Overchage, hidden extras, vans not overtight, not committed to the customer
Pretty horrid experience of this crew who came to move us. Definately not the lowest quote and then a constant badgering about money throughout the day. I booked 5 people and a 7.5t and a 3.5t for the day - £1500.
When they arrived the first question was - can I pay £500 in cash. Next 'we're doing some wrapping', that's an extra £150 (surely I paid for 5 people whether they wrap or load) and then at the day, the moment we went past 5pm - an extra £39 per person for another hour of overtime (which only took 30 mins). Lasly they charged my a ULEZ charge - surely this was known and should have been included. Total £380 of unexpected and unreasonable charges.
They didn't manage to compete the job because 'we're overweight' (which they weren't) and then, because 'we need to go home at 5pm'. Basically, they didn't want to complete the job and left me in the lurch with half my possesions in expensive storage units in London.
Additionally, they're van's were old and leeked - our furnature arrived wet.

Unhelpful movers
We booked Helpful Movers again after a successful move with them a year earlier. Unfortunately, the second time was a terrible experience: crew (consisting of two different groups) hated each other; progress in house that was being packed up was too slow; because they ran out of time the head office extracted 500 extra pounds mid-move saying they wouldn't unload otherwise. Had to beg for at least one bed to be built up again in the new house (packing and rebuilding service was included). Our tools have been missing since the move, too. Communication afterwards trying to address all that went wrong was frustrating and unsuccessful. Gutted it was such a negative experience second time round.
Removal at short notice from and to large house
This company moved us from a large 3 storey 4 bed house in Wokingham to a large 3 storey 3 bed house in Stroud. Good points - very quick, hard working, polite on the day. Polite administration. Difficulties - only 1 of the 6 workers spoke enough English to communicate clearly and some did not have enough to read where each clearly labelled item should go. This would not have been a problem had someone on the team taken responsibility for reading and giving instructions. The one person with fluent English was not given the role of communicating. The odd item was not very well handled e.g. placing 2 single mattresses direct on the van floor without any covering, but generally all was well done - e.g. furniture dismantled and assembled correctly.
Our move was challenging because we booked prior to exchange and then had to cancel 4 days before expected move, incurring a 50% charge (clearly outlined in the T&Cs). 2 hrs later we exchanged and there was no flexibility on rescinding any of our cancellation fee. However, with that short notice, Adi found 3 vans and 6 men, so that was very helpful.
Huge disappointment
I booked 2 men for 2 hours for moving 1 bedroom to an address that was 2 mins drive. I didn't have any large items apart from a couch which was dismantled already, boxes and a computer desk. From the beginning they complained that they were not going to be able to make it within 2 hours and that they didn't know the flats were located at the 3rd floor (although this was communicated in writing to the person that took the booking). The driver was spending more time pretending to arrange stuff in the van (for loading and then for unloading) than actually doing work. Both men were constantly asking for assistance with carrying from me and my friend who was helping. In the end, me and my friend ended up, most probably, doing more work than "helpful movers" to make sure that they won't overcharge. I did complain to the person who made the booking, who said that he's going to investigate, but never came back to me. Overall bad attitude, unprofessional (they were asking personal questions - like reason for moving, how much will the rent be etc.). They were carrying things half way, slow, lazy, ignoring instructions.
