A lot of issues with wrong tyres
We received car with very old studded tyres even if the booking started from April the 24th (They are illegal from April the 1th).
This caused a very costly expense for fixing punctures (at a certain point we had them at all the 4 wheels at the same time). The final price for these repairs exceeded rental price.
Moreover, rental company said that tyres were excluded from insurances and refused any refund for this issue. In addition, when presented with such a problem, the desk officer was quite rude.

We would like to clarify that in Iceland, rental vehicles are legally permitted to remain on studded winter tyres beyond April 1st if weather conditions require it. Winter conditions, including snow and ice, are still very common in late April, and for safety reasons, many rental vehicles continue to operate with winter tyres during this period.
Regarding tyre coverage, as stated in our terms and conditions and explained at pickup, tyres are excluded from standard insurance coverage. This policy is consistent across most rental companies in Iceland. That said, we regret if this was not clearly understood and if the interaction at the desk did not meet our service standards — this is not the experience we aim to provide.

We booked a car through a broker who referred us to Ice Rental. Pickup from the airport was prompt, and the car was delivered promptly. There were no problems using the car. Returning the car was quick. The staff was helpful and professional.

NEVER RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY! They are CROOKS!
They charged us 350000 Isk (2400€) for ONE blown up door when we returned the car!!! and our full insurance was USELESS! The car wasn't worth more than 6000€....
If you have full insurance and you have a blown up door, just crash the car so you don't have to pay anything!!!
Also the staff was very cold and very rude with us!
We rented a Subaru car from them and they offered us an old car with more than 250.000Km on board, full of scratches, bends on the bodywork and poor maintained. Even the radio didn't worked...
When we returned the car, they claimed that we had a blown up door by the wind.
The car wasn't towed to them and the door could be locked without any issues!
It is cheaper to buy a second hand car and at the end of your trip, just to throw it in the ocean rather than renting a car from them.
If by mistake you have all 4 doors blown up by the wind, you're practically buying a new car for them. 4 doors x 2400€ = 9600€!!!
AVOID THEM AT ALL COST!!!

Avoid this company at all costs
Avoid this company at all costs! They “assumed” we had wind damage to the passenger side door and expected payment of over £2600 (420,000ISK) then and there with no proof at all. When asking how they came to this price, they said that this is what they “think” it would be. We asked if they can get a quote from a garage / mechanic and they were unable to do so. Simon in particular and Andrew were rude and arrogant. Surely this is not legal? This was also not written anywhere. People should not be expected to make payment just based on assumption, especially when it’s that much money. Please save yourself and do not use Ice rental 4x4 .

Fast and friendly service
The pick-up at the airport was clearly visible. Once arrived at the location, after a short drive, we took off with the car within 10 minutes.
The return was also effortless. Then we got brought back to the airfield. Everything was smooth and the people were friendly.

A very poor service
A very poor service. Took 50 minutes (after clearing all security, passport/customs) to be met. The car was terrible. The nearside wing mirror was completely held together by tape. The car had 249,000 km on the clock and the brakes felt very spongy. When we arrived at hotel we note offside rear lights not working at all and offside front light was full of condensation, so not great. The electrics kept flickering on and off, which was quite disconcerting. The car locking fob increasingly did not work. A terrible service and car that was probably not road worthy and possibly dangerous. We were on such a short break (and two hours drive from hotel) so did not have time to return car and had to just put up with it.

Good value and no issues
These guys are significantly cheaper than other car rental companies so you should not be surprised (as some people seem to be) that you get an older car with mileage and a few marks on it when compared to other companies.
When picking up the car, all the existing marks were on the rental agreement and we were told to walk round it and take pictures as evidence upon the return.
I had arranged my own insurance so there was no hard sell to take theirs.
The car itself (a 2023 year Suzuki with 160,000km) was clean, reliable, a good spec - automatic, climate and cruise - and gave us no problems during the rental period.
Upon return it was inspected, damage compared against existing then we were free to go. No issues there either.
Overall I would use them again. If you want the latest, low mileage car then feel free to pay more elsewhere. If you want 'transport' then these guys tick that box.

Good rental company
The booking process was really easy. Nice quick fuss free shuttle from airport to the office and the same back after returning the car. Have no complaints about the service. My only issue which wasn’t really an issue was the car we got wasn’t the one we had chose when booking. The car we got was a bit battered and old with back lights hanging off….the guy who dealt with us assured me the car was a good runner and strong, felt a little fobbed off but after driving the car for the 5 days in Iceland it did actually do the job ok and was a good car. Would book with them again
