Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the app unusable due to an overwhelming number of intrusive ads, often popping up mid-message or during basic functions. Customers also reported the app was filled with non-genuine profiles and automated accounts, making it difficult to connect with genuine users. The user experience was further hampered by glitches, frequent crashes, and issues with features like GPS and profile refreshing. Reviewers consistently criticized the pricing structure, finding the subscriptions expensive and the value for money poor, especially as features were removed or moved to higher-priced tiers. Some people also experienced random account bans without clear reasons, and found the customer support unresponsive to their inquiries.

Every Update Makes It Worse!

The situation keeps getting worse-even for paying users-with every update, which of course is mandatory to keep using the app.

Features we already had were taken away, and now even the unrestricted age filter that used to be part of Extra is locked behind Unlimited-while the Extra price stays the same.

Every update gives us less for the same money. Paying for Extra now is basically just paying to remove ads.

Instead of rewarding loyal subscribers, you punish them and keep stripping features they already paid for.

Whoever is in charge of your marketing strategy should seriously rethink what they're doing-because this is exactly how you drive paying users away.

This site is the biggest waste of time…

This site is the biggest waste of time & money. Every week I take a look to see what new charges they've made up. I'm amazed anybody that isn't rich can afford it. I've used this site on & off for years & paid for a while. All or most of the profiles are fake or just links to *nly Fans or other sites. Now they have ads & want you to pay £80 a year so half your screen time isn't filled by ads for other "dating" sites. I sincerely hope they realise how many customers they are going to lose (including me) before they go bust. Shame what started as a great site has just sunk into Succubus 🤬🤮😭

Grindr has become an absolute disaster…

Grindr has become an absolute disaster of an app — a once-useful platform now completely overrun with corporate greed, intrusive advertising, and a stunning lack of user protection. The ads are relentless: full-screen, audio-blaring, and often unskippable for several seconds, showing up after nearly every tap. It’s clear the app is more concerned with squeezing every cent out of its user base than providing a functional space to meet people.

The free version is nearly unusable, and the features offered under the overpriced “XTRA” plan are hardly worth the subscription fee. You’d expect premium pricing to come with real upgrades — but instead, it’s just slightly fewer ads and a couple of weak filters that should’ve been free to begin with.

Even more alarming is the flood of fake profiles, bots, and scammers. Scams range from fake nude bait-and-switch traps to phishing links, and they’re everywhere — often outnumbering genuine users. Meanwhile, Grindr seems more concerned with pushing users to disclose their gender identity and pronouns than taking action against the people actively trying to defraud or catfish its community. Maybe focus on cleaning out the bots and scam accounts before obsessing over profile labels. Priorities, anyone?

Grindr’s management has clearly lost sight of what made the app useful in the first place. At this point, it’s just an ad-infested, poorly moderated mess that expects users to pay a premium for the privilege of avoiding headaches. Unless serious improvements are made — including better fraud prevention, real moderation, and fairer pricing — this app isn’t just disappointing; it’s an outright insult to loyal users.

the app is unuseable

the app is unuseable, being filled with bots, scam accounts, Obvious onlyfans Ad-accounts, and very very intrusive Ads, ads pop up in the middle of writing a message, which opens the storefront to a ripoff game. also all the porn game ads...
and ad windows with 3 layers! You cant go 2 minutes without a new ad interrupting you.

The app is only attractive cause it has so many users, so please stop using grindr and download scruff or something.

STAY AWAY FROM GRINDR.

I’ve been on and off Grindr for several years. It is the worst and I mean the worst app out there. They are owned by a Chinese company and through their barrage of ads they try and force you to become a paying member. Most of the profiles that are supposed to be close to me distance wise are sometimes over 200 miles away. There are so many scammers and bots it’s unreal and you can report them but Grindr does nothing. I read somewhere that the Chinese use the app to gain your personal information and financial information to use. I haven’t paid in years and after so long the stupid f**** ban me. They will also ban you if you bring up any political views that they don’t agree with. IE: if you’re a conservative. I use Adam4Adam and Scruff. Also, there’s almost no one that’s on Grindr that’s been there for any length of time. I go on fully expecting to be banned at some point because I won’t pay. If you want fake profiles, scammers that want your cell and email, bots, and more ads (and I mean more ads) then you’ve ever seen in your life then by all means download Grindr. I don’t know if it’s related but years ago when I did pay and gave the Chinese my cc number on the app, not long after that I started getting charges on my cc that weren’t mine. I had to cancel my card several times. Since I’ve stopped paying for Grindr I’ve never ever had that problem since. Stay away from this app. I’m not on there now but wanted to write this review. There’s something wrong and Grindr needs to go the way of MySpace.

Worst Gay Website... EVER

Honestly this has to be the worst gay dating app out there. Constant bombardment of ads! You log on... ad! You view a profile... ad! You try to send a message and as you're typing an ad pops up and you have to start all over again!
Nearly everything is behind a pay wall!
Pay for this, that and the other!
Then there is the constant annoyance of being contacted by STRAIGHT women or fake accounts! Contact Grindr and they either don't reply or they block your account for complaining about the amount of Hetro women! They don't give a toss! All they want is your money! This isn't a gay dating website! It's a joke!

Worst service ever

Almost every single tap in the app pops up an advertisement. You get multiple spam links every day. If you are somehow still able to use this app you will get banned randomly without a single reason and their don't care to respond to your inquiries or appeals about the issue. Neither just give at least an explanation. Most likely they are just banning unpaid accounts.

Awful

All it is is ads and blocked profiles unless you PAY THEM. You would think with all the 1 star reviews they would get the hint but obviously they are too stupid to care.

Age verification

If the constant ads, bugs and paywalls weren’t bad enough, now we have age verification in UK which after who knows how many attempts banned me for my selfie video not being clear enough. Did manage to appeal but doubt they’ll reply. Do yourself a favour guys , ditch the app, you won’t regret it, I know I don’t.

You know that you have hit rock bottom…

You know that you have hit rock bottom when for no apparent reason you find yourself blocked and there's a Banned Notice staring at you.
The information provided within that Banned Message does say that one can appeal the Ban... So I did appeal.. I explained that I had no idea why I would be banned and asked for an explanation.
3 days later the explanation came : They couldn't tell me why I was banned :"Hi,

Thank you for reaching out. We apologize for the delay in our response and appreciate your understanding during this period. Your continued patience is greatly valued.

We know that it is upsetting to be banned and we understand why you would want more information on this. However, for privacy and safety reasons, we cannot provide any more specifics about why your account was closed.
As outlined in our Terms, “Grindr may suspend or terminate any User Account...if Grindr believes that Your profile content or Your conduct within the Grindr Services violates Our Terms of Service.” Please refer to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service for additional information about our rules and policies."
To be honest .. It's a gutter pick up site which I occasionally clicked into out of curiosity more than out of need and considering that my profile was non descriptive / pretty bland and that It wasn't my practice to initiate contact.. I cant imagine what crime against my own community I would have committed. And I will never know because out of "safety and privacy for their members".. Of which I was one.. they ain't tellin' me.
However in the words of Gloria Gaynor " I WILL SURVIVE"

is hard to find words 4 How Bad

For me it's hard to find words to describe how much I think it sucks. You get emails which are mostly advertisements that suck. Anything that might be interesting you have to pay for. Maybe people that pay monthly fees get something but.... Compared to OK Cupid which I used before, it is light years more exploitive and useless

It’s terrible now and will never be ok again

It’s terrible now, the amount of paywalls one has to go through in order to just get to a message or the fact that the free version has upgraded many times to LIMIT EVEN MORE FEATURES MONTH AFTER MONTH to force you to pay 20€ even Netflix is cheaper like no this app was for connecting people and it’s a cash cow now for investors and a Chinese firm. Either someone make a new app or please ban Grindr from the App Store because at this point it’s just a scam….

Just a horrible app now

Just a horrible app now. Adverts are near constant to the point the app is pretty unusable. Also they've removed the ability to block someone unless you've interacted with them. I see people on there that I know to be toxic and problematic and even dangerous and I'm unable to block them unless I speak to them. I cannot use this app any longer.
