Dont get to excited !

The guy that came to our house didn't really give us any clue about the things we had, he seemed rushed & not really interested so much so he took our stuff & didn't leave us a receipt, I've had to chase them. One email said I had to pick the unsold items up 5 days after the sale but they didn't send the email until a week after ! We didn't feel he pushed items in the sale , we've watched others that are more enthusiastic.

All went well

All went well. I hoped that the paintings I left for the auction would be marked as being painted by artists who were Royal Academicians. They might have created more interest.

Arrived damaged, misdescribed, no fair resolution

I purchased a ring listed as aquamarine. It arrived damaged and does not match the description, quality or value stated in the listing.

When I raised my complaint, the response was dismissive. They incorrectly claimed the damage happened after delivery and used this to avoid addressing my main concern — that the item was misrepresented. Their testing claims feel one-sided and no evidence, and they refused any refund or solution entirely.

I am not satisfied with this outcome and am now reporting the matter to Trading Standards. This company shows no accountability or willingness to put things right. I strongly advise others to avoid buying here.

Following receipt of your complaint, the ring was returned to our jewellery department and subjected to further gemmological testing, including a polariscope, dichroscope, Chelsea colour filter and refractometer. These tests confirmed the stone to be beryl, variety aquamarine, consistent with our original catalogue description.

We also reviewed the catalogue photographs, condition report and correspondence relating to the lot before reaching our decision.

As this matter remains the subject of an ongoing dispute, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further in a public forum. We will continue to cooperate with any recognised dispute resolution process should one be initiated.

Setting a fair estimate

The man who valued the item, set a fair estimate. We were kept informed when the sale was going to be. We could see an online catalogue, and were able to view the auction on line.
Our item exceeded its estimate so we were very pleased. And we have been given a payment date.
Good service all round.

Great service

Had a few things to get rid of, the valuer went through everything thoroughly and gave me individual valuations and told me when the auction was taking place. I got an email shortly after with the totals they went for. The whole process from start to finish was swift and stress free

Thanks to Justin, Danni and Lisa at the Penshurst office for their kind advice, professional valuations and friendly approachability before, during and after the auction. I felt in good hands in a totally new experience for me.
The sale was a big success and I achieved more than I hoped.
All made possible by the team in Penshurst and the auctioneering skills and enthusiasm of Charles himself.
I will definitely recommend you

Sorting the problem

Kate Beardsmore was really helpful and important to me very honest. She said it was how it is. I appreciated that . As I was led down the path when buying my painting elsewhere before I went to Hansons. I went to Etwall, Derbyshire.
