Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 321 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many consumers find the printed books very practical, appreciating the clear step-by-step instructions, helpful diagrams, and reliable guidance for maintaining their vehicles. People often mention that traditional manuals serve as a great tool for home mechanics looking to complete successful repairs. However, some customers also noted that digital versions and online guides can be very difficult to navigate and frequently lack specific details for individual car models. A few other people also felt that the online platforms offer generic instructions, poor-quality black and white photos, and little useful information.

Utterly useless …

Bought an online manual for my 2022 Vivaro. Wanted to see wiring for the ABS system. The colour codes online were incorrect and diagrams were blank. Utterly useless. Emailed support, over a week later got a standard reply which didn’t actually address any of the issues I raised. Refund requested.

Waste of my money

Totally disgusted with the manual for my B class. I have grown up on Haynes repair manuals in the family, and am used to the details and pictures the old manuals were famous for. THis manual was about as poor as it could be. Basic service schedule parts are not even listed. Tech drawings of the engine show mounts only, nothhing to do with the engine. Video of mass sensor shows a completely different car. It lacks depth, and even may basics are missing. Waste of money

Zero customer service

I purchased a Haynes online workshop manuals for my car. First job I needed it for and isn't covered, intact most engine related guidance is not covered. I understand not every job on every car can be covered. I have since reached out to Haynes via their web mail several times and only ever got a automated reply.
Terrible custer service in fact zero customer service.
I expect a " were receiving a larger than usual emails " reply on here but wont be holding out for a resolution.

The online manuals are rubbish

The online manuals are rubbish. These appear to be written by an AI motor engineer, one that has never picked up a spanner, never had a cup of tea at 10.30 while knee deep in tools and rags and doesn't know how the back of the hand feels after scraping on tyraps and pipe clips.
The photos seem to be of a random nature - good luck if you find one that matches the car you ordered the manual for, and the electrical diagrams are next to no good, if they load at all.
Waste of £30. Bring back the books.

Disappointed that the photos are in…

Disappointed that the photos are in BLACK AND WHITE! What decade are we in? Who uses black and white photos for anything these days? And especially in an instruction manual! Disappointed given the cost of this manual.

Digital Manual Basically a Scam

Bought digital manual that said it was for my vehicle. Turns out, the manual has nothing specific to my vehicle at all and doesn't even give good advice on the basics of car maintenance (which I already know!). Also, the manual appears to be only accessible online! Absolutely useless product.

On top of this, there is no obvious way to get a refund and the areas on the website I could find at the time of purchase said to send an email to customer support. I did this, twice, and nothing has come of it. Not a single reply. Then, all I get is bombarded with automated emails asking me to review the product. So I'm reviewing it here because it's terrible.

Incredibly disappointed as I own a physical manual for another car and it is perfect but this has put me off the brand for life if they intend to continue down the digital route in this manner.

I bought Mitsubishi Lancer Mk VIII Galant Fortis (CX, CY) 2007 to 2017 Haynes Online Diagnostics & Service Guide for 30 pounds and except for the specifications and some technical drawings, everything else is general information you can easily get from yt.

Don't waste your money!

Purchased the online manual for the Jaguar FType, what a waste of money. Looked through it in the first hour after purchase and requested a refund but no replay from Haynes customer service. The manual is full of generic content and explains items that are in a owner manual. I purchased to support me through supercharger removal and service but totally inappropriate. VERY DISAPPOINTED.( With customer service as much as the manual)

Online Car Maual

The online manual is completely different from the printed manuals. Details are hard to find and the level of tips and instructions is sadly inadequate. With a printed manual I have maintained my cars for years. With an online manual this would be impossible for the DIY mechanic/owner.

Be aware that the online manuals are not fit for purpose

Be aware that the online manuals are NOT anything like the original 'strip down' Haynes books. Many areas are not covered, and what is covered is sketchy and probably inaccurate.
For regular service jobs, generic instructions are included, along with photographs of vehicles that bear no relation to your vehicle eg. we have a Citroen C3 Picasso - the photographs which 'help' with the oil filter change were taken from a random Renault vehicle. Absolutely not fit for purpose. Have requested a refund.

Absolutely terrible I paid £30 for this…

Absolutely terrible I paid £30 for this manual so I could locate and replace a clutch pipe only to find out this isn't listed in the book like the old original ones and further more I couldn't even use it to bleed the clutch system as they used a vague engine not even a vauxhall van to tell me how to bleed the clutch which was useless again I couldn't locate the bleed valve and despite being for a vauxhall van was no information at all that helped me achieve this. I actually ended up doing that job via Google. I then filed a complaint over a week ago and asked for a refund and I've not even had a reply. I would absolutely avoid this company and don't buy the book it's an absolute scam it's nothing like the original books which I have for old vehicles that have detailed information these new ones are a joke

Poor customer service

I was very disappointed. I ordered two different manuals but only one arrived. I tried on three occasions to contact Haynes customer service (there is no telephone number you can call) but no one has responded to my messages. I have now raised a dispute with my bank to get my money back. I won’t by online from Haynes again.

Only buy from Haynes if you have money to throw away.

My manual arrived but is missing huge amounts of information. I've used Haynes and Chilton manuals for over 50 years, and this is the first one that doesn't have electrical information actually in the manual. They say you can access that missing information online, but nothing online works. It took me forever to actually get to talk to someone there and she let me into their system one time but I can't access it myself. The digital companion code in the manual is invalid according to the website, and many of the buttons onscreen don't work, like "contact us", "customer service", and so on. Totally frustrating. It seems they're very happy to take your money, and you're on your own after that, paying for information they refuse access to. Bottom line? Don't buy ANYTHING from Haynes North America.

Haynes no more.

I used to have a 1992 Toyota Corolla in my teens. I loved working on it with the help of a Haynes manual. Ended up losing the manual and buying it, again! That goes to show how helpful it was. It covered every detail i could possibly need to know (as a true DIY manual should).

I recently purchased an online manual for my 2012 Audi A3 (8P) 1.8TFSi. I was so sure about the purchase too (even spent money i shouldn't have spent & ignored the reviews!) because i knew what i was getting. I knew what the "Haynes" name stood for.

After my purchase i quickly browsed through the information and i was absolutely flabbergasted at the lack of detail component locations, video tutorials (which weren't even for my specific vehicle) and much more!

I logged in today to attempt taking screen shots to share more information in a review but, of course the manual was no longer available on my profile, and in fact my type of vehicle cannot even be found when searching!

I don't even feel like reaching out for a refund at this point, especially after eventually reading the reviews. I understand that all online Haynes manuals per vehicle might not have the same level of detail etcetera. But, they SHOULD!

Finally got a refund from Haynes

Finally got a refund from Haynes. This was after I had mentioned getting my bank involved as the purchase was on a credit card. The first reply I got was in French! Unfortunately, the refund does not change my opinion of Haynes customer service.
