About Incogni

Written by the company

Incogni, a tool that helps prevent your personal information from being stored and sold by data brokers.

Upon the customers’ request, the tool identifies and communicates with dozens of data broker companies, so that the person’s details can be deleted from their databases.

Leading names in the data brokerage industry currently own data on hundreds of millions of consumers, some boasting up to 1500 data points per consumer.

With the introduction of GDPR and CCPA, all these companies are subject to giving or deleting information they hold on the person if they receive a formal request.

However, contacting each firm could take ages due to the excessive response frameworks companies have crafted and perfected.

Surfshark’s team of researchers contacted 36 data broker companies on their own to show how difficult this process can be. To get a final response took a little over 6 days from our first letter with each new data broker and more than 20 days with each established one.

Furthermore, 63% of the large data brokers asked for additional personal data which is not necessary to complete the inquiry (outside of ID copy), asking for a bank statement or even e-signature and thus prolonging the procedure.

“Data privacy is becoming an increasingly alarming issue, yet many people are still unaware of the hidden market that data brokers operate in,” – points out Vytautas Kaziukonis, Chief Executive Officer of Surfshark.

“As the sensitivity and scope of data they possess widen, so does the need to be able to opt-out of it. However, based on recent studies, the actual process of taking back data is an extremely tedious procedure, which requires legal knowledge and lots of persistence.

“Incogni aims to help users opt-out of these practices more efficiently and exercise their legal right to privacy easily.”

The Incogni privacy tool is available for purchase at the official link: https://incogni.com.

Thank you for your feedback, and we appreciate you giving us a try. We understand your expectation for immediate results, and we want to clarify the realistic timeline involved.

Companies have legal timeframes to comply with removal requests, typically 30 days under GDPR and PIPEDA, or 45 days under CCPA. However, even after a data broker removes your information, the companies using that broker's database need time to update their mailing and call lists, which can take several additional weeks. This means you may not notice a reduction in spam until well beyond the initial compliance period.

It's also important to note that Incogni cannot reduce spam from services you've actively subscribed to or agreed to receive promotions from; our service focuses on removing your data from unauthorized data broker databases.

If you have questions about your specific account or would like support, please reach out to our team at support@incogni.com.

I was hoping to stop junk email

I paid a year in advance thinking if nothing else it might stop some of the spam emails. However it did not. Emails went from 10 to 15 a day to 15 to 25. Also in the 44 years we have been with our bank we never had a problem and in the last two months we had two of checking accounts and one credit card attacked with fraud. I'm glad the bank caught it immediately so we didn't lose money. It's almost like our information was spread all over the internet since I signed up. I can't recommend incogni.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We want to clarify that Incogni does not sell, share, or spread your personal information. Our service works to remove your data from data broker databases and opt you out of data sales. We don't add your information to the internet; rather, we work to reduce its exposure on platforms where it may have already been listed.

The increase in spam and fraud attempts you experienced may relate to data that was already circulating before signing up with us, as data brokers collect information from various public and private sources over many years.

We'd like the opportunity to investigate your account further. Please reach out to our support team at support@incogni.com. Our team will review what additional steps we can take to help.

Worthwhile

It's a good price. I am very quickly to add my info on websites years ago now its Instagram adverts that encourages me to enter my details. Either way my info is out and companies buy this info so now im worried about the info I have provided and this gives me some reassurance that some of it will be removed.

Within 24 hours my phone stopped with the spam calls. They have started up again but not like before. I love Incogni and got it off of Kim Komando's site and trust her explicitly. I am 82 years old and I have lost savings because of scammers so this is important to me. I no longer have savings that amount to much at all now. So I have to be extra careful what I put on my laptop, desktop or phone. Thank you for a great product. I just wish it had downloaded on all 3 of my devices. My budget won't permit extra charges now. I am lucky I could come up with the one for my phone.

Misleading, Trickery No Response

I tried several times to log in to cancel subscription but could not log in. I never wanted this in the first place. I thought I was ordering my plates for my car. Instead I got signed up for this without realizing it until I see it on my credit card. I finally was able to "chat" on line but never get to talk to a person. I feel scammed as they will not refund any money and or listen to my plea. They info comes up when ordering plates through DMV. I thought DMV was just using a new system. What a bust! Still not sure what they are even supposed to do on my behalf.

Very pleased with the extra security

As I retire I’ve been having a bit of a review of how I ‘do’ online. I have a password manager. I also decided to give my online footprint a bit of a tidy. Incogni (I was already aware of them) seemed to be a good choice. I’ve been happy with my investment. The reports are reassuring and it feels like I’m getting less random stuff directed at me (I don’t have statistics so I can’t be more definitive). Incogni is not cheap, so I’ll have to give a renewal serious thought, but I’m very happy with my first subscription.

Scam, unless you're okay with it

Scam, scam, scam. If you are using this service to remove your information off of websites it is better to go through the grueling process yourself. They do not guarantee the removal of information and the government approved time of removal is longer than the 30 day refund policy.

The services support team when questioned did not provide any help related to questions about the refund policy being increased as they are trying to trap your money and not allow your refund

We're sorry to hear you feel this way. Incogni works by submitting removal requests to data brokers and following up over time, but because response times depend on each broker and applicable law, we cannot guarantee that every removal will be completed within 30 days. Our refund policy is separate from those external timelines, and we aim to be transparent about that.

Our target is never to trap our customers, and our support team honors the 30-day money-back guarantee in alignment with our Terms of Service. Please feel free to reach out to us at support@incogni.com
with your account details if you need further clarification, and our team will assist you with any refund concerns you may have.
