Greenlight is horrible!

Greenlight is horrible!! Their requirements to provide highly sensitive personal and financial documents to open an account is ridiculous!! And being blasted with weekly surveys and marketing emails is obnoxious. Our daughter is a very mature and responsible young lady so I don’t need to track her spending habits. I just want a simple way to help her earn and save money and to occasionally add money to her wallet. I don’t need investing tools. Our daughter is 15 and works a part time job. She doesn’t have any money to invest!! Had I known about Apple Pay and Apple Cash I would have gladly used these tools since we both have iPhones. And Apple Cash doesn’t require you to submit highly confidential personal and financial documents to use their app.

Love it-Works great-suggestions

We love this. Works great. Would be very helpful if the notes I put in when I transfer showed in the transaction. Would also be great to be able to attach chores to dollars that transfer upon approval.

App didn't work when I needed to send…

App didn't work when I needed to send money within the hour to my daughter in a different city. I alerted customer service and they said they would call me back with an update and they never did.

Charged for over a year with my account being frozen

They were charging me multiple times per month for over a year AFTER I was notified my account was frozen and would be deactivated if I didn't resolve it within 30 days. I intentionally didn't unfreeze it because I didn't care to continue the service. Then I was told the most refund they could give me was 3 months worth --- even though they shouldn't have been charging me in the first place. It's been 35 min and I'm still sitting on hold. The worst customer service experience ever. I would not recommend them to a single freaking person!! So frustrating.

**UPDATE*** They issued a refund for the 14 months they "mistakenly" charged me. Guess it was worth the 45 minutes on the phone.

Intuitive, affordable and effective

Intuitive and affordable tool to teach kids basic money management. We use this to distribute allowance, offer payment for additional chores and make other one-time distributions. The kids monitor their own transactions and balances and transfer funds to each other as payment for items or services. We have one child in particular who has shown considerable growth in understanding the value of saving since using this service.

I cannot say enough bad things about…

I cannot say enough bad things about green light. We thought it was the perfect solution for our 5 kids to learn how to manage money. But within the first 24 hours i should have know it was not. When the kids first used their cards after the initial set up, it froze all their cards for fraudulent activity because I had funded too many cards in one day. Then we got that released, which took well over a week. Then t said I couldn’t fund all of the cards with a bank account that for faster transfer of money we need to use debit card so I uploaded all the debit cards. Then they said we couldn’t use the debit cards for funding because the kids names were on the account, even though I am the parent and i am on the account but because my kids name was on the bank account that it couldn’t be used for funding. The bottom line is I’m trying to use my money to put on this card and they would not allow that to happen and now that I have canceled the service I asked for all the money to be put back into my bank account. They’ve already removed all the funds from greenlight with no proof of how much was taken out of each of their accounts, so I have no way of knowing how much was in each account and what amount to expect back into my bank account. There’s no history there at all on green light ap. They have removed at all, so definitely not customer friendly do not use if you have more than one kid.

Scammers/fraudsters

They only tell you want you want to hear. I recently transferred funds to my child’s account. The next day I reversed it and put it back to my account I used to fund it with. Greenlight sent it back as a debit then in the same day credit my account. The money was not in Greenlight nor in my funding account. Poof disappeared. No sign in either account. Even after providing proof they washed their hands and only offered an apology. Don’t use Greenlight, there’s no branch to go to, they don’t speak clear English and they are not in the USA. You will regret it, if you use it. Heed the warning.

Good, but way too much upselling

Good tool, easy for kids and parents.
But there is way too much up selling from green light. The app and the emails are constantly inundating you with ads to upgrade

It's very easy to help my granddaughter learn budgeting, savings and chores for an allowance. Another great thing is I can see what was purchased.
