. Had problems with the owners from start to finish. The owners took our €200 deposit but refused to give it back when we left. We were told in the contract that the cleaning was our responsibility. The owners told us too. We cleaned our 1 bedroom which was the only bedroom we used although it was a 6 person Gite! We cleaned the toilet shower room and kitchen. Everywhere was spotless, even the husband said so. The wife refused to give our full deposit back. Gites de France contacted the couple with our complaints. The couple offered us €30 instead of the €60 and told us to give the husband our bank details. Not likely! Will never use this company again

La Desirade, Saint Laurent D’arce.
We have just spent a fabulous 2 weeks with our friends at Gite La Disarade in Saint Laurent D’arce. The owners Catherine and Marc gave us all such a warm welcome when we arrived and both so friendly and helpful. The gite and grounds are spotlessly clean. The facilities are great, the pool is beautiful and clean. We loved feeding and visiting the little ponies on site. There is a large pond where you are able to fish. The Gironde area has plenty to offer in way of attractions and places to visit. I would say a car is essential. We would highly recommend a stay at this charming gite.

Gîte Porte de Baudet (63G100942) in Mirefleurs
We stayed for 2 weeks in Gîte Porte de Baudet (63G100942) in Mirefleurs. The Gîte was perfect for us. It was clean and the Auvergne is very beautiful.
Didier and Anne-Marie are very hospitable and helpful.
When we arrived we had problems with the WiFi. They did their utmost to solve the problem.
Great place to stay! Also checkout Gîte Le Pigeonnier - 63G100941.

Gite Tauzinat ref 33G4333
We spent a lovely week at Tauzinat in August after being evacuated there from our original booking close to the Gironde forest fires. Gite de France staff were really helpful with the transfer and our host at Tauzinat was very welcoming. The house, which is set among vineyards close to St Emillion, was exceptionally clean, very comfortable and a pleasure to return to after a day out in the area. The terrace at the rear of the house was a perfect place to dine or enjoy a drink and felt very private despite being next door to the owners house. We have no hesitation in recommending that others spend time at this very restful house and in this beautiful area.

Avoid.
I had the misfortune to make a booking through Gites de France en Bretagne. Without doubt the worst, most contemptuous customer service that I have ever encountered. Look somewhere else for bookings.

Gite 13G28, Bouches du Rhone
We submitted a review to the area GdF office on 30/11/21, which was unfavourable concerning a stay from 13/11 to 19/11. Subsequent, but positive reviews have been published.
The property and reception were the worst we have encountered over many years in France. It was infested with flies and had mice in the kitchen (we live in a rural area and are very familiar with wildlife incursions - these were on a different scale). The property's maintenance was the root of the problem - doors did not fit, the shower did not work and the roof had holes.
We were asked to make prior contact to arrange our arrival. Our messages (in clear French) were ignored, so we contacted the GdF office. Their message to the owner was also ignored, and they failed to make any further contact with us until reminded.
The gite would have been overpriced by at least 30% had it been in good condition.
It is most unfortunate that GdF comes across as dishonest in its selection of reviews that it will publish. At a minimum, they could have contacted us for clarifications. It fails its clients badly by not ensuring that reasonable standards of hygiene and maintenance are observed.
We also booked accommodation through…
We also booked accommodation through this company and had to cancel due to covid. I asked if I could change to a later date and just got no, not even a sorry that's not possible. Paid 1000 euro and notified them 8 weeks before the holiday. Visited the website a few days later and the accomadation had already been rebooked by someone else. So no loss to the proprietor just a nice gain.

Will not give refunds despite Covid restrictions
Will not give refunds despite Covid restrictions. Gite de France retained 25% of our booking and despite many emails will not refund.
Our Ferry operator cancelled sailings and refunded us in full.
Gite de France still owe us 25% of our holiday fees paid.
Will not give refunds
Following the understandable cancellation of bookings in April 2020 I was given a credit note; no offer of a refund. It is now a year later and I still cannot travel due to Covid 19. I would have expected the option of a refund at this point but Gites de France (Morbihan) are quite terse with their responses and absolutely will not move on the refund. Time to read up on my consumer rights I think...
We booked a gite in the Pyrenees
We booked a gite in the Pyrenees. They didnt tell us you had to be a mountain goat to get down the steps to the gite, and being seniors and with reduced mobility we were worried about falling etc. Knees giving up after the first evening. We arrived on Monday and left Wednesday morning as we couldnt put up with it. little things in the gite not right, cold in the evening, really steep stairs, no dvd as promised on arrival so we bought our own which wouldnt work with their tv. . Asked for our money back. 600 euros a bit steep for 2 nights accommodation. needless to say they refused.

I booked a Gite near Giverny with Gites…
I booked a Gite near Giverny with Gites France - the accommodation was very basic.
The downstairs toilet was taped up with black tape so i assumed was out of order. The lounge area chairs were dirty and uncomfortable.
the downstairs bathroom had no ventilation and so there was a very pungent damp smell in the bathroom and bedroom that it was off. The shower curtain in this bathroom was also stained brown at the bottom( it originally was turquoise)The beds in the gite were z beds so not very comfortable and the double bed was supported on 2 planks of wood. The mattress moved if you turned or moved when lying on it.The sheets in my room were marked and i actually bought new sheets to use as the ones provided were not clean. The pillows were non existent and i also bought these for my stay as what was provided was no use. Some plaster fell off the windows upstairs while i was there. The owner turned up at the house several times and wanted to come in. I arrived home one occasion to find a window box with geraniums in it. The next day there were 3 more, When i opened the windows there was a pungent smell of manure and it appeared that it was coming from the window boxes that had been brought up to the house. I moved them away from the window as they appeared to be attracting flies. The gite was for 8 people but there were not enough comfortable chairs for 8 nor were there enough cups for 8 people( except for very small espresso cups) so i had to buy these as well.
I had booked this accommodation through Gites De France, I had no issue with Gites De France however the accommodation was very poor and i want others to know about it.
I do have photos of these complaints.
The only positive i can say about the Gite is the lounge/ kitchen area was of an ok standard and it had a good size garden. The location was excellent only a few miles from Giverny etc.
