Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported significant issues with their orders, including incorrect items, missing pages in books, and products arriving damaged due to poor packaging. Delivery services were frequently criticized for being slow, unreliable, and often resulting in items not arriving or being sent to the wrong address. Furthermore, people were dissatisfied with the pricing, noting that some "used" books were more expensive than new ones, and found the company's response time to complaints to be non-existent or automated and unhelpful. Some customers also mentioned concerns about the company's business practices, particularly regarding how they list and ship books.

Negative rating deserved.

This would be a negative rating if that was possible. First, I order a lit of books thru Abebooks. Beware of this AB seller. I wish I had known that Abe's seller ratings have absolutely nothing to do with seller competence. I wish I had known to look at Trust Pilot which I have ended up doing after a bad experience and now seeing I am not the only one.

I wrote to Good Book Prices as follows..
The book was just delivered. It's a damn shame that a brand new book was packaged for shipping so poorly without any padding. Along the shipping journey the book was tossed hard, landed on a corner of the book and damaged both the front cover and back cover ...the lower right corner. It didn't arrive to me in the "perfect condition" stated. It may have been perfect when you shipped it. I know you don't have control over how the package was handled by the shipping handlers and I don't think it's right that you packaged the book without any padding. I order lots of books and this is the first I've received one in a simple plastic sleeve. Trying to argue with USPS will be pointless. I'm just really disappointed. Won't order from you again based on your poor packaging choices.

Their response?

Asked to confirm my address since the book was not delivered.

Smh. Disgusting. And I see I am not the only one who had problems with their shabby packaging practices.

Avoid at all costs

Ordered two books 11/12/2024 from a UK site, with a UK mailing address, a UK website and with UK in their name. First book arrived 09/01/25 from the US. Second book missing.
Website does not work using FireFox on PC, says I have to disable the VPN I'm not using or contact an email. Email bounces back undeliverable.
No contact email address, only online forms.

Avoid, dreadful experience.

[edit: 11/02/25. Second book (supposedly re-sent but no tracking info given) is still missing. Company "are investigating" but haven't given any further response in 2 weeks. Lodged dispute with credit card.]

Ordered via Abe

Ordered via Abe - as others have done. Abe tell me that it was passed to delivery service two days after my payment was made. But expected delivery date is in keeping with what you'd expect of donkeys in 1825, not hi-tec systems in 2025!
Who's to blame?
Abe and "greatbookprices" are equally responsible - they are the pivots in a RUBBISH quality of service.

Great Book Disasters

The book didn’t arrive, they didn’t reply to my first email. When Abe intervened Gt Book Prices(not) said the book had arrived according to Yodel-no evidence-but if it hadn’t try the Post Office! That was it, they haven’t replied to further emails or engaged in any way.
They’re quite close to being a scam company IMO.

Ordered via Abe Books

Ordered via Abe Books. Ordered on the 3rd January, was notified on the 14th that the order was cancelled due to 'bookseller accepted order in error'.

These were a gift and very hard to source so this was disappointing, noting it took over a week for them to communicate this.

Ridiculous Packaging and Poor Customer Service

My item came shipped in a flimsy plastic bag, so of course the new book was damaged. The bottom of the spine was smashed and pages were torn. What company thinks this is an acceptable way to package and ship a book? Customer service wasn't any better. The first email response to my message that my book was damaged and I wanted a replacement was bot-generated and stated that the book had been delivered. Yeah, it's been delivered in ridiculous packaging and therefore damaged. I paid for a NEW book, and I don't want a damaged book. They refused to replace the book, and only offered a 15% discount. I'm afraid to actually return it after reading these reviews of people who have been ghosted after returning items for refunds. My only regret is that by not returning it, their AbeBooks seller rating won't go down. How can AbeBooks justify working with a crappy vendor like this and show it as having a 4-star rating. I have had no luck either in reporting this to AbeBooks. Their help buttons only take you round and round on their FAQs. How do you actually contact AbeBooks to complain about this vendor?

Avoid this untrustworthy company

Avoid this untrustworthy company. Total disregard for customer. Take your money and don’t deliver. Never thought I’d be caught out by a scammer. Book ordered in the 24th October still not arrived on 12th December. Have asked for a refund numerous times only to be fobbed off and thanked for my patience! I would advise not to buy from them.

Wrong book sent, slow response

Ordered book via AbeBooks on 10/11/24 for sister's birthday on 25/11/24. Wrong book arrived on 14/11/24. Notified AbeBooks right away. Today, 19/11/24, GreatBookprices sent a message saying I must return the book at my expense and wait 14 days for refund or replacement.

Not impressed.

Accidentally put the wrong address delivered to another place

Accidentally put the wrong address. Contacted them 3 times trying to resolve it and no one responds.
Then I get a tracking email saying it's been delivered, but the delivery location is to somewhere in another state.
Abebooks is also terrible customer service too, no one I can call or email directly, just a forum.

No problems

I ordered from this company via Abebooks, then read these reviews and feared the worst. But the book was delivered, properly packaged and by a reputable delivery company. A star deducted because it took 9 days, but Abe gave a time frame of 5 to 14 days, so it was acceptable.

I think this company is possibly fake

I think this company may not exist - or they are some kind of dropshipping inbetween broker - i ordered a physics book through ABE Books - but was shipped from this company 'GreatBookPricesUK
Castle Donington, United Kingdom' that cost £85 - I was sent a random book worth £6 - this company took the money and I cannot get any response from them..Beware.

I ordered two course books which were…

I ordered two course books which were due to be delivered by 24 September, - but I still haven’t received them (it’s now October 10th) therefore asked for a refund, but they said as they had given me a tracking number, they won’t do this. When searching via the tracking number I always get the same reply ‘no information available’. The cost was over £36, so not insignificant; and the course I am on started two weeks ago, so I shall have to buy again from elsewhere. I just wish I’d seen the other reviews before: Abe Books rates them with 5* which is a complete fallacy. I won’t use Abe Books ever again.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. Returned a book weeks ago and no acknowledgement that they received it for a refund. Don't bother ordering from here, it's cheap but you pay the price in other ways.

Awful awful company

Awful awful company.
Stay away.
So far, made the mistake of ordering from them. Tbf with so many bad reviews you'd think Abebooks who are normally quite good, would cut ties an refuse to work with them.
I sent a message thinking over two weeks delivery is a long time from Castle Donnington surely it doesn't take that long.
So they said will send using Hermes or Whistl, argh so I put in the number and lo an behold it doesn't come up on either because of course it doesn't.

Next day I get a scam text, I go a little further claims to be Evri demanding my address because theyve lost the number. Yeah right, so I went to official Evri not the same so Im like, nope, definitely a scam. I put their number up on Who called me for others.

I being very suspicious wrote back to Abebooks who passed it on to GPBuk because I wanted a refund.
Only can't get one if its before the delivery time which is OBVIOUSLY to get you to forget or some such.
Anyway that was until I got a grey card demanding £18.73 off me. I have recently discovered that thanks to someone else here, you know who you are, who did the digging to find out they source outside of the Uk. Oh great thanks, at least I can expect a charge on something outside of my country so what is this? Would of been nice to know this upfront so I could be prepared. Seriously I dont know what they are up to but it doesn't seem legit to me.
For all I know Im going out to pay for a box of rocks. Im not paying nearly twenty for that. Just stay away. They, by the looks of it, only send out the same tired message to everyone and refuse to do business fairly.
Oh and yeah obviously the grey card is royal mail hence the charge so why lie re Evri an Whistl?
Again. Youve been warned.
