Unable to change DNS records and no help at all from support

I transferred a .ie domain to these guys maybe a year or so ago, and all seemed fine. I just got a domain registration service, nothing more, since I have my own separate VPS.

The domain registration service clearly states 'custom DNS' as part of that service, so I imagined that, if I ever had to change the IP to a new VPS, I would have very little problem doing so.

I'm not new to this sort of thing; I have four other domains with Porkbun.com that are easy to redirect via their control panel to whatever IP I choose.

So, having recently moved my VPS to a new IP, I logged into the control panel at cabhost.com, and there my troubles began...
Firstly, I was surprised to see that the CP showed no DNS records at all for my domain. This, even though my website was being served for more than a year prior. Clearly, the DNS records must have been inherited from the transferred-in domain, yet, for some reason, the control panel fails to show them.

I was able to add new DNS records, but they had no effect, presumably because old records were still in effect somewhere in the backend system.

Anyway, I had to intimate all this myself because 'support' simply denied all knowledge that there was anything wrong and resolutely refused to explain anything.

What they did try to tell me is that, because I have a separate VPS, I should set my DNS records there! Anyone who knows anything about Domain Registration vs VPS hosting will know what a load of rubbish that is.

They also tried to suggest that DNS management was not part of my service and that if I had VPS hosting with them, all would be fine.

Needless to say, I've initiated a domain transfer to what I hope will be a registrar that actually knows its business and am here writing this review to encourage others to absolutely avoid this company like the plague.

[UPDATE]
I've just been informed that my domain is pointing to different nameservers than the HostCab ones. This is the reason I saw no DNS records, and any changes I made had no effect.
So, even though I transferred the domain, it was still pointing to the old nameservers. Amazingly, the old registrar didn't delete the records, so the site continued to serve for over a year.

Of course, support could have told me this in the first place, since I specifically asked them to take a look at the backend for any issues that would be preventing my new DNS records from propagating.
