I am an American expat and wanted to purchase property in Germany. There are numerous rules, regulations, and nuanced differences between funding a home purchase in the U.S. versus Europe. Luckily, I had the support of Sven Gehle and Michael Senker at Hypofriend. They both took the time to meticulously explain all the details associated with both obtaining a mortgage and purchasing a home in Germany.

Prior to meeting Sven and Michael, many banks and other broker refused to assist me--stating it was too difficult to get an expat a loan. This was a frustrating experience! However, Sven and Michael assured me that it was possible and I had a solid chance.

Throughout the entire process, all my questions were answered. They promptly answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. They proactively reached out to the banks on my behalf. They gave me great advice throughout. I received a great mortgage offer and a competitive rate and the mortgage was approved by the bank last week.

Thanks to Sven and Michael, I'll be moving into my own home in Germany in September!

Es gibt zahlreiche Regeln, Vorschriften und nuancierte Unterschiede zwischen der Finanzierung eines Hauskaufs in den USA und Europa. Zum Glück hatte ich bei Hypofriend die Unterstützung von Sven Gehle und Michael Senker. Beide nahmen sich die Zeit, alle Details im Zusammenhang mit der Aufnahme einer Hypothek und dem Kauf eines Eigenheims in Deutschland akribisch zu erläutern.

Bevor ich Sven und Michael traf, weigerten sich viele Banken und andere Makler, mir zu helfen – mit der Begründung, es sei zu schwierig, einem Expat einen Kredit zu besorgen. Das war eine frustrierende Erfahrung! Aber Sven und Michael haben mir versichert, dass es möglich ist und ich eine gute Chance habe.

Während des gesamten Prozesses wurden alle meine Fragen beantwortet. Sie beantworteten umgehend alle meine Fragen und gingen auf alle meine Bedenken ein. Our experience with Hypofriend has been great. We just successfully completed the process and bought our first property in Berlin. We are extremely grateful to Hypofriend team without which we couldn’t have done it!

We started some months ago with the idea of wanting to buy an apartment and we got in contact first with Patrick.
He guided us through the process explaining very detailed all steps (interest rate, timelines, ecc..) we had many video calls with him as everything was new to us and we had many questions.
At that time, we also tried to start a couple of buying processes which eventually we had to drop as the apartments were not really worth it or turned out to be already taken.

Then, in April unexpectedly despite our low expectations we found an interesting property and after that everything went very fast.

Initially, we were in parallel in contact with our bank but the consultation was not even comparable and we then decided to switch completely to Hypofriend.

Patrick immediately took us over again and helped us to collect all needed documentation for the selected bank. In that moment he had his vacation planned and assigned our case to his colleague, Denise. I have to admit that at the beginning I was a bit worried of changing the contact person in such situation, but I was wrong. I’ve never seen such professional handover and this change didn’t impact the quality of the service at all. We eventually completed the buying process with Denise.

The market in this specific moment was very unstable in terms of interest rate, which was changing almost on a daily basis, therefore it was crucial being fast.

What can I say here? Denise was extremely professional in every step of this process and I can tell we had almost a daily contacts for more than month.
She was patiently clarifying our doubts, supporting us getting in contact with the involved stakeholders and, furthermore, she helped us to go through a lot of our insecurities.

It’s been such a roller coaster and we couldn’t have wished a better partner than Hypofriend, Denise & Patrick!

This was my first time buying a property in Germany. My consultant, Denise, was really helpful and friendly in explaining the process/requirements, answering my questions and concerns and submitting the mortgage proposal to the credit institute. Overall I'm really satisfied with the service provided.

I intended to use Hypofriend only for a home loan, but I liked them so much that I also used their services for life insurance as well as a credit loan.
I was initially supported by Janik Hohenhaus. Super quick, very helpful and helped me figure out ways to stretch my budget, which is very important in Munich ;-). As Janik went on vacation, my Hypofriend contact was then Christopher Reinhardt. I was initially not so happy with this change, but Christopher proved me wrong. He pulled out valuation reports in a jiffy for properties I was serious about buying, which gave me comfort that I was paying a reasonable price. He walked me through the bank loan options, and stood by us like a rock even when we had challenges in getting a loan approval. He also got us a credit loan on competitive terms. He was always there to support and was someone whom I and my wife could always rely on. We could not have made this through without him.
Last but not the least, we had Jan Bandke who helped us figure out the right Life Insurance policies to cover any possible risks on loan repayment. I got a good deal, as well as a simplified process to execute the transaction.
Overall, I would highly recommend Hypofriend to anyone in Germany. An absolute must for English speakers to navigate through the language challenges with banks in Germany.
